I agree with Steven, Walt's pep talk to the schoolkids is exactly how he has been computing the event in his mind. You can tell he's been thinking about in a LOT in the preceding days.
Oddly enough, Walt was making a valid point. He just took the really long, uncomfortable way to get to his point, and he chose the worst time to do it. They have to be given time to grieve first before being given the "we survive, we move on" speech. Walt just wants to forget about it and this was his attempt to convince the whole school to just forget about it and move on now.
Exactly, but rationalizing and making a valid point aren't mutually exclusive. Walt just wants to forget about it to clear his conscience about the butterfly effect his actions started. But the fact that over time we survive and move on from these disasters is valid, just so poorly timed and inappropriate to say to a gym full of students barely a day or so after the crash.
Walt clearly wasn’t a completely heartless person; he felt bad about it and this caused him to briefly consider burning what he probably considered to be blood money, and that same guilt compelled him to seek rationalization and to look up a list of worst air accidents in history. However it’s also a story of evolving jadedness - walt’s reaction to death of innocents in season 3 is not the same as the one we see after the train heist (without giving too much of a spoiler)
It’s because Walt is trying to pathetically assuage his own guilt in the matter over dozens and dozens of deaths that resulted from Jane’s dad’s depression which resulted from Jane’s death which resulted from Walt’s actions.
In Mexico, Santa Muerte is known as Our Lady of Holy Death. You must crawl to her shrine as a symbol that nothing is higher than her. Those who reach the alter usually leave offerings for safe passage into the afterlife for loved ones or themselves. Others leave offerings as a wish for death itself.
When I went to Mexico City in the 70’s there were people at a cathedral doing the same thing…crawling low on the ground on their hands and knees. My dad explained that the people were performing an act of penance before God. Same idea, I guess. I also remember the altar literally covered in small gold trinkets, left by the faithful as an act of devotion; a way to say thank you for prayers answered.
It’s interested when you said that you thought that Gus wouldn’t want to work with Walt again because now he knows that Hank is his DEA agent bro in law. But actually it’s the complete opposite, because how does Gus survive this long? By hiding in plain sight, and that’s exactly what Walt is doing. The last person on earth that Hank would suspect is Walt,so in actual fact Gus would welcome someone with that kind of cover story.
Plus he already knew IMHO. He has Mike vet everyone he works with, and Mike is very, very thorough!!! Mike actually says, "Id I can't find anything, I highly doubt they (cops) will"
GoT Season 1, Episode 1 Nikki: Omg, not the wolf... why did they kill the wolf...??!?!?! Why is there so much death in this? GoT Season 7, Episode 1 Nikki: Yes, Arya! Kill them all! Breaking Bad Season 1, Episode 1 Nikki: No, don't make drugs. Stop it, Walt! Breaking Bad Season 3, Episode 1 Nikki: I mean... 3 million in 3 months... DO IT! You got the time!
The twins are also coolheaded dudes, in real life. The explosion is very real, and the twins kept their swag, while walking away from falling pieces, which were way too close to them. A sweet detail!
Walter getting into the drug business put not only him but his whole family in danger. I understand Skyler wanting a divorce because you don't want your family around that kind of environment and your husband eventually stepping on the toes of the wrong people. The Cartel has snuffed out several families without even a speck of remorse. Those guys don't play. Remember when Hank said "They better hope we catch up to them before those boys from Juarez do", welp...

I loved listening to that podcast. Listening to Vince Gilligan and everyone else on the cast and crew made me appreciate the show so much more. Such a great resource.
I think the reason why he flat out told Hank 'half a million in cash' is because he almost wanted to get busted at this point because of his guilt. This episode was pretty much Walt regretting the choices he's made and everything wrong he's done. As if the plane crash was a reality check that the drug business is leading him down a path of (self) destruction. At this point he doesn't wanna be Heisenberg anymore hence the title. Walt just wanted his family back, started burning the money he earned and even turned down Gus' offer.
