Hello! This is a good video and anime of course, but there’s this anime called ‘cooking in another world with my absurd skills(?)’ or something along the lines, it’s very nice a wholesome and I thought you might like to watch it and review it :D! There’s actually a full video of the Japanese dub on you tube and it’s still up! Though it’s all of the episodes so it’s 4hrs+.. 😅
So your saying I could do a one time Patreon assist and get a dedicated video like this? Now that seems more doable for me. As to what series or part or whatever no clue currently... but I will think on it. Not sure what the amount would be for a full show to be reasonable for you but I have 2 or 3 older series from early 2000's I would love to see vids for; to choose from. one around 150-200 episodes and the other around 109 episodes. But certainly I think that might be doable. Of course it would be for the versions I like best... Anyhow Theres hope yet I can help. Its monthly payment I cannot afford as my money does not stretch that good. As to which ones I am considering... some Yugioh one but not series one. Zatch Bell despite its last season or 2 being only Japanese and only one version being truly findable. MAR because Ginta is super fun to follow and its back half is so WTF. Melody of Oblivion if I can only afford a shorter series of 26ish episodes and once you watch it it never leaves your mind. Lastly Blue Gender because you do likes for so few Horror anime and its also short. No option is the best thing out there but all of it is stuff I want to generate awareness for in modern anime watchers. As to that note Zatch Bell I want people to watch the most; its charm is purely crazy and unique. A battle shonen with Shojou elements and humor that is out there on the fringes. But a few emotional scenes that hit like freight trains.
We stan a poison addicted alcaholic Sherlock Homes and her handsome over-qualified simp. But seriously, the balance between comedy, drama and suspense in this anime is MASTERFUL.
Yeah, the "oh since she knows how to deal with poison she is happy to be able to taste the food" idea When she is just excited with the possibility of tasting some poison, since she can't do it by her own choice lol The food could be mid or trash, as long as there's poison she'll be happy, lol
You realize Sherlock regularly went on benders to see how different substances changed the thought process? I'm pretty sure he actively started testing poisons after the case with the snake. There are multiple times he comments on morbidity and lethal doses from my memory. Maomao is a Chinese girl Sherlock, without the money.
Well, frankly speaking, absolutely everything here is masterful. Sure, there's obviously quite a great source material ( which is clearly on my list from quite some time, I need to jump off the cliff soon ) but this anime is a true lesson ( there have been quite a few in recent years that put on their whole insane personal level of work and dedication... I see you, Bocchi the Rock ). Color pallet, use of light and darkness, animation fluidity, drawing quality, lack of laziness, music and sound quality and accurate usage, etc.. Everything is great, that's a master piece.
By far one of the best things about the entirety of S1 (and beyond, really, having caught up on the EN release of the LNs) is Gyokuyou being endlessly entertained by the soap opera that is Maomao's and Jinshi's developing (or lack thereof) relationship - and how outright upset and unforgiving she became when he failed to save her from being laid off. Gyokuyou has so few people around her that she trusts (why she has so few ladies-in-waiting) that it's not just her entertainment that she's lost, but she's also lost a truly dependable and trustworthy servant - one that's responsible for saving her daughter's life.
@@acedemon2939 mostly from how it's treated in the show and what I read about it surrounding the anime and the manga. It's an obvious and very viable sign of affection signaling to everyone around maomao Jinshi is saying "I LIKE THIS WOMAN BACK OFF!"
Knowing where things are going having already watched, honestly rewatched multiple times, it does give me a chuckle when Anime Wins mentions something and me going "oh the foreshadowing without even meaning to"
What I really like about Maomao's deduction skills is that she's able to utilize every detail she had gathered and determine which is the best logical explanation. It's one thing to have all these knowledge and completely another to have the wisdom to put two and two together.... with the exception of Jinshi's true identity of course lol. It's obvsly been bothering her but she's wilfully, or unconsciously, choosing to ignore the facts about that part of Jinshi's life and honesty, who can blame her.
