I can understand why'd they remove the summon feature from BD2 it kindof went hand in hand with the Second feature for some absolutely horrendous damage. But calling Beastmaster underwhelming is surprising, even ignoring it's mega statstick capabilities, it has massive support potential from the wide range of monsters you catch to support yourself and your team
I think I said it in the video. But I remember using beastmaster for awhile but eventually it wasn't really as good of a class. Like I remember capturing high level monsters but them going from doing like maybe like in the high hundreds maybe a little bit over a 1k damage. To barely doing any damage at all. I looked up Reddit threads and googled how to beat things and I kept seeing things and people saying that yeah beastmaster isn't really that useful in the late game. Still hope we bravely default 3 though.
My main complaint with this game is how it removed pretty much all of the Quality Of Life features the series is known for and some of the things that were fun on the other games were made more bland or worse. - Grinding has been made way more annoying, I am not a fan of grinding in rpgs but the first two games made it actually fun by how quick it was, it didnt felt like a waste of time at all like it feels here. On Bd2 enemies are on screen now rather than random encounters like on the previous, but grinding has become a pain because of this cause you have to keep hunting monsters that are running away from you and you have to waste time chasing them while on the other games you just crank the encounter rate to the max and enter a battle every 3 secs, it was very fast to grind. and yeah you can buy the items to atract monster but those were so rare that it didnt solve the problem at all. - The dificulty options is barely a option, all it does is that monsters are a bit slower on easy and a bit faster on hard, it doesnt affect their stats and hp like in the previous games, on BD1 and 2nd I could put the game on easy to reduce the need for grinding but on BD2 I'm forced to grind regardless because putting the game on easy dont matter at all - It takes way to long for every character to have acess to specials, on BD1 and 2nd you ave acess to specials for every character by chapter 1 and it incentivized the player to experiment with multiple weapons and classes to have acess to new specials. on BD2 by the time the last character(Adelle) gets their special you already 65% into the game and it makes the characters that dont have a special yet feel more useless in battle in comparison, not to mention the game now has less special variety. - Bosses now have bs counters that in the previous games they wouldnt have acess to, and some of those counters are so strong that they reach close to unfair and this forces the player to use the classes that the game wants rather than letting the player formulate his own strategy using the classes that he wants. - The bravely second, SP, and summon features are gone(those could have been the solution to the players stuck on a specific boss due to the bs counter attacks, not to mention having other players be able to help you made the first two games feel more alive for me and it felt like I was playing in a comunity cooperating with other players) - Multiplyers risk vs reward system from bravely second is gone, again BD2 making grind annoying for the sake of it. - Barely no skills that allows mixing classes weapons with other classes( for example on BD1 you would get on several classes a skill to up your proficiency with that class's specific weapon to use with other classes, that meant you could have mages using swords, warriors using staves, etc. this is barely a thing in BD2) - The weight system just plain sucks - The previous turn system worked way better for the brave and default mecanics than the atb bars from this game, the atb bars worked better on the old final fantasys 4 to 9, but not as good here. - Maybe its me, but I also found the damage calculations to be super weird, it could be that maybe I was doing something wrong but sometimes I would hit a enemy weakness and it would do little damage and somwtimes I didnt even hit a weakness but the attack did a lot of damage) - Some of the classes are pretty much made more bland for the sake of it like: performancer > bard, darknight>hellblade also the exorcist class not returning is acrime, It was so much fun to use the undo skills on 2nd - The game also has some broken moves that pretty much removes any reason to use anything else, for example:godspeed strike Now the good things that this game does: - The story is a bit on the generic side but its way better than Bravely second, second is my favorite game because it has the BEST gameplay but its story was a confusing mess, the story and city arcs in BD2 are way mor einteresting from wiswald ownwards - The game feels grander and more expansive, especially the cities - Revo is back doing the music, B2nd music wasnt bad but its no denying that the music that Revo composed for BD1 and 2 are way better. - It perfected the "loops" on the story which the series is known for - The characters all have their importance for the story, again doing things better than 2nd where Magnolia, Edea and Tiz are just there for the sake of it.
Yeah the first game is pretty good but it is kind of repetitive to get the true ending but still good. Bravely second was also pretty good, though I heard people seemed to not like it as much as the first but I thought it was fine. And 2 well you watched the video so you already know it was a mixed reaction for me lol.
so yeah though i think i did a better job than the last video essay i once again over estimated the length of the video. i thought it was would be 15 to 20 minuets but it came out to under 10. so i left some stuff out. the things i left out was me talking about how i actually got stuck on the second to last boss of bravely default 1 for an actual month and had to grind skeletons for so long. and i still look back on the game with praise so that really showed how much i wasn't having fun with bravely default 2. i also was going to mention that i thought it might of been that i just outgrew turn based rpgs. but i played earthbound beginnings and persona 5 royal and i had a great time with those games so luckily that wasn't the case. also sorry that the timing of things, especially the ending portion of the video isn't super tight and kind of weird....i uh record/got all the footage today when i was supposed to post it so i'll try not to do that again so the next video essay doesn't have any or at least less weird timing. okay now i'm done i don't even know if anyone is going to read this long comment lol.
It has good aspects. I mean I didn't hate the game. But like I said in video the game just felt like a chore a lot of the time for me. And you don't want a game to be that lol.
SO FACTS! Bravely is amazing but the newest installment was so bad, why are the characters and story so bland. I like the changes to combat but even then the og combat is better
oh cool this reached a thousands views i somehow missed that. but thanks for watching....even though this is kind of a controversial video a little bit. but my next video essay might be even more hated. but like i don't think the next one is even that big of hot take it's just the fanbase is really toxic that it might not go well. lol pray for me boys.
yeah i don't know about that i could never progress with the classes i was using and i when i googled stuff i was always overleveled. then once i used the class i just got i finally progressed and it was basically like that for the whole game.
