I haven't tried it with an insert cable so can't comment. If the thought is to get API on a budget for the studio, I understand... however, that is not the designed use for this product. Nice sounding pedal, but when are these builders gonna figure out that pedalboard real estate is precious, and stop putting the power and jacks on the sides of the pedal! I will not even give this pedal a chance because of this. Wake up!!
