I loved Ray Alan, and remember first seeing him when I was a child, when he performed with Mikki the Martian. Such an apparently modest and unassuming chap. He would have had every right to be full of himself, because he was just brilliant. Not only a very skilled ventriloquist, but highly polished performer, with truly great routines ! I only wish there were more clips of him still extant. I watch the ones that are, over and over, and still find them funny, and marvellously entertaining. R.I.P. Mr Alan...and thank you so much for bringing joy into our lives !
Really pleased you enjoyed this..I was very lucky to be there..What an unexpected treat...I do have a little more footage..I will see what I can do...All the best.
The inimitable Ray Alan, unbelievably brilliant, god bless him for making us laugh. His acts were so brilliantly crafted. Thanks Jon for putting this up, wish there was more. He was a comic genius, no one comes close.
Poor old Ray is clearly starting to get a little breathless by this time, but what a rare treat for you. True king of the Ventriloquists. This must be one of his last performances. Thank you for sharing this rare treat 😃
Ray Alan and lord Charles, a class act, has me in histerics every time ! I wish there was more video of them on the net, thanks for putting this little gem up for us to enjoy.
Diesel man mike ...... Yes,I quite agree, there should be more of Ray and Lord Charles, but I suppose we should be grateful for what content does exist at all 🧐
hi. What a real treat. I have re-listened to this over and over for a year when I want a smile - and I always get one. Ray Alan was the best. A modest unassuming performer, toured with many including Laural and Hardy, well versed in magic and an altogether pleasant man and entertainer. I had the rare fortune to be on the same bill well over 30 years ago now. He was kind, one of the people and simply did his stuff without grandeur or a sense of self-elevation. His technique was amazing and to his day I have no idea how he perfected it to such an astonishing degree. He is sorely missed and you were indeed lucky to witness such an esteemed artist. R
The very best in the business. I saw him many times and met him on a couple of occasions after the shows. He was a perfect gentleman and a brilliant performer. He is and always will be sadly missed.
Never saw him live, funniest thing on tele when I was young. Seeing these later and comparing to others, Allen and Charles no doubt the best ever ventriquolist act. Envious of those who’ve seen him live.
The very best, I loved Lord Charles also. He told a story once that he was playing the Palladium but as he was young and just starting he was very far down the bill but very high up the staircase, he was in a little dressing room on the very top floor, there was a knock and he was amazed to find Oliver Hardy {who had very bad legs by then} and he came all that way to get HIS autograph.
Hi. I have seen this clip quite a few times now since last year. I did enjoy it very much. Ray Allen was indeed one of the top vent acts. so smooth, unassuming and likable. It was so worth you taking the time a effort to place on here for everyone's enjoyment. Thanks a lot. R
Wonderful. Thank you so much. He's always been a real hero of mine. Well, his Lordship has. Always thought the other chap was a bit of waste of time actually. Very special.
Hi, thank you so much uploading this absolutley rare video. Ubeleveble i can see this. He is still one of the greatest Ventriloquists of all times. Please please please, upload the rest of it. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for sharing this. Even after all these years (I used to watch him on Tv in the 60s and 70s, when I was a child) he still makes me laugh. Most modern day ventriloquists (ventristoquils? 😜) don’t have a fraction of Ray Alan’s skill. He intrigued me as a child and he still does. I know Lord Charles is not real but my mind thinks he is 😂
This man was to ventriloquism what Sinatra was to popular singing - unquestionably the best. He seemed such a modest guy too. Hope he realised just how good he was.
That's a great comparison. Sinatra had great technique but he didn't ever show off. Ray is the same. He doesn't go for tricks or "cleverness" just uses his great technique in service of the "relationship" between himself and his alter ego.
Lord Charles - one of the great Upper Class Twits, possibly even more upper-class and twittier than Vivian Smith-Smythe-Smith, Simon Zinc-Trumpet-Harris, Nigel Incubator-Jones, Gervaise Brook-Hampster, or Oliver St. John-Mollusc
Thanks for sharing this! Wonderful! I received a lovely note and picture from Ray about a year before he sadly passed away. I wonder what happend to Lord Charles after he passed away? I have been told that Steve Hewlett the Britain's Got Talent Vent acquired him but don't know how true that is.
You watch others and they might have some good tricks but Lord Charles was just such a completely real person. It's more of a straight forward comedy double act where one of them just happens to be a dummy. More than most others he's just a master comic. He must have done a lot of work developing the character or else he was just divinely inspired. There's no topping this.
Lord Charles..... Based on a REAL MAN. He was sat in a nightclub with 2 blonde ladies sat either side of him... Ray Allen spotted him and knew straight away that was his future...
He is the only ventriloquist I’ve ever seen who makes me think the doll is real. No other ventriloquist is this good

So glad someone recorded this.
Hilarious. Simply the best.

He was one of the best we ever had never another
What a talent ! I just love this lind of thing. Totally enjoyable without any rude references about anyone else. The man's a genius. TU for posting !
Poor old Ray is clearly starting to get a little breathless by this time, but what a rare treat for you. True king of the Ventriloquists. This must be one of his last performances. Thank you for sharing this rare treat 😃
It wasn’t just the impeccable ventriloquism, but the way Ray animated Lord Charles, and brought him to life😇
In my opinion the greatest ever
I must have watched this a hundred times and still love it.
RA, simply the best.

Absolutely brilliant, such a great act!

The two and only, Ray Allen and Lord Charles. Technically the best, excellent witty script.x
Never saw him live, funniest thing on tele when I was young. Seeing these later and comparing to others, Allen and Charles no doubt the best ever ventriquolist act. Envious of those who’ve seen him live.
Very very clever and entertaining !
Wonderful, thank you.

Upon Ray's passing, Lord Charles was said to be "unavailable for comment".
Wonderful. Thank you so much. He's always been a real hero of mine. Well, his Lordship has. Always thought the other chap was a bit of waste of time actually. Very special.
He was THE best. Hands down. None better since.

I really enjoyed this clip I laugh so much my stomach hurt. it's one of my favorite. thank you for the upload..
I was a child when I first saw Ray Alan - I used to love Titch and Quackers
Great routine. Easy listening. Thanks Ray.
Brilliant..happy days as a child whenever I ran to the tv to sit and stare at Lord Charles .. wot became of him?
Very sadly he passed away..not long after this...

totally the best ...thanks
Ventriloquist par excellence and a nice man too.
A long time since I laughed and cried!
Ray Alan was quite simply The Governor.
My favourite as a boy and evermore.

Wonderful
I can quite understand the camera movement, I would have found it impossable to keep it still, thanks for posting it, the bloke was a genius
Absolutely fantastic skills. Check out the video where Lord Charles has a dummy too. Amazing!
great ventwilaqilst
How brilliant was this man? Lord Charles is a funny little cove, by George.
sad there isnt more than a few clips of him on you tube really with over 40 years in entertainment
Callum Phoenix he was buried with ray Allen. ..
@@simonprice7441 this makes sense. Lord Charles always 'aged' along with Ray (a particularly nice touch), and of course he died when Ray did.

Not bad.
Please make it stop........it hurts to laugh so much.
