@@berk3106Not really? Unless you're going with the most budget setup possible (a used Series S/Switch or a used office PC turned gaming build), most hobbies are gonna be much cheaper. Sports and outdoors activities? Basically free. Tabletops? Free to around $30 a game. Reading? Books are pretty cheap and there's the entire Gutenberg library out there for free. Movies? Old movies are like $5-10 on Amazon/YT. Even 3D printing can be considerably cheaper, and I speak from experience. All very valid concerns, but hard disagree on the rankings lol. IMO it should go... Price: Yes, the raw price-to-performance of a console easily beats that of a PC hardware-wise. But when you take into account mandatory subscriptions for multiplayer on console and frequent heavy discounts on PC (including Epic's weekly freebies!), PC takes the cake in the long run, even more so if you need to own a computer anyway for productivity or whatever else. And more so still considering repairability and upgradability!!! At worst... *Bearable* Building: Many people enjoy the part selection and building process, actually making this a benefit, and for the rest, prebuilts are readily available, as you mentioned. *Not a problem* Launchers: Definitely annoying, but doesn't meaningfully impact the ability to play the games you want. *Minor annoyance* Bad ports: I'll give you that this one, when it's bad, can be pretty bad. A couple titles come to mind that force camera turning and make WASD movement kind of a chore. However, these are few and far between in my personal experience. *Bearable* Cheaters: I don't see obvious ones too often, but when I do, it can really ruin the vibe of the whole session, and even just having to wonder so often whether that last kill was legit can put a damper in it. This is the strongest case to me for having a dedicated console. *Pretty bad* Physical games: The decline in ownership is honestly a worrying trend that goes beyond games. In terms of a comparison, though, what % of console gamers are even still buying discs? Not to mention that modern game discs don't even contain all the game files anymore, requiring updates, and are region-locked. Anyway, GOG-while not addressing the transferability problem-at least solves the issue of licenses being pulled out from under you by selling games DRM-free. So, relatively speaking, agreed... *Minor annoyance* Couch gaming: It does suck that PC releases often don't offer local multiplayer when their console equivalents do, but there are lots of great ones to be found out there if you take the time to look. 2.4GHz dongles tend to be much more reliable than Bluetooth so I'd go with those; sucks Xbox doesn't include one but my 8BitDo did. *Minor annoyance* HDR: Agree that it's a pain to deal with even when it's available, but gaming in SDR still looks plenty good enough. We'll see if that changes down the line once I get a proper HDR400 OLED and get spoiled lol, but for now... *Minor annoyance* Windows: In a vacuum, it's too bad there's not a "godawful" tier for how bloated, intrusive, ad- & spyware-ridden, and generally hostile it's become over the years. But thankfully, save for the ever-shrinking fraction of games that require it, we can mostly avoid it nowadays with Linux, which I was pleasantly surprised to see mentioned in this kind of video! Also, remember that console OSes are just as proprietary and even more locked down-forget about emulation, modding, or just using it as a general-purpose machine rather than strictly gaming. Relative to consoles, the only real downside here is the troubleshooting, but you trade so much freedom for that extra bit of convenience, so ultimately... *Minor annoyance* Reminiscence of work: This is a very personal one, and I imagine much more relevant if you WFH, so I won't deny that it could be a big deal to some. Personally, though, that I happen to be sitting at a computer doesn't make gaming on my home PC feel anything like being at the office. As you mentioned, though, switching from a desk setup to a couch setup is a great option, if not without its faults. For myself, though-and, I'd venture to guess, most people? (CMIIW)-this one falls under... *Not a problem* Now, with all that said, everyone has different priorities and will assign different weights to each problem, and I won't fault anyone for choosing console in addition to or instead of PC if that's what's best for them. It's good to know all your options, though, including unconventional ones, and the true pros and cons of each.
@@egarcia1360 I agree with you in almost all of this list except price, physical games and couch gaming. Price: there have been a lot of deep sales on every platform (switch, xbox and playstation) the subscription to play online include games and free to play games don't need them, and the fact that with console you have the option to get very cheap second hand games that makes it still a clear win for console, even long term, I would say Pretty Bad. Physical games: you're right that having a disc does not mean much since almost every game needs a day 1 patch and a lot of them needs being online even for single player, however the fact that you can re sell them or change them for another game (I've done this in Facebook marketplace) makes it a very nice advantage, I would put this on bearable. Couch gaming: The experience of the interface and quick menus and changing options all from your controller is a night and day experience, it's not even close, even if it does not seem like much, but is like having a tv but not having a tv remote and having to use the tv buttons, it makes a world of a difference, specially with all the configuration you have to do with a PC, this is also a clear win for consoles, it's also Pretty bad for this one.
@@rodrigoalvas1866 Yeah, that's fair enough. I didn't realize you could play F2P without a subscription, and I may not have given enough credit to the value of transferability. I do want to note, though, that re: couch gaming, something like Bazzite or ChimeraOS can provide a very console-like experience on PC hardware, although it may still require some occasional troubleshooting, so again it comes down to personal priorities.
I am a PC gamer and I love it, but I hate when someone says "pc gaming is superior" because it can be, but for the price of a console it just won't be better, and most likely it would be worse, and saying that something that costs more is better is dumb. "My pc gaming machine beat the hell out of the consoles with my rtx 4070" for a machine that his sole graphics card costs more than an entire console with a premium controller and two games, well it better be. I literally had this conversation with a pc gamer but it's about the average mentality being honest.
Well, what about if we're comparing the price to performance of the ps5 pro (700+80 for the disc drive+80 for online) with a 1000 dollar prebuilt off of newegg? (also, why is the ps5 still 500 dollars? I can build something better for 750 at this point, which is the equivalent of a ps5, plus a few years of ps plus. )😒