No joke, I had the same reaction. I watched BB just after all the seasons had aired (2014 I think), and I genuinely thought I had skipped an entire season and started Season 4 by mistake.
So excited for you two to start this amazing season. Nikki cracked me up with “No mas everything, no mas marriage.” Fun trivia fact - the explosion at the end was real, and the two actors had ONE chance to film it without flinching. If they flinched they would have had to scrap it and do something else. So the take we see in the episode is that one chance. They used a special camera lens to make it look like the explosion was closer to them then it really was but other than that it was authentic.
@@BIGxBOSSxx1 But they're still at the beginning of Season 3. To be halfway they'd need to be halfway through this season, the middle of the middle season.
The continuing theme of "daughter" in seasons 2 and 3 is so powerful and heartbreaking. Like its crazy the parallels the writers took these characters through. Also Walt and Jessie are the only ones not wearing the plane crash ribbons. The guilt they both harbour is really deep
Here’s a fun fact guys about this episode. At the school assembly scene Bryan Cranston’s real daughter plays one of the kids. I believe she stands up and speaks on the microphone .
There's this ridiculously cute thing Nikki does. Whenever Steven hypothesises about something, and says a questions like, "Is he gonna ________?". Nikki says "I don't know..." in the sweetest, sincerest voice, while she continues watching. These two are so adorable, I love it :)
Btw, I would recommend, as season 3 starts off that people commenting leave no hints whatsoever and no subtleties about future episodes bc the element of surprise is really critical to this season so if they are about to start "a particular" episode don't say stuff like "I can't wait until you see what happens in (this episode))" since that will set off their radars to expect something pretty big to happen. Just let them watch and let it play out. And you know which episode(s) I'm talking about.
As someone mentioned the blond at the assembly was Taylor Dearden, Bryan Cranston's daughter, but also, in the news footage montage in the beginning, the woman describing how it sounded like heavy hail is Robin Dearden, Aka Mrs. Bryan Cranston. He also directs this episode. He directed the one with the lovely avocado face mask imprint on the fridge scene as well.
And thus begins the season which made me legit go crazy after BrBa! Don't get me wrong, I liked it since the beginning but I didn't get the hype BUT by the end of this season, I was madly in love with it and totally understood that this show is art
Did you notice at like 12:40 Jess is planting yellow flowers, Janes fav color. also in school assembly 14:41 , ( actually before that) , all the kids are wearing blue, like skyler and while you get the idea lol
The fact that you both had such physical reactions at 18:05 shows that you must be amazing parents and very empathetic people. So glad I found your channel!
👯♂️ I love the cliffhangers that this show ends episodes with. You always want more. About 20 years ago a couple of guys were pulled over for speeding in NC. They ran from their car carrying what looked like a large bag of top soil between them which they eventually dropped to make their getaway. Turned out it was 100 to 120 pounds of marijuana seed which the DEA said could grow into about a billion dollars worth of pot (assuming it all germinated) El Paso is on the border of Texas & Mexico & very close to New Mexico. It’s about a 3 hour drive or a 30 minute flight from Albuquerque The twins probably crossed over somewhere near El Paso but wherever they crossed over in Texas they are definitely in west Texas & not far from NM
So I'm years behind on this show. Finally watching reactions now. Nikki's deeply concerned face, Steve's constant "stank face" lol. You two are absolutely awesome. Instant subbed.
I like that the writers let Skyler actually put it together herself that her husband was involved in the drug trade. Even though the whole premise of the show is supposed to be that Walt is such an unlikely drug dealer that no one ever suspects him, given everything that Skyler lists off having discovered at the end of the previous ep. (especially all their bills being paid with a huge amount of Mystery Money) at some point it goes from being unthinkable to inescapable. I was thinking that even when she told Walt that she "didn't want to know" when Walt was offering to tell her the truth as she was pulling out of the driveway, she already kinda knew.
Kind of ironic who they got to play the group therapy facilitator here, as this actor played a sleazy group therapy participant in the late 80s/early 90s sitcom "Dear John".