Regarding your point on the class system: I don't agree with you that the game funnels you into a particular job that you have to finish the game. Personally speaking im on my second play through with a 2 year gap. I played the first time with a focus on magic, and this time just trying to initially maxed out key jobs I wanted to make a physical damage build. And from watching OmegaEvolution videos of his, I can determine you don't need to use specific classes to beat some bosses of the game. Every job has a different way to approach combat and emphasis, that I can't agree to this "Funnelling of playstyle" with jobs. I do see that you didn't seem to master some jobs with ssetth like the spiritmaster, but that is a terrible way to play. You may not need to master it specifically like the spiritmaster, but there are certain passives in those jobs that might greatly benefit you for some roles your looking for. Like the sub job specialty 1 is an excellent passive that I would just get for every party member. Am I saying you have to grind? No my friend, but I see that you maxed out the thief, vanguard, and swordmaster for Ssetth. Why didn't you master the freelancer instead of it sitting at level 6, and get both jp up passives? It took me an 1 hour- 2 hour of effective grinding to get those, and it makes the chore of getting out jobs passives a lot easier. It's so weird how your talking about how your funneled into using certain jobs, yet you missed out on the FIRST JOB that allows you get all the other jobs easier, and gets a stat boost based on mastery over those jobs. As for your point to gameplay in regards to speed and turn: You didn't actually understand how the turn actually work. First thing is that it does not based itself off armor heaviness, or how encumbered you are, but your speed stat. The speed stats determines how quickly your turn bar fills, and encumbrance affects it. You didn't understand that firstly, but your conclusion from this that, "It can lead to party wipes" I find the oddest thing. Again I've played this twice now, and I never thought the turn bar system was the reason for my fail states. My last point is directed to how you thought late game was designed, which is in regard to the first of the 3 final bosses. You criticise the game because at least the first one, all you had to do was equip a shield that nullify the wind attack from the boss, and it was easy. Now this sounds fair if you didn't like the game and you can add this on top of it. If your to be serious, you would realized that every boss in the game, when you know something particular about them, can be made easy. I don't understand why your complaining about a game where you are rewarded for proper preparation and using great defensive tool, or by having a certain knowledge of the boss fights that they become rather easy. Well yes because I prefer a game that encourages me being creative and critically think about my bosses in strategy.
i don't think i ever mastered the freelancer class in the first two games lol. but yeah the gameplay changes just messed up the enjoyment of the game for me because i kept getting to the point where monster would run away from me meaning i was over leveled but i couldn't beat the bosses. which doesn't really seem like that something that should be a possibility. just lead to too many moments of " i want to play this game my way but i guess i have to do it the way the one way they designed it." and for the final chapter or chapters of the game is was just fruastring the way i was playing in the beginning was "wrong" but suddenly it was okay for to play that way now. i don't know i'm not sure of the sales numbers of 2 but i hope we get a 3 and it's more like the first two games.
@@crazyBloodmonkey I still enjoy the video, and I hope you still enjoy the game. It is a great game and I love it. And yeah Bravely Default 2 sold a million copies within the first year, before jumping onto steam.
I respect your opinion. I really enjoyed the battle system and job system. I did use the jobs that I liked the most, magic jobs were a little underwelming for me. For me the worst aspect of the game were Gloria and Seth. Adele was cool tho.
Yeah I guess I didn't really use magic jobs that much. But still I wish there was more freedom with the class system like the first 2 games. There should have been more than 1 or 2 ways to win the big fights. I don't think it's great to force the player to use a class they may not like just to progress. I mean maybe I just played this game wrong but like I said in the video Everytime I checked online I was always over leveled so it was like "why ain't I winning." 😂
not a review just something that kind of resembles a video essay. i can't remember if i said it in the video but yeah the beast master class was good until finale chapter. it basically did nothing to all versions of the final boss. so it can carry you through most of the game but at some point you have to stop using it and use a different class.
I can understand why'd they remove the summon feature from BD2 it kindof went hand in hand with the Second feature for some absolutely horrendous damage. - The game also has some broken moves that pretty much removes any reason to use anything else, for example:godspeed strike
Now the good things that this game does:
- The story is a bit on the generic side but its way better than Bravely second, second is my favorite game because it has the BEST gameplay but its story was a confusing mess, the story and city arcs in BD2 are way mor einteresting from wiswald ownwards
- The game feels grander and more expansive, especially the cities
- Revo is back doing the music, B2nd music wasnt bad but its no denying that the music that Revo composed for BD1 and 2 are way better.
- It perfected the "loops" on the story which the series is known for
- The characters all have their importance for the story, again doing things better than 2nd where Magnolia, Edea and Tiz are just there for the sake of it.
yeah i enjoyed the story but the gameplay changes really dragged down the experience.
The wait system gets on my nerves, especially when fighting D-Vergr. When the G-Oetias hits you with Irritant, the turn goes out whack.
Been curious about this series thanks for reviewing

steam
I was turned off once i noticed they took out classes instead of adding upon them and new ones
Love the bravely series but DAMN. This game felt incomplete. Really liked the characters but the ending was very VERY underwhelming.
@@Miles-wy1zr huh I don't remember the ending being a letdown more just the game wasn't that fun to play at a lot of points.
I would kind of disagree on that you can use jobs you want you just have to be able to play around the weaknesses
