I like to imagine the Warden is an "okay guys, let's make extra sure to be careful when mining today" kind of creature. I feel like he's more of an obstacle instead of something you fight regularly. "Oh no, it's a Warden! Do not engage! Run away!" He makes you feel vulnerable, no matter what. When you get full diamond or netherite, you're basically immortal. The Warden is a good challenge and reminder that we can die by something stronger than us if we get too cocky.

I am pretty sure it has a question mark because you aren't meant to quit the game after killing the Dragon. You can still run around, explore, and build, so it isn't really "the end", even if it is literally "The End"

my theory is that he isnt the protector of the portals or anything like that, but rather the literal warden of the spirits in his chest, holding them prisoner. his ribs are like bars keeping them in and its not as obvious in the real texture, but in the concept art the little glowy things in the wardens chest look like faces. additionally, if you look closely at when the warden takes damage, the glowing faces actually arent affected by the red damage color, implying that theyre seperate creatures. it is suspicious that the warden looks like an end portal though...

Well, Minecraft and Terreria both support each other, so I’d say that’s okay.
Yeah I thought that the way terraria puts hard mode into play is a good way that Minecraft could use
one thing you forgot to consider is that the deep dark is a biome, it isn't a full layer, but instead it spawns deep in certain areas, so you wouldn't have to worry about the warden when looking for diamonds

The warden is just the ends version of a golem, meaning that whatever built them built the end portal and were the real inhabitants of the old world-end
I have a theory, hear me out:
much time ago, warden lived like villagers: they were peaceful, lived in small houses and could see. But one day a war started beetwen the wardens and other underground enemies. Most wardens died. And those who survived lost the ability to see and were severly injured (the reason why his bones are exposed)
Now, when wardens hear an entity they have flashbacks about the war and enter a rage mode, killing whatever they can. And the cave noises are wardens searching for other wardens who survived

I would argue that the Ender dragon destroyed the End, as it once was a more beautiful world, and the warden is protecting the portal.
The reason I come to this conclusion is because Endermen like to steal blocks from the overworld, maybe hinting that they’re trying to rebuild their world but failing to do so.

I think that based on the end citys with end ships that have dragons on them, its quite the opposite. There were once many more players, who then invaded the end and killed most of the dragons befire getting killed by either the dragon you fight or just died out mysteriously. The Warden was placed there by the enderman or some other mystical force to serve as a guard to keep The Last Player (you) out.

The endermen's eyes were originally green in the early development stages before they were changed to magenta!
Edit: Also, endermen commonly are found in the *Warped* forest in the Nether. Notice that there's a lot of that blue color in the Warped Forest that is also seen in Pre-Ender Dragon end stuff. What if the Warped Forests are parts of the Nether corrupted by the End, much like how Sculk is to the Overworld.

i'd like to expand on this idea
instead of just "breaking the seal" and the skulk being released, the dragon, a more powerful entity than it, needs to be killed in order for the skulk to be released from the end. This would work awfully like terraria with "the ancient souls of light and dark" being released. and maybe it works exactly like that. A biome that will expand, grow and take over your entire world if you're not careful. Maybe there could be a new NPC in the end that you can find. One that will help you combat the skulk growths growth
"Free the End" finally makes sense
What if the green colour pallet is more Void related than End related? The skulk growths could be some sort of Void influence

the definition of warden is “a person responsible for the supervision of a particular place or thing or for ensuring that regulations associated with it are obeyed” so maybe this thing is like the guardian of the end portal and that’s why it has a similar design to the end portal frames

Of you have seen matpats theory on minecraft, the withers drove whoever created the end portals to the end, the warden is probably supposed to protect the portal from the wither. This make sence considering how much noise the wither makes.

The thing in it's chest looks like an end portal, but it also has faces on it. It's all coming togheter. So the end portals are being powered by blue energy (soul energy). And so is the Warden.

