How to start a BSA B50MX with one kick, all day.

- Get the kick starter to the point of max compression TDC, time the release of decompressor to get you past the resistance for a fraction of second then release while following through on kick. Tickle the carb first until it is evident on your finger as this will ensure the idle passage has it's prime on inlet side of slide. Boyer was installed on this bike as well as clutch service adjustments and wiring clean-up. As nice or nicer than my sold MX but on the road and in use in the Rocky mountains now or at least the foothills.
One of the best vid's of the B series... sure makes me miss my old 441 gal a lot
Repeated tapping on the float chamber pin is nonsense. Anyway - a fabulous engine!!
That's exactly how I remember my B50 MX sounding. Starting it was easy too, unlike those 12 step programs cycle magazines always advised in kickstarting a thumper. Tickle the carb (I never did it remotely as much as you do here, though), kick the engine over once with the compression release lever pulled, and then swing away. The B50 engine sounded and looked so good, and was compact too.
They were down right difficult to start with the Lucas points ignition. I did discover that fitting the timing cam unit from a Norton twin helped with the auto advance problem the original had with the bob weights bending the tabs that secured the springs to the body. The Norton one was much more robust,, and rotated in the same direction as the original. The easier to get Triumph twin cam breaker unit rotated in the opposite direction.
I had one of these from new, the best thing I did with it was to sell it as it was so unreliable.
Very nice. Can't wait to race on one this season
Nice Bike!!!
nice bike!but i dont think you have to pump the carb to induce wear . push and holds it down to open up the valve should do the trick. unless you want to keep the gas leaks as little as possible then i understand. notice you are from vancouver from one of your video. is there like a vintage/ cafe club that you hang out and cruise? i have a 72 bonnie and she is having hard time cruising with my buddie's 600-1000 sport bikes. and been trying to find riding buddies with similar bikes.
Brilliant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So do I! hope I get the chance to buy it sooner than later LOL!
well nice - impresive - a tad more class than my SRX600 me thinks
Where is your ignition timing set ? 28, 30, 34 or 37 ? Please respond, its important.
Start it without the release. I want to see how bad everyone says it is..
I would really like to know how you came up with that exhaust and what manufacturer it is from sounds like a twin and not your usual single........fantastic.
The silencer arrangement came from the badged up Triumph version, the TR5mx.
@@waltertacey3639 It is a Krisman exhaust factory fitted for California sales regulations for spark arrestors. Tri and BSA used each others bins at that point.
@canammx1
Just remember, if it does not break once and a while your not revving it hard enough LOL! Thanks,
No thumbs-up for you due to a complete lack of audio describing what the heck you're doing! My old Triumph T25T started reliable after tickling the carb (hold it down until gas leaks from the hole) before kicking it over. Does your bike have a compression release? I would have loved to see you come back, shut the bike off, then re-start it. Better luck next time.
You have 0 vids poser. LOL!
@jf99151
I can't afford to replace mainshafts from kick-backs sorry. LOL!
@mysterryable
Still using 2MC cap on this and on my 441 which runs without a battery very well and even powers my 55w halogen. Not something every "rider" BSA does.
I have parts for this bike
@djfung
Do you poke a girl to make her laugh or do you tickle her? It's called a tickler not a pusher. LOL! habits die hard.
Music..Sounds British..