The fact that you immediately assumed I’m one person airing my own grievances by calling me lazy shows a lack of empathy in understanding that not everyone wants to put up a fight just to play a game, which is something PCs are prone to doing, and I don’t know why people act like they don’t.

@@jorge86rodriguez And the Switch can run Android if you mod it, doesn't make it any less of a console. At the end of the day, Steam Deck is a piece of hardware designed only for gaming, running a dedicated gaming OS and subsidized through future storefront sales. The only thing that makes it PC-like is Valve not putting in any artificial limiters on what the user can do with their Steam Deck.
And a lot of the things that it fixes is thanks to it using Linux and having a decent software stack without a gazillion background tasks running, which you can say Windows does not have. Most of the convenience issues people cite with PC Gaming being bad are purely Windows issues.
I still remember those days when i used to play half life 1, Undying, System Shock 2, on my pc, don't have words to express that thrill and joy. Now pc games have become a garbeg, hardware is just unaffordable.
I use my high end machine to work as well. Use a lot of piracy for games and live in a country that really doesn't care about that. So PC VS console to me is not even a debate.
Why? Epic takes nowhere near as much money as valve takes from its devs. As a game developer I dont care how much friendly valve is to their "consumers"
Admit if I like play Games on PC (although the game was Casual). For me, maybe Play Games on PC has it's own advantages. Although it has some gotchas (disadvantages)
Great video. To me it all comes down to 1 issue. using different launchers for different games. That alone made me stick to console. 1 place to see all my games library, friends and achievements.
Some people are making comments about consoles here. Bro, this is about PC gaming issues. Non of these things are better on consoles. The issue he had with the controllers... I have no idea what he is talking about, tbh. I use 4 controllers often to play Mario Party. Never had an issue. Oh, and HDR? PC has the best HDR. What is RTX HDR? I don't know. It eventually will be good, guys, just wait until someone makes RTX HDR. I mean, SOMETHING in the future to fix this issue. It could have any name. Who knows?
I'd love to hear how you connected your controllers because Bluetooth connection struggles with just two, the only solution I found was to play wired or connect wirelessly using the Xbox wireless controller adapter
@@SurfsharkAcademy I literally just added one "device" after the other, and that was it. I only had to do that again once, because I moved the adaptor, so I learned that you shouldn't move it (leave it on the same port. Don't touch it, not even to unplug and plug it again after a second), and now my PC never forgets the controllers. I can just turn them on and they'll work. Sometimes there is a small issue and it takes one like 30 seconds to connect instead of 3 or 5. That's it. That's why I say I have no idea what you're talking about. I never had an issue like that. If it helps: two controllers are from Xbox One, and the other two from Series X|S. The only difference is Series shows the battery left by default. It's not like I have some secret sauce here. It works just like that. Like it should be expected.
Got a few things I'd like to add to this: Valve needs to make a Steam Machine 2 in-house already. Considering the Steam Deck's success and the PS5 Pro (And NVIDIA GPUs) being a complete joke in pricing. You can put together a Ryzen 7 5700X + RX 7700XT setup with the same SSD capacity as the PS5 Pro for only like $50 more when you bundle the Pro with the disc drive and the stand (Not counting the PSN subscription), and that's getting before the price of even just the base version of PSN costing $80/yr now (Now apply that for 7 years). So I don't agree with the pricing standpoint. Also, Playnite and Launchbox are absolute garbage. If launchers are a huge concern, just use Heroic Games Launcher and then import those games to Steam with non-steam shortcuts. You'll get the benefit of everything using SteamInput if you use that, so you don't need third-party drivers like DualSenseX if you commit the thought crime (from lazy developers) of not using an Xbox (Xinput) controller. Elden Ring's stuttering is very minimal on Proton, but that's likely due to Valve having shader caches that are downloaded for you. Most bad PC ports that people cite are due to some sort of performance issue that can be bruteforced, or lacking features that modders might add, so I wouldn't consider that in the same territory of porting a worse version of a game (like old ports from the 2000's porting from a worse rerelease of the game, or Ghostlight porting the worse Switch versions of games rather than their original PS4 versions). The GTA Online security issue is purely because they use Peer to Peer networking, which is a big no-no for games with more than a couple clients connected to each other. The cheating issue isn't really such if you don't play Live Service slop with engagement optimized matchmaking. PvP matchmaking games are toxic anyways. TF2's bot issue only began as soon as Valve added matchmaking. The big appeal for physical copies is getting them for cheaper without paying full price on the PlayStation Store or Xbox Marketplace. This really isn't an issue on PC when you can just buy your games through GMG or another key seller. Now the ability to sell your games is different. Valve mentioned that they plan on making games still available to