I wouldn't say it is hard to perform on the instrument side of things. The chords aren't complicated. I would say lyrically it would be difficult because there is much to it.

Other than chorus, the chords don't follow a pattern that's easy to memorize. Anyhow, whenever I try it out, I'm grateful for the ad lib at beginning and ending, no pressure, totally improvised time-wise. Takes me ten minutes to get through the whole song, and Don McLean's version is 8.5 minutes or so. I'm working on it but will never be able to sing it as beautifully as she does in this video, and my guitar playing will always be quite basic and intuitive. I'm getting ready to start mixing it up with a couple of other guitarists now, but will always claim the prelude and postude as a solo part...warmup & prep, cool down & rest.
