Windows 8 was my childhood. My old Toshiba Satellite C850-B990 came with Windows 8 Home Single Language and I remembered being a huge fan of the design. Even though it looks more of like a OS for tablets. When you are on the "Desktop" mode, you can do all of your desktop apps. I didn't even hate the start menu because of how beautiful it was. It was more colorful and less bland compared to say windows 10. I only upgraded to Windows 10 in mid 2020 when I could finally format my family's laptop but dang I took a while in windows 8.

Windows 10 to Windows 8/8.1 was almost what Windows 7 was to Windows Vista. The this is Windows 10 isn't much better OS and with Windows 11 failing people switched to "perhaps we judged you harshly, Windows 10". I personally never switched to Windows 8. I had too much good time with Windows 7 and had to reluctantly upgrade to Windows 10. When I actually used Windows 8, I couldn't really find words to describe how horrible it was. Now thanks to Linux and MacOS I can. Windows 8 UI couldn't work because of Windows legacy stuff. Like say we install some programs and they create a bunch of folders with with even sub-folders in them. It was okay during Win95/XP times, but by Windows 7 it was tedious at best. At least the UI was designed around it. Not so much with all those giant icons. What it should've been is simple program icon to execute programs from start menu, if you don't like clutter desktop with program icons. This is where GNOME or MacOS UI made it easy to manage and navigate even back when Windows 8 was still in active development. The experience of install Windows programs can recreated using WINE and you will have a mess of folders and icons to manage. Even today Windows 11 is using similar idea, but it's still limited by remnants of older Windows releases, specifically Windows 95. As for portable devices I tried using Windows 8 and 8.1 with few different tablet devices and almost all of them had the similar problems. My main problem was the UI. It was too small to manage by comfortably. Windows 8.1 was a little easier for having start button at least, but in general if device doesn't have large screen or attachable touchpad or mouse, you will have troubles navigating small menus and even smaller icons. One thing I should point out is, that I didn't use tablets long enough to see if there was settings to enhance the experience.
Not to mention, I recall when Windows 8 was new, my laptop would constantly suffer from drivers (mostly audio) just randomly breaking, forcing me to sometimes unplug and plug the headset in, or even having to restart the drivers for it to work again. Once I upgraded to Windows 10, the problem is vanished. So on top of the UI being clunky and annoying for mouse and keyboard, I didn't like how buggy some drivers felt with it
That's the OEM's fault for not releasing proper drivers. This was cause of 95% of crashes in Vista too, except a few bugs here and there which are totally expected after the release of any new, heavily reworked OS. My HP laptop, came with Windows 8 and had all the proper drivers and worked beautifully.
After growing up with Windows Xp, 8 was actually the first version and I quickly got used to it, I tend to use active corners on other systems nowadays and I probably learned it thanks to Charms bar, it took me a while to forget about it when I switched to Win7 after like 5 years of using 8/8.1

*Fun fact:* There is actually an earlier version of Microsoft Store named Windows Marketplace, which was released in 2004. It really didn't come with Windows itself unlike Microsoft Store, as you would access it via a web browser instead. But in terms of functionality, it pretty much did the same thing as Microsoft Store does nowadays (like downloading apps, utilities, games and stuff). It got fully discontinued around 2012, eventually evolving into Microsoft Store integrated in Windows 8.
I own Windows 8.1 and I don't regret it. It comes with a Retail key which works on most Windows versions. One of the reasons I'm still subscribed to surfshark is because of this gentleman. Another reason is because the VPN is great.
Despite the fact that many people do not like Windows 8. And I also repeated after them that it is bad. But when I tried to install it... Wow, I just loved this new interface. Even without the touch screen, I liked to control it. In general, the live tiles and interface of Windows 8, 8.1, fullscreen mode in Windows 10 are just my love. And I'm sorry that all this is not in Windows 11.
