    Nice video, thanks. What in the world justifies that Marvin Ultimate costing 40-50% more than the Windsor. Both brands use the thicker extruded aluminum, the same cardinal glass and the same wood interior(pine).

    I enjoy your classes on windows. We have chatted before on historic looks etc. I am too old to get in to new windows. If I were building a new home from what I have seen, if available, I would still use what I have. Historic style M&W with all wood construction and storm windows. Now we can make our brick molding and bull noes out of PVC and along with proper calking, it will last quite a while. Draw back would be the glazing. I see too many videos of new type windows rotting under the cover material and that is not proper. Also is whether some one is going to stand behind what they promise. Love this stuff.

    Jeff, very instructive content, more useful detail than showroom salesmen. Here’s my challenge. We are replacing have our Pozzi windows, and want new one’s to resemble old ones in color and profile. This time we want aluminum clad or fiberglass, factory finished in 3 colors (2 outside / 1 inside). Which companies come to mind?

    Hi Jeff. You and your videos have been a great source of information about window replacements. I can tell you're a big fan of Windsor but I've heard that they have really bad customer service and won't stand behind their product for some dealers in California. What's been your experience when homeowners have had issues with product quality from Windsor?

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  Рік тому +5

      Bruce, I can only share my experience and the experience my peers have had with Windsor. Anytime we've had any issues with any of their products, they have been very good about remaking the window and moving us to the front of the line so that it could be expedited. If they're experiencing bad customer service in California, it would be surprising to me. I am wondering if it's the dealer who's the problem instead of the window manufacturer. I hear from people all the time that Brand X is a bad brand because they won't service their windows. Once I look into it further I've learned that it's usually not the brand, it's the dealer who's not responding well to the customer. I am not saying that that is the case in this situation, I really don't know. But I think it's worth investigating further to understand better where the problem truly lies.

    Hi Jeff. One category that I don't here you mention with these brands is quality control. As I was doing research on customer reviews on Windsor pinnacle, I got mixed results. Some rave reviews, but also some reviews of seal failures and leaks after a relatively short time. Should I be worried if I choose Windsor? Based on your experience, how do these brands fare in the dependability dept? I heard you using cars as a comparison. Lexus, Mercedes, etc. Even though Mercedes and Lamborgini are higher performers, the Lexus is very dependable. Which of these is the Lexus of the bunch?

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for watching and for your question. What I have learned is that almost all mistakes that happen with Windows occur in the installation process. It's rare to find a window manufacturing that does not produce a reliable product. If you read closely, the reviews online typically talk about an installation issue or a dealer related issue.
      All of the products I mentioned are considered the Lexus of Windows or better. We do not sell any products that we do not get great support from the manufacturer on.

    When designing a.3,000 sq. foot home- what % of cost should I anticipate for windows (product only- not installation)- I've used Marvin windows in the past and was very pleased. That was 12 years ago, has quality changed greatly between manufacturers? Materials? You mentioned extruded aluminum- if I want low maintenance for 25 years- would you still recommend Windsor? Designing a cottage/bungalow style home. Thank you!

      I prefer Windsor or Marvin windows for what you're doing. The cost is hard to answer because one 3,000 sf house could have 10 windows and another 3,000 sf house could have 25 windows.
      I'd just be sure to get a couple of quotes to compare the pricing.

    Hey Jeff! Just found your channel yesterday and have watched almost half of the videos on your channel already lmao! I'm about to start building within the next couple weeks and will be using 2x4's. Live in Corpus Christi, TX so extremely humid and always hot as you know. Will be ordering black windows for our modern/contemporary home. Absolutely love the blacked out look of the Marvin Ultimate but as you stated wouldn't fit my home. You mentioned the Windsor Pinnacle having a thinner sibling to allow for 2x4 installation. Do you have the window name for that model? So far I've received 2 quotes. Anderson 100 series and Pella Impervia. Impervia being over $10K more. Love all the videos, keep up the great work and best of luck on growth of your business!

    The Pella salesman said the Architect Reserve has extruded aluminum on the frame, but roll-form on the sashes. He said that was standard for all Aluminum clad windows including Marvin and Windsor. Is that true? From your video it sounded like the entire Marvin and Windsor window was covered with extruded aluminum.
    Thanks you for teaching me about window replacement options.

    Ive been watching a bunch of window reviews. You appear to be a reliable subject matter expert. Whats your take on the marvin essential? I was stuck between the Andersen 100 or Marvin Essential. I think I am leaning towards the Marvin. Im thinking essential because all fiberglass doesnt bother me, and im not going to be staining the interior or the window. Anyway, thoughts on essential vs 100s?

    • @HoustonWindowExperts

      Unfortunately, I've seen that a lot in the last 10 or 15 years. What's happening is, energy star keeps raising the requirements for efficiency. In order to achieve these higher efficiency numbers, window manufacturers have to use much tighter tolerances under windows. They also will use a heavier gauge weather stripping. That causes the window to drag more and feel more difficult to open than one would expect. I guess it's a trade-off?
      You could try a greaseless silicone spray on the track. That might help lubricate things a little bit.

    location: south (hot, humid); this is for new build; in 2001 we built and put in Pella crank, I hated these! could've been the installers fault who knows but some would crank easy and some not. for this house, budget isn't a problem (praise God) so I want the best; #1 is keeping as much heat and uv out as possible for temp of home and protection of interior furniture etc, #2 ease of cleaning inside and out; I want to clean exterior of windows from inside; lot has breathtaking view so for some of the windows unless there's a way I'm not aware of I would assume we have to have a "fixed" window??? If there's a way to have a non blocked view plus open for air flow and the ability to clean from inside please say;; also, I don't want to see any plastic or weatherstripping either on interior or exterior

    Hi, I'm having a hard time deciding between the Marvin elevate (fiberglass) windows, and the Pella Lifestyle (aluminum) windows. Which do you believe are the better window, not only in performance (keeping moisture away from the wood), but how clean the looks is from the outside? I'm a little concerned about the roll-form aluminum cladding of the Pella, as I've read it's as thin as a soda can and some people found moisture could get behind it, and that extruded aluminum is better, but I'm just not sure whether the roll-form aluminum is still better than the fiberglass option. I also read that despite Pella's life time warranty, people have had a difficult time dealing with customer service... Would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  Рік тому +1

      As far as durability, the Marvin fiberglass window will outperform the Pella aluminum clad window. However, it's not really fair to compare those two because they're not the same type of window. One looks totally different than the other and serves a different purpose. I would suggest visiting a showroom where you can see both products in person

    • @AM21214
      @AM21214 Рік тому

      Pella uses the extruded aluminum more for style to match historic details or square profiles with the reserve series rather than durability, roll form still performs well and the warranty is the best in the industry offering lifetime on the frame and glass.

    • @HoustonWindowExperts
      @HoustonWindowExperts  Рік тому

      Are you saying that roll formed is just as good as extruded?

    • @AM21214
      @AM21214 Рік тому

      @@HoustonWindowExperts not necessarily, extruded offers a cleaner look with the butt joint rather than overlap but it’s more for style rather than durability. Also comparing Pella’s reserve with Marvin’s ultimate would be a more fair comparison with price point.
