People here commenting obviously don't understand what this pedal is supposed to do. For professional studio use, I could see this being extremely useful. Especially that DB pad cut and frequency shelving. Anyone who has ever recorded in a professional setting knows how vastly different a recorded guitar sounds with and without quality preamps and/or compression. It's the difference between sounding lifeless and bland to huge and omnipresent in a mix. I wouldn't need one personally, but it's definitely more than just a "boost" pedal.

Exactly, remember the Les Paul low impedance guitar was so Les could go directly to the mix console and take advantage of the superior comps, EQ ,and preamp. That there was no equivalent for guitar players at the time.

Yea I can't stand everyone calling it a "boost" lol, its API, not electroharmonix lol

Driving the overdrive has a API like preamp direct sound in a way. It’s weird I see people buying $200-$300 OD pedals all the time. But I never see this or the compressor come up. Most of the nice ones I see people use are $200,250 for either.
I record with API512C and a Great River. I prefer the API of doing DI/IR cab stuff with my amp set in the middle, going XLR and phantom power. I’ve been curious about this, because in my recordings, there’s always some API tone from the preamps I use. But of course I’m not mic live with them. Seems like you could get a bit of that color. JHS has the Neve based color box…so I mean this is kind of an API equivalent with some extras.
I certainly wouldn’t use it as a clean boost…that seems a waste unless some recording signal chain EQ. But on a board seems just a tad tough of OD where I’d put a Klon…it could be cool. I wish GC and more stores had them to demo. It’s kind of a blind buy, but I would if it’s good! And I don’t think the price is too much more than most high profile Klones..Like a Tumnus Deluxe. Plus with a nice amp like a Tone King of vintage Fender tube amp..this thing could be killer. But too bad they demo on that Tonemaster…not a fan, but I get the idea of not dealing with tube amps. They are great, but can be a lot of troubleshooting and upkeep sometimes. Especially if not built well or cheaply Mass produced…cough cough Fender.

There’s also the Hudson broadcast which sounds better than that jhs colourbox (to my ears) it is modelled on the old RCA preamps. I find it interesting it’s a U.K company (hudson) recreating an American desk whereas JHS an American company is recreating a U.K desk (neve)!!!

Can recommend the Hudson broadcast for another direct to desk sound, prefer it over the JHS colourbox 👍

By "high quality buffer" what are you talking about? Almost nobody shares those specs.

    • @conservativestrawman9837

I am no expert but I take that to mean its shielded or grounded properly so you don't get that horrible *pop* when you switch tones on the pedal

From what i understand a buffer helps your guitar signal stay strong going through your chain

      @denmar355 2 роки тому

So many of our pedals these days have good buffers that it isn’t like we’re short on buffers. Basically, a buffer that we already have and a 7-10 band eq pedal for a LOT less money is effective in a live mix.

Hey Mitch, good thing Sweetwater doesn't know you'd work for just the access to all that amazing gear!
(Oh wait. Oops, sorry about that.)

Looking at the comments I can see why so much trash gets manufactured now. The same people complaining that this pedal doesn't do enough are the guys complaining that tube amps dont have master volumes to take them down to bedroom levels, they complain that tube amp designs don't have 50 band eq for the tone stack, and they insist that tube amps have built in digital effects.
Modern manufacturing is great, but a lot of the stuff that gets made by the big companies sucks, because they are having to listen to the bedroom / prosumer crowd that doesn't know decent gear when it slaps them in the face

Listening on Genelec studio monitors and the difference is so minuscule. Not worth it for me. Although I certainly like the knobs.

I dont think this guy ever really drives anything he demos that hard, I feel like he is a bad reference, if you can't drive an API pre hard, I'd argue it isn't an API. Alas, I need my hands on this to really know. Not everyone just want "a little crunch" anymore. Lol

That's a lot of $$ for a boost, the tone control I don't need. I don't doubt it's quality parts, just don't need them in this config. JMHO... --gary