At that time, I upgraded my laptop from Windows 7 to the newly released Windows 8. Unfortunately, most of the drivers and software that worked well on Windows 7 crashed on Windows 8. It was a difficult period due to the lack of resources on forums and communities which I cannot find enough solutions to fix those drivers and softwares. However, Microsoft later enhanced Windows 8 and released Windows 8.1, which supported drivers and software from Windows 7. Sadly, by then, many users, including myself, were already dissatisfied with Windows 8 and had decided to revert to Windows 7. My opinion, Windows 8 and 8.1 were great, but those OS came out too fast. Microsoft made the similar mistake as Windows Vista.
What I did is purchase a real copy on Windows 8.1... Terribly expensive now as it's basically a collectors item. I used ImgBurn to rip the ISO, make a text file of the activation code and just sell it of while I use Rufus to format a USB to GPT/UEFI. That was my big problem with disc installations, DVDs are MBR by default negating the ability to access passed 2.2TB of storage capacity when I have a 4TB drive just waiting to be used. Not to mention my Sandisk Extreme V2 is also 4TB. I needed GPT on this explicitly for that purpose.
I did the exact same thing a year ago but instead of installing 8 I installed 8.1 and I was very surprised to see how smooth it is from what I remember.
It is possible to move between each Metro apps and the desktop by moving the cursor to the upper left corner, but I have never seen anyone using this for some reason...
I remember using windows 8 on my school computers(first tym using a computer) and my god I fell in love with computers from that day. I don't know man it just feels nostalgic.. This video unlocked so many good memories..
Just to clarify - I do think that Windows 8 during its release was insanely stupid in terms of navigation, but with "service pack" 8.1 they actually found the sweet spot between maintaining both good desktop and touchscreen experience. The main problem was that there was no apps for metro UI, so it became useless over time. My biggest dream back in the day was to use metro UI with only a controller (after all it was very similar to xbox UI) and to have a steam written for metro UI. This would be perfect solution when plugging laptop or desktop to TV. There was a lot of potential in that system and that's why I admire it so much.
I love Windows 8 series Operating System by Microsoft. People are ignorant who do not know how to use it. And give the excuse that it is a bad operating system.
Well, I actually have tried Windows 8 in 2021, on my Core 2 Duo Desktop with GeForce 210 GPU. Though, this machine is kinda potato but able to run Windows 8 just fine and maybe Smooth
Windows 8 and 10 are just like Windows Vista and 7. How yoy said in a previous video, "Windows Vista had to exist for Windows 7 to run.", and I'll say "Windows 8 had to exist si Windows 10 can run.".
In contrast to Windows 7, Windows 8 was soooo fast. But yes, the interface was kind of weird. Especially in the early days of Windows 8, it felt as if the desktop was its own app and no longer the main Windows screen. Luckily, that changed with Windows 8.1, like many other things, and it became an "okay" operating system. But I was happy when I finally had a normal interface again with Windows 10.
I love how this video was meant to throw loads of hate on windows 8 and most comments are positive. Windows 8 and 8.1 were the most attractive, fun and fast OS by Microsoft. People complaining about using it, just refused to spend 15 to 30 minutes consciously getting used to the new interface, that's all. I loved that MS era
It was smooth and i feel better than windows 7 but just some people didn't liked the change and same happened with the windows 11. People doesn't like change even if it's better.
I remember these days standing in Best Buy looking to buy a laptop today, seeing all of the new Windows 8 junk, I just laughed and walked away with a new Windows 7 pro laptop. I just refused to use windows 8 such a let down by Microsoft.
It took me about 5 minutes to get used to Windows 8.1 and it is still my favourite OS till date. If only it had a lock screen like Windows 10, the clipboard and the new file explorer and notepad from Windows 11, I would still use it today. Workarounds are not really great
When Windows 8 (and then 8.1) first came out, I ABSOLUTELY love the looks of it, and still to this day. I know it's a little bit janky in terms of performance, consistency, etc, but the Tiles concept was gorgeous. And the mobile Windows OS that came with Lumia at that time was so cool. Never daily driven Win 8 till this day tho, just trying out on my friends computer. But planning to install 8.1 on my secondary laptop.
