- Appearing here on David Nixon's Magic Box, this seems to be an early version of Lord Charles which I remember being a larger puppet.
Ray Alan toured in cabaret all over the world and performed once with Laurel and Hardy in 1954 and apparently Laurel was the inspiration for the look of Lord Charles! Alan made his television debut with Lord Charles on the BBC programme The Good Old Days in the 1960s (I'll tray and did this out) and the pair regularly re-appeared on the programme. - Розваги
I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is no other ventriloquist, either from the past or active today that comes anywhere near Ray Alan. He was in a class by himself. He's the only one who can say a perfect 'P' without moving his lips.
Ray Alan and Lord Charles - Ventriloquism 2137pm 15.5.23 indeed. i concur... and the drunken doll stands the test of time due to him, the vent - who is the vent?!! - being able to get round the difficult vowels and consonants by being................................... err drunk.
Well said, that man!!!! Dead right!!
Arthur Worsley.
Not only a superb technical ventriloquist, but also a superb actor and straight man. It is the way he reacts to Lord Charles that hugely increases the believability. It’s simply outstanding - and also very funny,
@@MrAronRobinson He was good but not as good as Ray Alan.
Brilliant. My favourite of theirs is when Lord Charles brings out his own ventriloquist puppet!
"Hello Gug'ner!"
@@gregoryschmidt1233 Hahahahaha smiling just reading and remembering that. "It's not him, you silly @rse, it's me"!!!!

He was the undoubted best at that type of act. Lord Charles’ criticism of Allen’s attempts at ventriloquism is surreally funny. The character is a classic stereotype and paradoxically very believable.
Damn should have got a green furry duck! 😂
Eternal love to the brilliant Lord Charles & Ray Alan
He was one of the best in the business.
This is Brilliant!! Ray's talent is phenomenal!! Thank you for posting.
Very talented man, miss entertainers like him
True artistry, performance and showmanship all in one
A master of the art
I remember when the sad death of Ray Alan was announced and someone reported that "Lord Charles was unavailable for comment".
He was certainly a great performer and a nice man in real life, he came to our humble primary school on the Old Kent Road to give prizes and charmed us completely.
He deserves to be remembered warmly.
Great clip. Yes, I remember him larger...
Brilliant, good old fashioned humour at its very best, R.I.P. Ray
What a legendary pair the best in the business 🙏🤝
Ray Allan was an absolute top professional. Good man
The way Ray reacts to Charles is incredible. He sells the illusion flawlessly. He's listening to him. Add onto that the technically flawless ventriloquism and great jokes. A performer operating at the highest level
Arthur Worsley. UK 🇬🇧
Go Lord Charles and Ray! \m/ Master Ventriloquist
wow, lord charles haha, the best drunk ever.. him and the dad from rita and sue lol
very good ! great technique
I've just been looking into Ray Allen and Lord Charles and I love how Lord Charles ages over time too. Amazing little detail.
Bloomin' marvellous ! You can't see Lord Charles's lips moving, either ! LOL
At the height of his popularity, Ray Alan had a new, older-looking Lord Charles made, because he'd aged, and so should Lord Charles. It was a great move, and was widely reported at the time. If I recall correctly, the new dummy was introduced during a TV variety show, so of course its viewing figures went up significantly that week.
Utterly charming
The best, technically and comedically!x
That was fun, thanks. Nice to look back.
The best vent I have ever seen..
Loved how Lord Charles always sounded like he'd had one too many G&Ts!😂❤
Superb performance absolutely superb
That's where Jacob Reece Mogg came from
3:29 I love the fact that the puppet causes him to corpse.
So amazing !
Ray Alan, Nina Conti, Arthur Worsley. Terry Fator. Four of the best, (imho).
Don't forget Paul Winchell and Jimmy Nelson.
Hey Presto,
Thanks for this brilliant act-Ray Alan is the best ventrilaquist I have ever seen, and Lord Charles is so amusing, a fantastic creation!
Ray & LC appeared on the same bill as Laurel Hardy in a live show. Apparently. Babe Hardy asked Ray for his autograph. Now thats recognition from a great artist.
Not sure why that tall bloke is there at all, the little fella has all the good lines.
Appearing here on David Nixon's Magic Box, this seems to be an early version of Lord Charles which I remember being a larger puppet. Lord Charles was a puppet? No! I don't believe it you silly arse!
How Lord Charles put up with that silly arse for so long I'll never know.
I believe it was due to his drinking problem.
😅😅😅little brother stayed MESSED UP😂😂😂
I tried to be a vent act for the very first time during covid.......
I was the absolute gugger nor...
Think about it...😅😅😅😅😅
Does this man not realise he's having a conversation with himself?
Because he certainly doesn't act like it.
The butters off …. The butters off
There is no puppet there are 2 actors on stage, one made of flesh and bone and the other is made of wood.
ray alan and trevor brooking
Ray Alan and Lord Charles - Ventriloquism 2136pm 15.5.23 as they have a go at you for suggesting vents appeared on the radio... what else shall i say old ed?
Stone lips
I just wrote this comment and I bet none of you saw my lips move.
Talking to yourself has that effect, I find! Haha
The man that made a lot of money talking to himself.
Today's vent act is Nina conte equally good
Great ventriloquist, but I'm not a fan of ventriloquists so I'll get my coat
He's no Charlie McCarthy lol😊
Didn't he have a rapping dragon at one point..silly arsr
That was Ronn Lucas, Scorch the dragon.
Such a good ventriloquist, but Lord Charles is so creepy
extremely hard to understand... sounds drunk. I know he isn't, it's just the ventriloquism, but man. Also the jokes are a product of their time...
He is supposed to be slightly drunk!
Silly ass 😅
Ray looks like kier freebie ponce scummer
With a tiny tape recorder placed in the back of the dummy it was very misleading for many years. I was very impressed until i discovered the truth.
What? Don’t talk nonsense, you silly arse.
@darrylashton8428 You can't make such a bold statement without explaining how you came to find out. This is the very first time I have heard anyone make this claim, and that includes prop masters who actually handled Lord Charles. 🤔🤔
Utter bollox.
