I'd love to go to Ireland, my ancestors left during the 1800's, 2 Irish families i trave in my ancestry, the Zirlott's, and the lily's/lilley's/liley's, 3 brothers went to 3 different port cities in the states and they were iliterate so their names was written for them at customs

Just gotta reach out. Maybe try the Mr Rogers approach :]
@Mighty_Atheismo maybe it'll cheer ye up to hear that they're not ' cosplaying' community. It really is like that here in Mayo. Every day. Everyone helps eachother out. I've lived in ireland for 3 years now- I don't see myself leaving.
I love that kinda vibe, too. Like, a place where you can go "hey, you two, come help me move my lathe" and they'd do it. One of the benefits (and detriments) of making a job in a niche field: you get less people overall, but they're more dedicated to the craft.
Looks like I'm taking a trip out there soon. I genuinely feel this overpowering want to go there and be put to work. Plus meeting Eoin, that'd be pretty cool too
I love that you pull the crowd into the work if they're standing ar9und long enough! That's heaps cool and I wish we had more interactive events filled with awesome people like yourself in South Australia!
I lived down the road on Gallows Hill for 5 years Used to drive by Bunratty every day on my way to work. Makes me homesick. But enjoy your videos. I did a bit of woodturning when I moved back to the states. My true hobby was rockhounding and fossil hunting. Woodturning made me nervous, actually. I appreciate you skill and enjoy how you bring the old tools back to life. Carry on 😂🎉
Honestly the fact that you put visitor's to work makes me want to visit more, I think it'd be fun. Though I may have to represent my home land more than my fellow Americans did and come in a Stetson...... I don't care if it'll make me look stupid or tacky in Ireland, stetson's are cool. Plus a little variety never hurt anybody
Its videos like these that make me really want to look further into the history of the irish side of my family and learn more about it. He makes ireland seem so wholesome , but also rich with history
Ireland is on my bucket list. I want to know where my ancestors were from but really don't know where to look Other then the last names Whelan and Ryan. Who married in the US and may not have even been from the same county in Ireland. And an idea that Kilkenny and my grandfather was named Kenneth might have been a connection. Wherever you are putting on demonstrations, looks like it might be just as helpful a clue. These look like great fun. My dad, who was from the Irish side of the family, my brothers and nephews all have projects like yours going all the time. We just make things it is in our DNA. I feel a kindred spirit in this channel.
After watching your videos a bunch lately i decided to fix a couple old tools i had laying around. The first one was an 18 inch handle for a small camp/pack hatchet, the second was a 22 inch pickaroon handle and the third was an 18 inch handle for a 3lb staking sledgehammer. I used to plsy around when i was younger rehanging my dads shake axe with scraps of wood off the jobsites but that was honestly just a kid playing. But im kind of proud of how good these three turned out theyve been banging around for a few years so i figure now they will make a nice little matching camp/fire set. Thank you for the inspiration to clean up and use them again instead of buying some new ones
Holy sweet fires of the forge! 🤯 I'd actually LOVE to visit a place as a tourist that puts me to work to help! And do some of the making. That'd be cool.
American here if i ever get the chance to visit your shop feel free to put me to work. I love learning the old fashion techniques of carpentry their so useful.
This looks so lovely! If I were in your country, I’d definitely check it out. Maybe someday! My family came from County Cork some generations back. I’ve always wanted to see it. 🤞
A Friendship between a Blacksmith and a Carpenter is High Tier
Yes. i Imagine them like:
Blacksmith: Hey, my handle’s broken. Can you make me another?
Carpenter: I need a new hammer.
"They were roommates and best friends"
A blacksmith and a carpenter is almost all you need to rebuild society. The last one is a gardener
Historically accurate probably
@@quinnzykirI need a story about this
Lol “these American lads where standing around for too long so I put them to work” is the most Irish thing I’ve ever heard and my mums from Ireland
I love being put to work.
The fact they were cos-playing as irish locals is even funnier 🤣

As an American I love doing work and helping people out it’s the American way lol
@@jaytheredpanda183 We would welcome you here in the north my friend (stay away from dublin and belfast and don't say the words Irish in the north, the protestants are under an illusion that the north is English, they really arent bright at all)
The American lads fell for the Irish dad rule. If you don’t look busy you’ll be busy
Im too Canadian for a place like that. It would take me 5 minutes before i started covering shifts.
That sh!t applies in Britain 🇬🇧 Ireland Scotland AND Wales. 😂 Don't dare stand still and NEVER say you're bored. They'll always make you regret it. ☠️🤦♀️🙅🤷♀️🤣
So true. You aren't idle for long. If you pout about it, you are invited to leave. Politely of course!
Rule of thumb here in the south (U.S) too!!
If work’s being done, and you ain’t helping… you will be soon 😂
True, old style Irish dads would tell you to dig a hole and fill it in gain, if they thought you had nothing else to do. lol
*sly irish grin* “Sure look lads I like yer style, come carry this lathe for me”
I read that with an Irish accent and feel like it sounded like nogla
Mark Twain situation.
😂 reading that with a Scottish accent made me laugh so hard
if an irish person came up and asked me to move a laythe with him i’d be quite persuaded
As an American we are easily persuaded by European accents lol
this is probably the most accurate recreation of medieval life:
" you've got hands and I need em, come help "
Nowadays (in the US at least) it’s “You have hands, but we don’t want them”
Love how all the crafters are helping each other out like a proper community.
Tfw when neighborliness has been reduced to a theme park attraction.... 😢
Sorry for being jaded. Happy friday yall
Actually give me that life.
Back then in those days everyone had to rely on other to survive.

That lathe was deceptively heavy, but always happy to lend a hand! Thanks for a good day!
need to do more work in a castle thar, boy-o
Lathes really are
The little "oh hey" from James while standing there like a fantasy NPC given a new outfit was unecessarily hilarious 🤣❤
Morrowind vibes lol
It sounds like he said, "Go ahead" not "Oh hey", but that's just what I hear ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pretty sure he just said "Well" which is pretty much a way to say hello on Ireland.
"Some some guys standing around, so I put 'em to work. " I was wondering how you got the lathe moved around
I love that kinda vibe, too. Like, a place where you can go "hey, you two, come help me move my lathe" and they'd do it.

Getting to help work is probably the highest honor you can give someone at a crafting event. God bless that little lad picking up rubbish.
"Had to test it" as you approach your mate's bum with a sharp fork, made me giggle
That wink from James did things to me
Same 😅
"here's me nearly chipping a tooth" 😂😮😂
"Stick around long enough and you'll be put to work"
Sounds like you're threətening us with a good time.

What a treat to toil amidst castle walls all day with your black Smith bro. Living the dream!