I’m about to binge all your BB reactions for the rest of my night! I finished this series over winter break. One thing that stands out is how fricken realistic the family member drama is!! It’s like the Whites and Schrader’s are an actual family that you’re watching! Addicted to this show, it’s fascinating. Breaking Bad = best “real life” drams ever GoT = Best fantasy drama ever(although it’s realistic) I’m so excited, this is your guys first time watching? Or is this a rewatch or something
IMPORTANT !!! When you got shot and the killers don't shot on you anymore and you are still alive it's really important to pretend you are dead even if the pain is aweful, if you wanna stay alive pretending you are dead it's the best way to survive... it's one of the good advice I could give to people when there is a shooting.. there are survivors from bataclan in Paris they were hiding under dead body who fall on them or they were pretending to be dead on the ground and the terrorrists thought they were dead so they left letting them behind... When the cops are arrived they were still pretending to be dead but there is someone who could see and saw cops and get up because he knew it was cops and at this moment a lot of people who were still alive just get up, in an interview a cop said it was unbielivable but watching all these dead bodies on the ground and seeing people getting up in front of us it was helping us to not be crazy..
If ya ever get a chance to visit Albuquerque. There are Breaking bad tours and one with the winnebago. Lol the car wash. The pizza house . The rehab scenes ect all physical locations.
I totally missed the title thing when I watched the show. I don't actively avoid episode titles but I also don't intentionally seek them out in case they have clues to what's in the episode. I like to go in as blind as possible. That said, I don't think I'd have put it together if I was paying attention to the titles.
Season 3! Yessss. Btw, if you guys are in SoCal and wanted to see the RV with bullet holes, you can see it down at Sony Studios in Culver City if you take the tour. Not sure if they still have Walt's Aztec and Jesse's Toyota there on display but they still have the RV for sure. :)
I haven't watched Simpsons regularly for 20 years since everything I've seen from the last two decades has been terrible, so maybe they've already done this but if they haven't they really need to make a Treehouse of Horror episode where Flanders turns out to be a legendary meth cook.
🕺🏽🕺🏽. 👯♂️. 🕴🏽🕴🏽. 👢👢. 🦂🦂. 🐍🐍. 🦈🦈 I lived in Albuquerque when BB filmed there. Got to be an extra for two days. They needed a parking lot full of our beige and taupe cars for an upcoming twins episode. So they paid a few hundred people to borrow their cars and also paid us to do nothing for two 14 hour days. I lost my mind from boredom. We were stuck inside an empty gutted circuit city. Everyone else played cards for 14 hours a day. I saw Hank but no one else. I hadn’t even watched the show yet. An exjunkie extra told me he loved the show so much. I hope he’s still healthy and with us. He got to be in the filming because he had the right look.
I've almost finished season 3 and in my opinion its the best one so far. Can't wait to see your reactions, you are going to be on a roller coaster! 👨👨( Not the best emoji, but at least you know I stuck to the end of the video) ;)
The opening is a SANTERIA ritual. Santerial is kinda like a latino Voodoo. It came from the hispanic carribeans. It's voodoo with catholic symbols in it, and It has the same African origins than Haitian voodoo. In Brazil, It's called Macumba. A weird mix of african paganism and catholic christianity.
The Santa Muerte ritual isn't part of Santeria. Santa Muerte in Mexico is a death cult Aztec religion with some mexican folk Catholicism thrown in to give it some familiarity and credibility. Santeria is something else.
that shit is scary, once I saw in the discovery investigation channel that a college kid had being sacrifice by a cartel group that practice things like that.
@@Tusc9969 personally I don't see any difference, except It's darker, because of the mexican fascination for death you mentioned. It's still carribean voodoo mixed with spanish catholicism, plus in this case, Aztec death cult.
