I just want to point out one thing that might validate your theory more. In the loading screen when describing arcanists the text says: "At first there were many, but now they are few." This could be hinting at the fact that as the lineage carries on the Arcanum gets more and more diluted and especially when arcanists mix with humans that becomes more apparent. This also shows why Manus Vindictae hates the mixed impure arcanists, because to them that will end the Arcanum lineage and since they want a world consisted of only arcanists, them existing could dilute the genes and make the next generations closer to humans.

The other things he loves is mycology (the study of fungi) and in the story this is the main medium in which he does anything that seems to resemble arcane rituals. So he's just a little human kid that uses fungi to have these “supernatural” powers
