There are things that programmes of this genre can never really show you. You are joining one of the greatest and most exclusive 'clubs' in the world. Everyone is 'special forces' in that you quickly develop expertise or mastery of your chosen field. The speed with which you develop a 'love', if that's an appropriate word, of your oppos. The respect and admiration of your NCO's and Officers, because you know they have worn the shirt and eaten the pie. The utterly countless occasions on which you are completely helpless with laughter. Lastly, the family, the support, the help that is always available to you. Civvy street might pay you a bit more, but, frankly, it bears no comparison.

I really enjoyed the episodes. Brings back memories. I done 13 years in the Royal Signals left as a Sergeant. I’d go back in a heartbeat. Now I’m 64 it reminds me how time flies. Anyone reading this comment and thinking of joining just do it. Even if you are questioning yourself. Have a go it’s the best life with brilliant mates, challenges, laughs. Wish I could do it again.

Amazing stuff. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Extra kudos to the guy who made it over the rope wall despite being clearly scared. Great example of literally getting over personal barriers. Your encouragement there was great as well.

Agreed. I would tremble in scenarios like that. I remember an oppo giving support to me when we were very high up on a rope system. Later the same day, we had to go through a flooded culvert. I had no fear and he was terrified. I got him through.. You get close to guys in such situations.

Some of the guys were straight out of Catterick you said. I thought one of the criteria to joining was you had to be in the army for 18 months before applying? Have they done away with that now then??

3 weeks. Filmed in Jan, so first event to kick the year off. Most of the guys had a week in camp before then moving onto specialist weapons/PL cadres. Back in Brecon again for a similar amount of time.

    MILITARY FRONTAL ASSAULT TACTICS:
Guys, PLEASE read this tactical charging the enemy scenario. Background: In WW2 an American GI from Texas, I think, held of a single SS Regiment single handed with a Thompson machine gun and a tank mounted 50 cal. Killed confirmed 243 KIA SS guys and held the entire regiment down to allow his guys to escape. Won the Medal of Honor for that . He did the same stuff for the remaining WW2 and the Korean war. Many thought he had a death wish, but did almost all of it untouched. Here's what I'm getting to. Audie was about 5´9¨medium build. fast and with side to side halfback (AM Football) ability. He did frontal attacks all the time. As I am someone who loves most militaries, He is the technical prototype for full frontal attacks with minimal human cost because he was always shifting position while running like a bat out of hell TOWARDS the enemy. It was frightening , demoralizing. The enemy keeps their heads down, and even those who are shooting can´t get a bead because of the shifty fast movement , even with a machinegun. Sooo, veery instructive. He wasn't running into death, obviously. THE TACTICS ARE SUPERIOR TO A DUG IN POSITION. BUT WHY.... & more?? Requirements; Small, fast, agile, strong men who love to fight IN EVERY Capacity.. I would add a second improvement to Audie´s tactics I would ideally sneak into position 1-2 heavy machine guns above the area of attack so that they then provide additional suppressive fire and confidence to the men who haven´t enjoyed what the literal thrill of combat is yet, (Some people LOVE it. Audie Did). EG, it also provides on the job training once they understand this works. It actually is a life saver. not suicide. Audie proved it over and over in 2 wars until he was finally hit but it wasn´t life threatening, He resigned after that and was called into the movies, as himself. ha had always thought he was charmed in every way, as did other soldiers. A terrible onscreen presence. But a great guy. He drank like a fish. He was a hit at the pubs & bars. To bad for his liver. Sounds like the typical Brit, or Irish Sgt., Hmm? Blessings men.

Great videos/fond memories!. Well done to the DS as well as the guys on the cadre! Seeing the water bottles reminded me that many/many years ago I came across one or two Irish Rangers and they carried two water bottles in their 58 pattern webbing. I was told that they carried two so they could refill the first water bottle once it was empty! That must be true as I recall it was their WO2 who told me!

Irish Rangers don't exist in real life only in the minds of those from The R. Irish who can't let go and continue to use the term in an attempt to erase