See, I love your reaction to this channel. You wondering if anyone figured out the pink bear foreshadowing, yet you yourself have the theory about gus going after hank this season without even getting into the episode. 🤟🏽
KOB 4 is one of local news stations here in ABQ actually. So yeah they didn’t come up with a fictional name for it, I think the reporters are actors actually.
Watching that episode again with you I realize how spectacular Anna Gunn's Skyler is in that divorce papers scene. What else could you do to protect your family in that situation?
Hmm, what I would have done is work out a deal with Walt and allow him to stay in the family if he not only he stops being a drug dealer but also drive me to any and all meth labs and systematically destroy every piece of glassware and dispose of every single reagent he has, with me watching. To me, witnessing Walt destroying every piece of equipment and reagent from his lab would be enough proof that Walt is serious about quitting as opposed to some mere empty promise.
Yes, finally the twins are here! Also dont know if you ever done those types of military low crawls, but that shit hurts your knees. Especially when they had us doing it on a uphill, dirt road with rocks scattered throughout the ground.
Also… Remember when Walt was sitting in the car with Jesse and he was trying to figure out how much money he needed to make to leave the family? It was (737) thousand dollars
Nikki is obviously one of *those* Moms. I HATED having one of those Moms. (Not 100% sure, but I believe it's the same kid who a few episodes ago was trying to get Walt to raise his test grade from 58 to 60 so he wouldn't have to go to Summer School, the one to whom Walt responded "Never try to bullshit a bullshitter.")
That is La Santa Muerte 😂 and people in Mexico crawl from long distances as an offering so she can answer your prayers. People do this with other saints as well like La Virgen de Guadalupe, El Santo Niño de Atocha... etc. my grandma did it once and she crawled 4 miles for my mom when she got very sick as a kid.
15:58 “But is that, like, his way of trying to cope with everything that’s gone down?” Yes, that insensitive speech from Walt was his pathetic attempt to desperately assuage his guilt that he feels from his role in Jane’s death leading to all this
I will say with 100% fact that I did NOT see the plane crash coming, and no they didn't hint at the names whatsoever when it aired and remember, Netflix wasn't like it is now so we couldn't even look at a list of the episode names to make it easier
Hello guys. Not voodoo that would be in the Caribbean. This was Mexico or close to the border, so I think what they call La Santa Muerte. Or Malmuerte the saint of the Narcos.
The people at the beginning were crawling towards a shrine for Nuestra Señora de la Santa Muerte, (Our Lady of Holy Death). Apparently she is often viewed as a saint to drug dealers. I'll let you speculate WHO the two bald brothers are from there. 🤵🤵💙
(Very late reply, so I reckon others have commented on this) Generally speaking, I'd assume that drugs manufactured in a lab will bring in cash much faster than growing cannabis. A plant takes around three months to mature and you'd need plenty of space for large-scale production, so even though the demand for cannabis is much higher than for other drugs you've got a major bottle-neck there.
So, because Vince Gillian was on X-Files, his fans would already be looking at the titles of episodes. Half the fun of picking up a T.V. Guide in the 90’s was to see an upcoming X-Files title you wouldn’t get to see until Friday
Rationalisation.
It’s like the Whites and Schrader’s are an actual family that you’re watching! Addicted to this show, it’s fascinating.
Breaking Bad = best “real life” drams ever
GoT = Best fantasy drama ever(although it’s realistic)
I’m so excited, this is your guys first time watching? Or is this a rewatch or something
If you look at his face when she said weed, it was like he thought "you really think that low of me" like if weed is beneath him
You two ever watch Malcolm In the Middle? Walt is Hal and Hal is Walt.
14:09 Isn't that the kid Walt said don't bullshit a bullshitter too over the homework he was bullshitting about.
ritual for Santa Muerta....Saint death...i think is the translation.. Cartel members pray to Santa Muerta.
the volume of weed would be immense to make that kind of money. he would have to have lots of acres of land
If you haven't been able to place him, John de Lancie (Jane's father) played "Q" in Star Trek TNG, DS9, and Voyager.