I think the warden was trying to guard the skulk but got corrupted, and the tiny bit that isn't corrupted is keeping itself there because if you look at it's chest, there is a cracked orb there

Here's my theory:
So, we have Strongholds, where the end portal is found. But the strongholds are also prisons, as we can see cells within. The director of a prison is called a warden. I'm thinking that the Warden was *the warden* of the stronghold(s), and was tasked with protecting the portals

Now with the new reveal, I think it's job is to kill everything that comes near skulk so the skulk catalysts will grow skulk from the xp. Plus, players will usually drop 7 levels by the time they get that far underground.
Potential lore:
Sarc is an adventurer and intruded on the wardens territory as it was only a child, sarc was attacked by the wardens mother, being black eyed for life. Scar then caged the wardens mother in a showcase exhibit and the warden vowed to get revenge
The deep dark is probably just a rare biome near Bedrock. There are normal caves and vines at y11 for diamonds but sometimes you find the deep dark like finding an underground Ravine or mineshaft. For the trade off, maybe Diamonds or other precious materials are found in the biome more frequently.
This is probably what Mojang will end up with, but I just love Sarc' version so much more :D

This is actually a neat idea. You think the Dragon is a great evil, but she's only protecting the world and you need to team up with her to stop or control the sculk infection. Alternatively, you find a way to hatch the Dragon Egg, raise that baby dragon, and stop the sculk without the problem that the original Ender Dragon is hostile or in this case, neutral.

After rewatching this 10 months later, we definitely know where the deep dark will be located as we're now aware of the increase in the world height but seeing as you stated such an occurrence as a possibility you definitely were not incorrect in that sense. As for the rest of the warden details, it's still very much so up for debate

My theory is that the warden is literally a Warden. I think that because when they showed it off in Minecraft live, the person went into a cell-like area. and if you want to keep the skulk soul theory, then the trapped souls are the prisoners that the skulk ate/corrupted.
Ah! So they're keeping the Skulk in check! But got corrupted?
And the souls it corrupted will soon erupt into the half-skulk half-mob abominations called the Wardens...to protect more of them and help them make it to their own dark, unfortunate rebirth.

The clips that the Devs released, we can see that the chest cavity is open. It also pulsates like a heartbeat. If you look closer, you can see what appears to be fearful faces inside the cavity, blue, glowing faces. The fact that the faces are where they are (heart) suggests to me that those faces are the souls of travellers or explorers that were killed by the Warden. The Warden takes the soul and uses it as energy. We can also see the name "Warden" means that he's locking something up (like a prison), and that something would be the souls of ones it had killed in the past and is now using as energy. Just a thought.
Interesting theory, reminds me of a theory where soul sand and soul soil is actually made of people who either just died in the Nether or were burnt into ashes by soul fire.
If this theory is accurate, hundreds of thousands of people were killed in the nether.
Another theory could be that the Nether is literal Hell, and those who die in the overworld with "sin" or a bad reputation, are turned into soul sand in Hell.
Jeez, minecraft is a twisted game, I love it.
If the Nether is a literal Hell, people have talked that the End, is the actual end, and canon, Steve never makes it make to the overworld after leaving the End, he instead ascends to a heaven like area that we could never see

The idea that the Warden is not keeping us in the Deep Dark but trying to keep us _out,_ that it's actually guarding something, is kind of terrifying. Much more scary when you realize how ridiculously powerful the Warden actually is, because if the mob that can two-shot you in full unenchanted Netherite gear is just a guard, imagine how dangerous whatever it's guarding is.
Or it could be super weak or fragile.

The vanilla Deep Dark reminds me of a mod that is equally as scary as Sarc's Video
I would like to see the warden break blocks that has been placed by a player. Imagine players running away and blocking the path with blocks, and after releasing a sigh of relief, they hear blocks being broken behind the wall they've created. This new mob will bring in new anxiety, and would be a really exciting mob to fight with.

As a speedrunner of the current version I’m exited to get some changes to the run, Minecraft is relatively easy compared to non randomly generated games. A lot of it is more luck than challenge (you still have to be good at the game compared to most people though). It would extend runs yes but the majority of runs end before you leave the neather so it would just extend the time of completed runs.
@@yourlocaltrashpanda7008 I’m exited for the potential changes and harder mobs. Minecraft feels too easy for me right now, and I think that expanding the mid and late game would be great. Maybe even buff the ender dragon, or maybe make it so that when you go to the end, you aren’t sent straight to the dragon, instead, you’re in the outer end islands, and have to collect things from end cities and such to get to the main end island. This would make the rewards from end cities feel less lackluster. Idk these are just some of my thoughts and are unlikely to be added.