When I got my first laptop and it was Windows 8. After setting all things up, when I opened Start Manu I couldn't figured out how to close start menu and restarted my pc. Fun memories with windows 8 LOL.
Being a computer technician for over 20 years. I assure you Windows 8.1 is one of the best OS Microsoft can offer till date. This is just a mass hysteria. Due to a random famous guy's lack of knowledge on how to use it, people were led to believe it was bad. Despite being a superior Operating system, Windows 8.1 is taking a beating. Software developers and hardware manufacturers are forcing us to abandon Windows 8.1, which is not fair. If software and OS updates are not halted, Windows 8.1 is sufficient for eternity, no need 10, 11 or 12 etc. at all. I can achieve 1 to 3 second start up or boot up to desktop only in 8.1. Tips: Just install Startisback to bring get back classic start menu.
Idk about everyone, but i really loved windows 8.1. I liked how wvwrything was like either you have windows 7 or you have a tablet. I still use a little bit of this system on my old pc, unactivated.
That interface was perfect for big touchscreens. I hope someone can copy the metro UI and adapt it to android. It would give android tablets another level that even iPadOS doesn't have.
I remember we installed this OS in my friend's computer and once it was done, we were just confused, we didn't know what the fuck we were looking at. It looked so different from Windows 7 and I don't even think we made it past the start menu with all the tiles. We instantly reinstalled Windows 7 back.
Hey surfshark! I know this video is 3 months old but you don't actually need a windows 8 tab to use windows on tablets just plug an android tab to windows via spacedesk (connect pc with tablet via USB cable) and use it as a windows tablet! I actually use windows 10 on my android tab and touch gestures actually work! And virtual keyboard of windows also pops up automatically!hope this helps and waiting for next video of windows 8 or 8.1!

If you used Windows 8.1 RT, you could access a start menu similar to what we have on Windows 10.
I had no idea windows 8 had a traditional desktop for 4 months when I first upgraded.
I like Windows 8.1 and Wii U.
I just like the idea of a fullscreen start menu that can fit a ton of pins
Windows 8 or later is telemetry than Windows 7 or earlier
@@SametKaratas-db1xu You can remove it
It is possible to move between each Metro apps and the desktop by moving the cursor to the upper left corner, but I have never seen anyone using this for some reason...
Reason being: it's not intuitive.
@@DaviCarneiro-f5x 😢
How are you supposed to figure that out when they only tell you about the charms bar??
@@washim-7867 When opening the Metro App, should have shown an explanation for this...
The "side bar" was actually called the "Charms bar"
Unpopular opinion: I fucking love this Windows, And he has a pretty cool animations makes your experience more enjoyable than another OSs!
I remember using windows 8 on my school computers(first tym using a computer)
and my god I fell in love with computers from that day.
I don't know man it just feels nostalgic..
This video unlocked so many good memories..
To be honest window 8 was revolutionary and yeah the task manager is the biggest improvement
tbh Windows 8.1 was my favorite Windows. Even if it were still supported, I'd use it even today.
I love windows 8 modern style apps and start menu style.
Im using a surface 3 and Ive been daily driving 8 for a month now. I personally think it's great
Windows 8 and 8.1 were amazing. People were too dumb to realise and use it properly
Well, I actually have tried Windows 8 in 2021, on my Core 2 Duo Desktop with GeForce 210 GPU. Though, this machine is kinda potato but able to run Windows 8 just fine and maybe Smooth
Windows 8 was very optimized for low end PC
Windows 8 and 10 are just like Windows Vista and 7. How yoy said in a previous video, "Windows Vista had to exist for Windows 7 to run.", and I'll say "Windows 8 had to exist si Windows 10 can run.".
Windows 8
"Running quiet a few days without anyone's b.s. malware."
My grandma had eindows 8.1 with classic start menu 🤯
yeah, they released another version of windows 8 thet had the normal start bar
8.1 was so good & i can run it on cheap pc while 11 on the other hand...