play if Steam were to hypothetically shut down, but considering the cash it makes for Valve, I don't see that happening. I would urge Europeans to sign the Stop Killing Games petition if they want this to change. You can just set Big Picture Mode to launch when your PC does (or use Bazzite), and launch everything from a controller. I didn't have much issues with pairing more than one controller on Linux or my Steam Deck, so once again, that's a Windows issue or an issue with using a crappy USB dongle (trust me, I've tried a few of them on Amazon, all of them suck) rather than a motherboard that supports WiFi+Bluetooth. Most games don't even have local multiplayer on consoles, due to the cost of optimizing for two viewports at once and the fact they can get more sales that way by forcing online multiplayer, but yeah I'd agree that it should be at least turned into a PC feature if they can't get it working on consoles. HDR is dogwater on Windows. Been using an OLED monitor, and it's pretty good for HDR. It would be funny if games, web browsers, and movies had decent HDR implementations on Linux before Windows does, judging by how fast it's been for Wayland to support it. I think that Windows and Linux need color saturation sliders for HDR to fix the washed out issue. Most games I've played work on Linux out of the box or have workarounds. Again, this is a live service slop issue where they use invasive anti-cheat or simply don't tick off a checkbox to enable support (Like with Fortnite/R6S and how they use EAC and BattlEye), and I can just use GeForce Now or dual-boot for those instead. Roblox and several other games have decent Android versions that can be used in place of the Windows version running in WINE. Mod managers and mods that use DLLs and external applications to launch the game from are absolutely still an issue, but that's more of an issue with WINE and Proton, and can be worked around using WINEDLLOVERRIDES and ProtonTricks (Which lets you launch executables through a game's Proton prefix). This is an issue with modders even on Windows. Flawless Widescreen requires a background task running at all times and then injects into games that way rather than working as a DLL for example, and the creator has a bit of an ego when it comes to not supporting Linux (much in the same way they don't like Intel or AMD). PC Gaming isn't a job provided that a game releases with a decent port (Works fine with resolutions and DPI scaling, variable framerates, and decent controller support), and Windows works towards streamlining controller support. I can agree with this with a laptop or high DPI monitors (Where you often have to change compatibility settings or what GPU the game runs on), but on a regular desktop, this is a non-issue. Ironically, I found that using Linux on a gaming laptop works better because I just need to set the DRI_PRIME parameter to 1 in the launch parameters for a game to get it to use the discrete GPU. The Steam Deck is honestly much easier than using any handheld PC running Windows. Most games nowadays ship with controller support. Also the setup process for a console (don't tell me there's not a gazillion popups for subscribing to online services) and the fact that they throttle network speeds for downloads (cough cough PSN or Switch Online) is honestly worse.
The worst must be that stuff don’t auto-update. Either if it’s a game, shaders or literally the 100 other things that sometimes needs an update, that’s the worst. Right now, our gaming gang is 50% PC and 50% Series X. Could be that PC does play with slightly better FPS (More than 120) - BUT we always have to wait because 1 or more of the PC players always have an update, or they need time to adjust game settings to ensure they can run the game, overall it’s just very time consuming to wait for PC players (Unless they play everyday and really know what they are doing)
Does that mean console is perfect? Paying online subscription just to play online with my friends is sad. Some games only run on 30fps. Games on the Ps5 crash too or are very buggy (Hogwarts Legacy). Also im pretty sure a £500 PC can run AAA games just fine.
did anyone claim pc gaming is perfect? what a silly statement... is excessively expensive to do well and might require a bit of technical know-how every now and then (or someone that gets annoyed at any time of the day..or night up "fix" things)...sigh... but it's so much more versatile than a gaming console
How so? A gaming pc is not portable cant take it places from your friends house to your hotel room like consoles can and is wonderfull for couch play amd living room tvs, there is a reason why the steam deck is loved by many, one obviously is because you can take it with you and dock it anywhere especially the places i mentioned, another is absolutely because of its console like experience so much so its considered more like a console then a pc and alot of people love that fact including me especially for gaming. And man valve doesnt have to be the only company that does it that way if Microsoft can get their shit together for mobile devices running windows that would be awsome for gamers and would draw more console gamers in like valve has while still having all the other things that come with a pc example work and productivity not just gaming
I still have my old consoles. Even after steam dies, Xbox goes offline for good, PS goes offline for good, I'll still be able to play my Xbox, 360, GameCube, Vita, PSP, and Gameboy games.
Pc gaming sucks, even with a very expensive graphics card you still get stutters in many new titles, so it’s not perfect , you don’t get stutters on consoles.