One of the next 3 updates will be a sky update adding in a Sky Dimension separate from the End. There's just simply nothing to update anymore because we already have Caves and Cliffs. I know, End Update, but still.

There are still updates we need (More specifically end update, a food update and an update to all the structures that haven't been updated since their launch) but a new dimension is inevitable at this point and it's gonna happen in the next few years. They even hired the guy who made the aether mod

I suspect the idea of the End invading and spreading into other dimensions is an idea that already exists in the game, in the form of the Warped Forests in the Nether.

I just want to find diamonds, that's all, but what I discovered... I swore on Notch to never speak about it; the horror... the deep dark. I can't remember how I got there but I still hear the screams echoing in my head. I broke the rule of Minecraft, the one you should never do, I dug straight down. I'm not even sure how many blocks it was. Don't judge me! I had to, it was the only way. There were so many zombies. I needed to get away. When I came to everything was dark so I did the natural thing and placed a torch. That's when I heard them; the footsteps. The ground was made out of blocks I never saw before and I never want to see again. I took a step forward and a strange plant, I don't know what it actually was, but it moved, and then another one did. That's when the light went out.
"It's coming!"
I jumped back when I saw the man standing in front of me.
"The Warden is coming! He's coming. You have a sword; help me! We need to get out of here now..." The light fled again as the sound hit my ears. Sparks from my torch danced back to life as the man before me was pulled back into the darkness. All I heard where the screams as an ender pearl left my hand. I got out. Somehow, I got out. You may just say that this is a folktale or ghost story from an old spelunker but I swear to the Nether, the Warden is real and he's out there.

I like the idea of the end portal being the source of the skulk. It makes sense, too. After entering the end portal, you get the advancement "The End?", which implies that the player only thinks it's the end, and that there may be something to come after.
dude i love your ideas they are so creative especially the one where you awaken skulk after you activate the end portal reminds me of terraria where when you defeat the wall of flesh it changes the world
So in theory: The deep dark can continue grow into stone and grass and dirt right? Imagine if it gets to the surface, what a danger it could make, if it didn't have a limit, it could make a whole new "biome".
I like the idea of the ender dragon protecting the dimensions from the deep dark.
Mojang has an excellent chance here to give more lore and content, think about it, a bigger danger than the ender dragon, the corruption of the deep dark.

The ender dragon is a bad guy.
The skulk stuff can’t grow too far away from the skulk source blocks. Unless you sprinkle those everywhere throughout your world or there is something big we don’t know about, there’s no way it couldn’t spread far enough to reach the surface
Minecraft doesn't like to add things that can ruin the world without the control of the players which is why lighting is getting a copper rod to be counteracted by.

Another thing occurred to me. The “eye” of ender.
What does the warden lack?
Eyes, it can’t see. 🤔

But the eyes in an eye of ender are from endermen, so, i think, so the endermen took the eyes of the warden in exchange of strength and the eyes gave the endermen the ability to teleport.
Maybe poot the eyes back in and he will help you?

There should be vertical Chunks below y level 0 that only get loaded when the player gets deeper... The reason for why there are no vertical chunks, is that the entire way to the surface must be loaded to calculate the shadows and sunlight... If you were in a big cave underground and the top Chunks wouldn't be loaded, sunlight would get into the cave, so below level 0 there should not be sunlight at all, which would allow the game to load and unload vertical chunks without causing performance issues or light glitches... The top layer that still needs to calculate sunlight above level 0 could be rendered normally and might only load chunks below when the player reaches a certain y level near 0...

i really do love this video, especially a iron golem is in a warden costum, to be honest that makes the video even better and it makes me more comfortable and to question the people from the future is just amazing its like breaking 4th wall(my opinion).

I have a theory that the end is actually a void dimension. Skulk sounds like Shulk doesnt it? The skulk growth looks like end portal blocks. Then there is another end portal like block. Amythest geodes are magenta colour like shulkers and chorus fruits. All these features are found in the deepest darkest places where bedrock is near. Under bedrock is a void so that is where the end possibly could have seeped into the overworld.

I don’t really know about the last part with the amethyst, I think that’s a separate thing that will be found in multiple biomes underground (not just the deep dark)
