In my first Rock’n’Roll band in 1957,this was our only waltz,in the style of Gene Vincent’s 1956 version....I’d turn to the drummer and say, “Hayseed, wind!” and he’d feather the big cymbal with his brushes!
I googled that version by Gene Vincent from his 1956 45rpm single release. The long electric guitar bridge was fantastic. Lots of these rock stars were great on ballads, especially ELVIS and RICK NELSON. I actually liked their pop and country ballads MUCH BETTER. I had forgotten it was Vincent that had that big hit BE BOP A-LULA. He died aged 36 from a ruptured stomach ulcer in 1971. OUCH😿😫😆
@@thecrushedtwinkie6632 ..Good stuff Milton! Google guitarist Cliff Gallup and check some of the other ballads he recorded with Vincent,at Bradley’s Barn...I’ve never heard better turnarounds since!
@@Grahamgusbull I googled Cliff Ballard on your advisement and listened to his instrumental: ("Jezebelle", Cliff Ballard and the Four C's) on the drummercraxycaps channel. I was impressed. I read his bio and learned that he died from a heart attack at age 53, and that "Billboard" or some other authoritative source listed him at #79 among the top 100 guitarists among pop/rock. Also how his widow blocked any mention that he was connected to Gene Vincent in the local newspapers of the town in which he died. I think it was Nashville. How she had this power makes me dubious that her wishes were actually carried out. (The Everly Brothers recorded my favorite vocal of "Jezebel," which included fantastic virtuoso guitar work. Next down my list is Frankie Laine's rousing version. Thanks for this recommendation.)
@@thecrushedtwinkie6632 ..Can you imagine in 1956,when me and my school pals were still strumming three chords to Midnight Special behind the bike sheds, then hearing Cliff Gallup’s solos on Gene’s first LP..WOW! Forgot how good the Everly’s version was too. Thanks for the rest of the information...you never disappoint...Happy New Year! ps. Wicker Bill has just posted a Johnny Tillotson.
