- Pie crust
2 1/2 cups cake flour
1/3 cups sugar
1/3 cups powder milk
1 cup Crisco shortening
1/2 cup cold water
Pie filling
2 cups of apple juice
2 cups of sugar
1 stick butter
3 ( 16 oz bags of blackberries frozen or fresh)
1 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup Kentucky bourbon
1/2 cup all poupose flour
Milk wash
1/3 cup evaporated milk
3 teaspoon sugar
bake on 400 for about 45 minutes

I bought some thornless blackberry plants. They grow along my fence. My neighbor trims them up in the fall. He picks his side of the fence. I have never made the new age cake cobblers.....only crust and dumpling cobbler .. homemade like both my granny's. One made peach the other cherry...I make them all and blackberry even made an apple cobbler for my grandson. I don't use cinnamon in my cherry or blackberry but am sure it's good. I make crust dumplings to lay in my juice then top layer. I saw one lady use 3 crusts to save time on dumpling pieces...that works well. I love how you teach and don't take short cuts. People always saying can't make things like their mom and dad....we can come close if we don't take short cuts. Thank you! God Bless!

What a blessing this is! It's so true that all other recipes are just pancake batter with blackberries. That's exactly what they taste like and I haven't been able to find one that actually is the blackberry cobbler I used to be able to get at an L.A. soul food restaurant. Thank you so much!!!

Hi Chef Charles, my Grandmother used to make cobblers of all kinds. She made a Blackberry dish that she called "Blackberry Doobie". She made it in a big pot like yours but she dropped into that Blackberry mix dumplings that she made by hand. Im going to try YOUR Blackberry recipe with dumplings. It is the closest recipe I have seen to hers. None of us were smart enough to get her recipe. I guess we just thought that she would live forever. Ill let you know how it turns out. I grew up eating blackberry cobbler that my grandmother made from the berries we picked. Every summer in Alabama I could look forward to this cobbler. I now have a recipe to bring this back into my life. One of my first cousins and I are always on the lookout for blackberry cobbler. We found one in a grocery store that we liked, but there is nothing like homemade, and avoided all of the additives and other bad stuff put into store pies. I can't wait to make this, and share it with my cousin. Thank you, Chef Charles.

In the first baking video of yours I watched, I wanted to comment that you show it right! Baking is a clean up after sport - flour drifts around on the countertop, drizzled milk and butter, eggs, hands get messy.....
Best comment - It's pancakes with berries! Best cookware - that heavy dutch oven!!! My mom had one and I have mine from 1978. Somehow the handle broke on my mom's lid and I was ordered by my dad to hand it over and trade lids 😆❤️❤️❤️

Ever heard you say where you are from. I'm in Alabama and you cook like mt Mother, my Granny & me. I love watching you. I don't like cinnamon or nutmeg, but assume I can use this same recipe for fresh bluberries, strawberries or raspberries.