Windows: In a vacuum, it's too bad there's not a "godawful" tier for how bloated, intrusive, ad- & spyware-ridden, and generally hostile it's become over the years. *Minor annoyance*
Reminiscence of work: This is a very personal one, and I imagine much more relevant if you WFH, so I won't deny that it could be a big deal to some. *Not a problem*
Now, with all that said, everyone has different priorities and will assign different weights to each problem, and I won't fault anyone for choosing console in addition to or instead of PC if that's what's best for them. It's good to know all your options, though, including unconventional ones, and the true pros and cons of each.
tbh i agree with your tier list more
im not reading all this...
@@andiogames1223 then why are you replying
And that's why PC gaming sucks l.
Thank you absolutely great point I would sure hope something that cost more is better sadly it's not always the case
Well, what about if we're comparing the price to performance of the ps5 pro (700+80 for the disc drive+80 for online) with a 1000 dollar prebuilt off of newegg?

You just turn it on, play it, no problems. However, because of the shit remains of an archaic bundles of terrible code that we call Windows 11 (or 10), PC gaming is pain. Most times I have to troubleshoot a thing or two to get the game running the way I want.

@@rubidium1948 You must be very lazy. It takes like ten seconds to do that.
@@thomaswest2583 It’s not a matter of laziness, it’s a matter of that most of what Windows offers in what else you can do over just gaming is fluff for many people who buy a gaming console for the sole purpose of gaming. Whether it’s seconds or minutes, that time adds up when you’re tinkering. The fact that you immediately assumed I’m one person airing my own grievances by calling me lazy shows a lack of empathy in understanding that not everyone wants to put up a fight just to play a game, which is something PCs are prone to doing, and I don’t know why people act like they don’t.
@rubidium1948 There is no fight. You turn it on click on the game and play. It's not hard at all. All the stuff you complaining about you literally don't have to do if you don't want to you are choosing to do it.

@@HunterTracksis an open platform it can run any software and any os, is a pc in smaller factor
Most of the convenience issues people cite with PC Gaming being bad are purely Windows issues.
steam deck is more a console than a pc

Got a few things I'd like to add to this:
Valve needs to make a Steam Machine 2 in-house already.
This was by far the smoothest VPN sponsor incert ever!!
Does that mean console is perfect? Paying online subscription just to play online with my friends is sad. Some games only run on 30fps. Games on the Ps5 crash too or are very buggy (Hogwarts Legacy). Also im pretty sure a £500 PC can run AAA games just fine.
Finally you made a long form video!!! I've been waiting for one so long
PC isn’t bad because you prefer to sit on a couch which you can also do on PC…
14:25 that is one of the best arguments for using linux (or mac), most of the malware in games like valorant only targets windows
For HDR part you could use RTX HDR for not deal with windows's horrible calibration 😊
did anyone claim pc gaming is perfect? what a silly statement... is excessively expensive to do well and might require a bit of technical know-how every now and then (or someone that gets annoyed at any time of the day..or night up "fix" things)...sigh... but it's so much more versatile than a gaming console
In my country rtx 4070 super cost around 800$
its alot easier though, mainly bcs hardwares are very fast now, even game can autodetect settings accurately (no need to set anything)
Facts. That's because developers are forced to optimize their games instead of being lazy. Why waste money on an overpriced system when you can buy a Nintendo Switch?