With Jinshi it’s less her being dense and more willful ignorance since openly acknowledging who he is completely changes their relationship and makes her situation so much more complicated than she’s comfortable with. She didn’t admit that she was the one who sent the warning in the first episode until she was backed into a corner since getting involved with Gyokuyou would mean having to pay attention to and weave through Rear Palace politics (also she thought she’d be punished for some reason). The mental gymnastics she has to do to continue pretending that Jinshi is just a rear palace eunuch gets rather intense.
Some extra information relevant to the series: The apprentice girl at the brothel, where Maomao saves a courtesan and her customer, tried to kill that man because he was a past client of her older sister. He offered to buy her out of the brothel only to break his promise, and her heart. Shortly afterwords the apprentice found that she no longer had an older sister. The animé only tells you that the older sister’s heart was broken, and omits the fact that she is no longer alive. Honey is considered dangerous to infants due to the fact that most honey contains botulinum bacteria. This bacteria produces toxic substances that the weak gut of a baby cannot break down. Not even pasteurized honey is safe since it will contain spores that will linger even if the bacteria is killed. This society is not advanced enough for them to know about bacteria, causing Maomao to misidentify the cause as being due to pollen from poisonous flowers. Fengming wasn’t captured and executed in the light novel. She was already dead when the guards burst into her room to arrest her. Ah Duo is a kind and caring woman who has the misfortune of being surrounded by people who will do awful things on her behalf and get themselves killed even though she never asked them to and would never want them to do those things to begin with. Maomao and Jinshi meeting at that party was no coincidence, Gaoshun orchestrated it after determining that Jinshi wasn’t going to cheer up otherwise. Loumen (Maomao’s adoptive father) is described as being “grandmotherly” in the light novel. The animé has managed to capture that vibe perfectly without ever needing to say it out loud. Maomao obviously inherited her “happy dance” and a fair few other odd mannerisms directly from the madame of the Verdegris House. Her outburst in episode 4 after discovering that Lihua’s attendant was still applying the toxic face powder was basically Maomao channeling the madame.
The botulism thing is more likely - but honey can technically convey poisons from plants as well. As the anime says, it won’t really affect adults, but could build up in a small baby. It’s one of the reasons that ‘psychedelic honey’ exists, or even blue honey from bees eating M&M food dye
My spouse has a lot of knowledge of flowering plants and is also blown away by the detail and beauty of their depictions in this anime. All the detail work on everything is so stunning. Also, a little late to mention, but during one of your wins for the first quarter, my jaw dropped when I realized that in the picture was an offhand reference to a huge part of the overall plot. The weaving of information is so seamless. Binge watch upcoming.
I'll say it again. A good anime is one that is worth rewatching. A great anime is one that gives even more when you see it again. And thank you Anime Wins, for all your insightful reviews.
Hurrah! The third appearance of Lihaku (he was the guy Jinshi was sparring against way back when), and it really highlights just how much depth of character everyone in this story has! Our first notable notice of him was the Garden Party where he was this goofy, shy, awkward guy trying to maybe get together with a pretty servant, and now he's this arrogant, confident, high-ranking soldier who's pissed that a lowly servant dares to interpret his pin as any kind of invitation. That 10 seconds of grumbling repaints the earlier episode as him being NICE to the servants (that are likely largely ignored at these kinds of events) because he was feeling good at that feel-good event and wanted to gift that kind of fleeting joy to the other lessers! It really shows how 3-dimensional he really is, and he's just a side-character used to push the plot forward. None of the characters are mere caricatures. Care was given to write and develop EVERYONE realistically, and that depth is even used directly in the plot at times!
um - I don't believe he's the person Jinshi was sparring with - I believe that's one of Gaoshen (sp?) sons Besen? Bt I agree - he gets some lovely character growth through out all the episodes with more to come :)

One thing about Maomao to add: I know she seems smart but in reality if You remember what time she is living in, she is a freaking Sherlock Holmes level genius! Even educated people in these times were kinda silly compared to her. Maomao proves all that extreme feminist shit about audience hating female leads is false: there are a lot of amazing, inspiring female leads in all of media, we just hate when character writing is done by a pre schooler with no talent ;/
I agree with your statement…but ancient people weren’t that stupid. One of the greatest detectives in real life was a man in medieval China. I can’t remember his name, but one of the cases he solved was that a woman had murdered her husband who she claimed died in a fire in their house. The man found that there was no soot inside the corpses mouth and conducted an experiment based off it. He placed a dead big and a live pig inside a burning shed and let it die from smoke inhalation. The pig that was alive had soot in its mouth from inhaling the smoke, while the dead pig had nothing. He managed to prove that the woman’s husband had already been dead when the house caught on fire and she was convicted of his murder. Ancient people may have misunderstood a lot of things, but they weren’t idiots

And since “Maomao” literally translates to “Cat Cat”, Gaoshun calling her “Xiamao” can be interpreted as him calling her “Small Cat” or “Kitten”, which is such an odd choice in nickname since relationship-wise they should be more business-like.