The Windows 8 To Go Creator you mentioned at 9:00 is only available on Enterprise version.
that color setup was honestly so thrilling I loved all the options... really wasn't a great OS but the design was definitely moving forward
Something like windows 8 would be PERFECT for pc handhelds
Nothing was beautiful than windows 8.1 i used for years but unfortunately left supporting
windows 8/.1 was so fast tho, people never understood that
I might consider reviving Windows 8 operating systems.
I was already on Linux at this point. Never used it.
This was fun to watch as someone who never used Windows 8. I stuck with Windows 7 until 10 was released
The thing is windows 8 is very smooth and fast, even on old hardware with HDD, while windows 10 slow down significantly
8.x did not deserve the hate
This, to me, was what Windows 10 could've been
Windows 10 with windows 8 optimization wouldve made 10 the best os oat
In contrast to Windows 7, Windows 8 was soooo fast. But yes, the interface was kind of weird. Especially in the early days of Windows 8, it felt as if the desktop was its own app and no longer the main Windows screen. Luckily, that changed with Windows 8.1, like many other things, and it became an "okay" operating system. But I was happy when I finally had a normal interface again with Windows 10.
My first laptop non touch screen with windows 8 and I loved it sooo much after moving from windows xp on my family computer
Windows 8 is great! After you install ClassicShell or Open Shell.
I'm an enthusiast user and I still use Windows 8.1 as my daily driver.
I daily drive 8 with classic shell & good antivirus. It's fast & my favourite windows experience.
It was smooth and i feel better than windows 7 but just some people didn't liked the change and same happened with the windows 11. People doesn't like change even if it's better.
Nah, I liked 8 and 8.1. They were alright. I'd choose em over 10 and 11 any given day.
I remember these days standing in Best Buy looking to buy a laptop today, seeing all of the new Windows 8 junk, I just laughed and walked away with a new Windows 7 pro laptop.
I just refused to use windows 8 such a let down by Microsoft.
an interface like Windows 8 with modern devices like all the handheld gaming pc's today would be awesome
My first laptop was on windows 8.1, and i kinda knew how to use it, and once you know its a perfect windows, i always will love it
I have windows 8.1 on my mini PC and my surface pro 3 still today.
When I got my first laptop and it was Windows 8. After setting all things up, when I opened Start Manu I couldn't figured out how to close start menu and restarted my pc. Fun memories with windows 8 LOL.

Phew, Thank god it’s not me this time
it looks like an mobile apps going port to PC system 😂
This is what's happening in windows 8 😅
If you don't know, windows 10 had a mode with an interface optimized for touchscreens, which was heavily inspired by windows 8.
In my opinion the ui of 8 was better than the 10, and would have been better if they kept the same design with few upgrades
Idk about everyone, but i really loved windows 8.1. I liked how wvwrything was like either you have windows 7 or you have a tablet. I still use a little bit of this system on my old pc, unactivated.
That broken bezel on the bottom left of the screen is so very distracting.
Most optimized windows ever IMO, also it ran better than windows 7 and uses way less memory and processor usage
Win8.1 is best, support old hardware, work smoothly on 4gb ram, work great on vm
your passion for your content is infectious, keep it up!
Windows 8 was the only version of Windows I completely skipped. It was never on any system I owned.
Bro I love windows 8 I had a old ass dell desktop like 10 years ago I loved that start menu bruh
I used windows 8.1 till 20th August 2023.due to lack of updates for browsers I upgraded to windows 10.
Fun Fact: Windows 8 was the operating system that was used on windows phones. my mom had one of the windows phones.
3:49 couldnt you press win+d?
Can’t believe my School still use Windows 8.1
Win 8 is ahead of its time
A Windows that looks like this would be better received today
Where did I get orginal windows 8.1 iso. Microsoft officially removed.
Anyone know?
I really love the windows 8 animations
I honestly thought that Windows ME was the most hated version of Windows. I remember it was an exiting version of Windows released in September of 2000.
Windows 8 is still my main OS
Mine too
Windows Vista,8.1 and 11 are the most beautiful oses
Design-wise it's my favourite Windows. The start menu might have annoyed people, but looks amazing. Same with the Windows Phones of the time. I still like it.
