I'm much the same. I'm in a few 5E games as a player because they're more plentiful, but I can't imagine trying to run that ruleset. Every time I look at my character sheet to see which feat I should be using for the thing I'd "just try" in Old-School, I'm reminded of how much I prefer that model of unbound openness.
In the old school, the DM can also just ask for a quick ability check if appropriate for the character class. They can function as broad skill groups. Thanks for watching and see you over at the BFRPG boards.
Yah, I think it’s the experience of the player when it comes to role play. But I HAVE seen even experienced players lean on “I roll for..” than role playing out a lot of interactions. But in my BFRPG acting stuff out does have to get coaxed out.

True, a lot more depends on the players and GM's than on the rules system.