I can not wait for the final two quarters to be out to watch this with my mom who loved watching the dub of this anime. Makes me wonder how many of the wins she will agree with. ^_^
25:00 Manga reader here with SPOILERS The reason Jinshi cried is because the concubine is 99%confirmed to be his mother. Long story short she exchange the babies, just recently born, because she know the other baby will be treated better because it was the then emperor son. Jinshi is the now emperor son with the concubine, but because of a bet he is working like an eunuch when he isnt
If you haven't seen it, it should easily pop up on recommended normally, but I get what you're saying. It's just a bit of a pain to remember to link them all in the description basically and not many people do click from there, (going off analytics).
It's not a spoiler bc it's not related to the main plot and I'm not a LN reader I just share an information found on Wiki and own conclusion. There's a reason why the current Emperor isn't interrest in the young concubine alongside the age, it's bc of his dad behavior(already mention during the spring dinner) and bc of the Emperor grandmother mistreating her kid (current Emperor dad). The current Emperor's mom also did something. All that to say the current Emperor is a (not prefect) but isn't problematic and try his best to be good
Corpses are instinctively bad to be around. Whatever killed them is likely nearby, and able to target people. This is overcome by some form of repeated exposure or a severe miswiring in the brain. Also, tons of cultures believed that consuming corpses was a medicine. There are so few mummies because Europeans ate them all. I'm not even joking, look up grave wax. So maomao, living in a place and working with possible is used to death. The doctor, who works in the palace where death is more strict, a corpse is rarer and more likely to be someone you know. Plus wrong answers get you punished. It wasn't rare for people to have servants deliver news or perform tests that were risky so they couldn't be blamed
One thing I like about this show is how it actively shits on the loli trope and how the current emperor is into mature women but is still nice and respectful to the kid concubine despite not being attracted to her at all which certainly is not something that's expected of him as the emperor

Jinshi is the now emperor son with the concubine, but because of a bet he is working like an eunuch when he isnt
BEAUTIFUL
Yay for more Apothecary wins. I keep hoping on that physical release for this anime here in Europe
Bro, if you post a part 2, please post a link to part 1 in the description! I want to give you more views easier.
If you haven't seen it, it should easily pop up on recommended normally, but I get what you're saying. It's just a bit of a pain to remember to link them all in the description basically and not many people do click from there, (going off analytics).
great video, I'm unable to support the channel on patreon, buti can at least help the algorithm and recommend it to my friends
Maomao NCIS (Not-China Investigation Servant)
Peak!!
Murder? Manslaughter?
Myth? Mishap?
Meow-meow is on the case!!
(Neko Maomao is always welcome)
Thank you
It's not a spoiler bc it's not related to the main plot and I'm not a LN reader I just share an information found on Wiki and own conclusion.
There's a reason why the current Emperor isn't interrest in the young concubine alongside the age, it's bc of his dad behavior(already mention during the spring dinner) and bc of the Emperor grandmother mistreating her kid (current Emperor dad). The current Emperor's mom also did something.
All that to say the current Emperor is a (not prefect) but isn't problematic and try his best to be good
maomao's va also did tanya degurechaff
Commenting for the Algorithm God
Great
One thing I like about this show is how it actively shits on the loli trope and how the current emperor is into mature women but is still nice and respectful to the kid concubine despite not being attracted to her at all which certainly is not something that's expected of him as the emperor
everyone secretly agrees that the previous emperor was human trash for what he did, too.
