Might be a great video opportunity to give us all some pointers on painting armies at smaller scales! Maybe even a chance to demonstrate on some 6mm Napoleonics if not Legions Imperialis minis :) Just a thought anyway! Keep up the great work :)

Fab! Its certainly a subject that bears discussion. I, like many others I am sure, have started painting these smaller scales and in some ways its like learning a whole different thing. There really is more an emphasis on giving the appearance that stuff is painted, when really its somewhat sketched in! Brilliant vid. Such a lot of great approaches and tips to unpack. My favourite being to not be afraid to punch up the colours a bit more to make the minis look good on the table. As you said if it was super realistic then armies would look like shapeless dark blobs. Bloopers were spot on 😂👍

Doing that trick to make the stubble is great, definitely gotta try that. Another thing I use test models is to figure out in what order I need to paint elements going through the classic inside to outside approach. I was painting some Death Guard and I found through my test that I should do the hard to reach areas first so if I make a mistake on them later it'll be harder to navigate around already painted areas making cleanup a chore
I stopped painting a while ago. The thing I really miss is trying to hold something just right, holding my breathe for the detail then getting it just right. Its beautiful to see you doing that Chief.

I’m not trying to be awkward (s beginning almost as insulting as “I’m not trying to be racist but…” as I don’t play historical games of any description, nor do I have any real knowledge about the Sharpe stories other than the ones that were made into a television series and even that is lacking yet I had always thought that instead of the English armed forces that were having a casual toe-to-toe discussion with Napoleon’s forces did not actually have a mob of specialists because any such specialist would be assigned to a larger group (I know that I am truly displaying just how much I don’t know about anything…) almost as if a single sharp shooting person would have a larger group of soldiers and they would march to and from wherever they were assigned to attack or whatever it was they did, I have read a lot of other books that Cornwall is very liberal with the truth so is that game just a representation of the stories instead of history? Sorry that took me so long to get to the point of the question. 🙋♀️

I used a test model for my Camo scheme for my guard. It was the Platoon Commander from the Cadia Stands box, something something about first in, last out type of thing.
Great advice, I recently got into historical modelling and they are tiny! It’s got too a point where I paint the skin around the eyebrows instead of just all over as some are so small you can barely see the eyebrows
Great timing, this is something I'm currently trying to figure out for my Tyranid scheme. I've got the colours I'm going to use lined up, but deciding on specific tones/shades has me in something of analysis paralysis 🤣 it's at this point I'm thinking I may have bought too many paints....
Yep analysis paralysis is certainly a big roadblock in painting, I’m sure if you keep the palette to a few colours to start with you’ll find a scheme that works
By my count that’s 1.51 Sharpes per minute! That’s good going Peachy, but it can be higher! Also, I can’t believe that Sean Bean even died (twice) in this video, the man just couldn’t stay on that shelf!
I am literally re-reading through the Sharpe novels now, and also watching the show again, so this video has made me very happy. Sean Bean didn't die in Sharpe, so he's trying desperately too in picture form!

I am looking to branch out from citadel soon and the Fanatic range is one I've thought on. They seemed quite good in this video, I shall ponder more. I once met Pete postlethwaite on my way to work being a big fan of Sharpe all I could say was Sharpie!!! and he laughed and responded you can't kill me
I normally go with two test models, used in order. The first is just like yours: A scheme tester. But normally, by the time I have a scheme, I've done way too many complicated things, corrected stuff, and ultimately did something I don't want to repeat. The second model, once I have a scheme, is where I am lining up the specific steps, and the right order of operation: Are mistakes harder to fix if I work in one order or in the other? Do i really have to go with a different paint bottle, or a different wash, to get a better look that skips a step. Only then I pick 5 models at a time and just execute.
Chiltern Miniatures did a banging Sharpe and Harper. Now out of business but I think SHQ Miniatures inherited their moulds, although SHQ seem to be on a hiatus at the moment. Worth keeping an eye out though....
That photo though! Brilliant video, truly you are one of the chosen men! Which is your favourite of the novels? They're all good but I particularly like Enemy and Gold. All the prequel ones in India were good as well, like Tiger. Also appreciate the copy of Silver Bayonet on display - great game. You've made me want to dig out some of the 6mm Napoleonics in my collection to paint for Blackpowder now!

😍👍 yeah I do find getting that breathing and steadiness does take the longest time to perfect, but it will come in time

Great timing, this is something I'm currently trying to figure out for my Tyranid scheme. I've got the colours I'm going to use lined up, but deciding on specific tones/shades has me in something of analysis paralysis 🤣 it's at this point I'm thinking I may have bought too many paints....
Yep analysis paralysis is certainly a big roadblock in painting, I’m sure if you keep the palette to a few colours to start with you’ll find a scheme that works
By my count that’s 1.51 Sharpes per minute! That’s good going Peachy, but it can be higher! Also, I can’t believe that Sean Bean even died (twice) in this video, the man just couldn’t stay on that shelf!

I am literally re-reading through the Sharpe novels now, and also watching the show again, so this video has made me very happy. Sean Bean didn't die in Sharpe, so he's trying desperately too in picture form!

A superb video Mr Peach. The approach you take makes me feel better about mine and I like how you touched on new range of paints use. I am looking to branch out from citadel soon and the Fanatic range is one I've thought on. They seemed quite good in this video, I shall ponder more.

I normally go with two test models, used in order. The first is just like yours: A scheme tester. But normally, by the time I have a scheme, I've done way too many complicated things, corrected stuff, and ultimately did something I don't want to repeat. The second model, once I have a scheme, is where I am lining up the specific steps, and the right order of operation: Are mistakes harder to fix if I work in one order or in the other? Do i really have to go with a different paint bottle, or a different wash, to get a better look that skips a step.
Only then I pick 5 models at a time and just execute.

Chiltern Miniatures did a banging Sharpe and Harper. Now out of business but I think SHQ Miniatures inherited their moulds, although SHQ seem to be on a hiatus at the moment. Worth keeping an eye out though....

That photo though! Brilliant video, truly you are one of the chosen men! Which is your favourite of the novels? They're all good but I particularly like Enemy and Gold. All the prequel ones in India were good as well, like Tiger. Also appreciate the copy of Silver Bayonet on display - great game. You've made me want to dig out some of the 6mm Napoleonics in my collection to paint for Blackpowder now!
