You may want to invest in some snake leg guards or boots. I grew up around there, and I don’t know how many times I stepped right over a rattlesnake and didn’t even know it. Also, I would suggest adding a snakebite kit to your first aid supply. It’s a must for the Arizona desert.
Chris, get a blacklight flashlight. Useful for clearing your property of scorpions as well as your campsite. Trust me, they're out there. Just don't get freaked out once you discover how many there really are. Tonto and the Superstitions have a lot to offer - primitive tracks, lakes, rivers, canyons, wildlife, historic towns, and awesome campsites. Keep exploring.
Hey another thing to keep an eye out for in Arizona is wasps. They use cavities under rocks for dens. When disturbed. Well start running. Welcome to Arizona.. haha
Chris. A few episodes ago you mentioned not being as surefooted as you were before the broken foot. I bought a pair of "old guy" trekking poles a little over a year ago. It made a world of difference to me in confidence over rougher terrain especially when I'm carrying 20-30 lbs of camera gear and water and snacks on my back.
Loved this and the area u were in 😁 welcome to beautiful and diverse Arizona !!! (Try tombstone for a visit if u two like the old west and it’s history !)
As I commented in last weeks episode, you delivered on one of the many fantastic areas Arizona has to offer. Recognized immediately the area you were in. Perhaps by design, you just touched the surface of the sites in the area. BTW the dispersed CG you tagged are great for star gazing. Thanks for sharing.
Hey good to see you settle out in the wild west, im loving your videos and adventures all the time, I've visited AZ many times for work past and present, i can tell you some of my favorite places in Tucson area are (Barrio Brewing co. & Illegal Petes restaurant) so if you haven't already visited them spots i suggest you do, you really gonna like them, aside from that, keep exploring and hopefully one day will meet on the trails, keep safe and have Fun! & remember "Adventure's A-Foot" 🤣✌
Chris, I do believe that is the old alignment of the road. Compare on the GAIA 1900 historic map and I believe it lines up. There is so much history in and around the Superstitions region. There are very neat things to find too. Several ruin sites, caves, ranches, you name it. Even some filming locations for old movies and TV shows and a marker for a whiskey Company scavenger hunt. Enjoyed the video. Maybe we cross paths on the trail sometime 👍
Oh, you have reminded us that we need to get out and explore the Superstitions again. We have stayed away since they closed section of Apache Trail due to storm damage a few years ago. But that area is gorgeous.
As a local I will say welcome to my favorite trail! It's short but sweet, the technical part at the beginning is great for some quick fun. Every time I make an upgrade to the vehicle I go out there to test it out. And the scenery isn't bad either! 😍
Tortilla Flat burned down about 10-15 years ago. All teh dollar bills you see now are relatively new. I was lucky enough to have a dollar in both the old and the new.
You need to keep an eye out for a Gila Monster now. I guess it is extremely rare to see one even for life-long residents of Tucson. I saw one when I was visiting my parents and brother.
Been to Tortillo Flats a few times in the family SUV.....but have not gotten there in my Rubicon. Was somewhat unaware of the trails in this area......and may need to plan a trip that away pretty soon. I did the road past the Roosevelt impoundment some years ago....and traveled around the superstition mountains.....it is a beautiful (albeit long) drive......but I heard they closed that road.
I wouldn't normally tell you how to change your excellent videos and this is one of them for sure but I do have a note on dialogue..... When you got to that stagnant pool you should have said "... But it looks gross so I'm not going to venture..... Forward.".
Please tell me you got some ice cream next door. If not, you have a reason to return. A Butterscotch pecan and mint chocolate chip waffle cone is on my must have list every time I go to Tortilla Flat. The roasted candied pecans are bomb ass road food as well, but they will be gone before you clear canyon lake.
Just found that station a few weeks and am really enjoying the filming and dialog. Dialog especially. Love the info. I do have a question about the filming though if you don't mind. How do you get your camera to track you??
Chris I LOVE your channel! I would love to collaborate with you! You have inspired me to go on more adventures and you’ve literally changed my channel and how I view off-roading as a whole. My Dad lives in the Phoenix area and I’d love to join you on an adventure or two. Sincerely-Motoring Adventure YouTubr channel!
Anybody know if 8 ply offroad tires are sufficient for offroading in this type of country? I know 10ply tires are also available in some instances. Just wondering?
Speaking of graceful - last summer I used the fateful words “Hey watch this I’m Chris” when jumping from one large flat rock to another. Chris I’m not!!
I’m happy to see Shannon is keeping with diversifying Chris’s diet with home prepackaged meals! Great views and interesting sites on those roads this week
Love Arizona so much.👏👏👏👏

I camped by Drake Arizona and had one under my tent when I packed up and a 2nd came out when I opened the tent in the garage to dry it. 😮
Also helpful in hotel rooms!

Welcome to my world Chris. Lots of jeeps and other offroad folks in this area.
Love the area and home is across from Goldfield Ghost Town.
My 93 ZJ is pushing 204,000 miles and still running strong. In-line 6 is a beast!
10:45 good to see you being a little more careful on foot! No more jumping down those rocks, ok?

Great shot @ 5:50 :)

Awesome! I look forward to seeing you at Expo West!
awesome as always.thanks for sharing and taking us along

Springtime in the desert, short but sweet.
Welcome to my backyard. Enjoy!😊

I would suggest that while you’re in the area to head up to Crown King via Castle Hot Springs. There’s good food waiting for you in Crown King!

Welcome to Tucson! Your first summer will test you, but the phrase "it is a dry heat" really makes sense.
I'd say that you consumed more vegetables in that one meal than you would normally eat in a month! Shannon is a wonderful influence.
I'm pretty sure there are struggles but you live my dream life! Love from Japan.
i need to make some time to just let curiosity lead the way and wander.
Hey Chris…I was just there … with all the rain everything seems to be in bloom …it was beautiful

During the fall in the Santa Lucia mountains down in Big Sur CA. it's tarantula breeding season. You will see them running across the roads.
There are plenty of snakes, and scorpions out there not to mention coyotes and mountain lions. Javelin has a bit of an ill temper lol.
One of my favorite AZ trails.

206K miles?? Jus made me more of a believer now for Jeeps longterm

You forgot to get a prickly pear flavored ice cream next door to the saloon there. It's delicious. You're right in my back yard where I grew up at.
Chris are you going to explore outside AZ again? I miss your trips outside the desert! Don’t get me wrong, az is amazing but Canada misses you!
Reminds me of the older videos. Very cool. Head up to the Arctic Ocean Chris.
That Quesadilla is a meal for 3 people 🤣
Hikes like that here this time of year in a cool narrow canyon? You're definitely going to up your rattler encounter counter.
...and your scorpion count is about to go up as well. Most likely inside your new abode 🦂 just life out here.
great video
You need to explore East and north of Roosevelt lake.
We love watching your adventures. Ireland just doesn't have the playground for proper 4wd adventure like the US or Canada.

Great video thank you!

Texas plates?
Chris, what are you wearing for summer hikers? They look a cool earthy rusty red...👍
Chris wondering if you'll be at Expo West?
Anybody know if 8 ply offroad tires are sufficient for offroading in this type of country? I know 10ply tires are also available in some instances. Just wondering?
8 ply is more than enough. A lot of jeeps run 6 ply tires (C load, LT)
How many miles do you have on your current springs and shocks?

☺️💕
I love seeing your content, but you really are not an "overlander" anymore. You are more of a guy that goes camping each week. Still cool!
Chris love your channel. Question, what's the plan for the Land Rover?