Props to Walt Jr, saying "NO, im NOT alright, I'm NOT ok, wtf is going on with my parents?!"
He is due an explanation.
Season 3! Yessss. Btw, if you guys are in SoCal and wanted to see the RV with bullet holes, you can see it down at Sony Studios in Culver City if you take the tour. Not sure if they still have Walt's Aztec and Jesse's Toyota there on display but they still have the RV for sure. :)
Yeah!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Can’t wait for the rest of season 3. 👬
Yay!!! Literally what my entire day has lead up to!
Same, baha
Walt kinda acts like Flanders sometimes lol
Sean Taylor he looked like him in season 1
I haven't watched Simpsons regularly for 20 years since everything I've seen from the last two decades has been terrible, so maybe they've already done this but if they haven't they really need to make a Treehouse of Horror episode where Flanders turns out to be a legendary meth cook.
🕺🏽🕺🏽. 👯♂️. 🕴🏽🕴🏽. 👢👢. 🦂🦂. 🐍🐍. 🦈🦈
I lived in Albuquerque when BB filmed there.
Here's a bit of trivia! During the gym scene, the second student who speaks on the microphone is Bryan Cranston's actual daughter.
Here we go season 3
I've almost finished season 3 and in my opinion its the best one so far. Can't wait to see your reactions, you are going to be on a roller coaster! 👨👨( Not the best emoji, but at least you know I stuck to the end of the video) ;)
4 is twice as good as 3 imo, and 3 is good too. 4 and 5 are some of the greatest seasons of all time for a tv series.
Wassup yo! 🙄
Puts a smile on my face every time lol
10:14 “Don’t do it you stupid shit head what are you doing?!”
That had me cracking up 🤣
Always when I start work you post videos if only I could watch and do delivery’s at the same time hahaha
It's not African at all. It's straight up native american and catholic.
Its not Santeria, Voodoo or Macumba, its Santa Muerte. Totally different thing
You went so far up in my book when you made the Mark-Paul Gosselaar joke. I have never heard anyone else reference that movie.
See, I love your reaction to this channel. You wondering if anyone figured out the pink bear foreshadowing, yet you yourself have the theory about gus going after hank this season without even getting into the episode. 🤟🏽
Can't wait for you to see EVERY episode 😃👬
KOB 4 is one of local news stations here in ABQ actually. So yeah they didn’t come up with a fictional name for it, I think the reporters are actors actually.
I believe this was Bryan Cranston's directorial debut, and he did a damn fine job.
You're right. This was more of a challenge though. I think he did great work in this one.
Sorry I meant his debut of Breaking Bad, which was beginning of sesason 2. As for season 5, he directed the first episode of 5B, not 5A.
Am I the only one that caught the dead man on campus reference from nikki? That movie is hilarious.
Been waiting! Woho!
The title of Breaking Bad comes from a Southern colloquialism that means to raise hell.
👬 You two make my day with your reactions. Thanks for being awesome. 👏
Also… Remember when Walt was sitting in the car with Jesse and he was trying to figure out how much money he needed to make to leave the family? It was (737) thousand dollars
I got it as I watched “Seven Thirty Seven”, not normally that perceptive lol!
13:53 - WOW, Nikki called BS on that kid instantly! Impressive.
💀💀Great reaction as always guys. Intelligent, funny, second best thing to watching Bb for the first time.
360p crew!
Oh yeah yeah. I'm waiting for higher resolution.
1080p is finally available!
I served in El Paso and ya Mexico is right there. Almost sharing,
2024 and I just learned about the titles
The twins left the car keys as payment for the clothes. Their enemies aren’t the public.
15:58 “But is that, like, his way of trying to cope with everything that’s gone down?” Yes, that insensitive speech from Walt was his pathetic attempt to desperately assuage his guilt that he feels from his role in Jane’s death leading to all this
Notification pops ...Me: tight tight tight whoooo
The creator's of the show do a lot of cold openers too in Better Call Saul.
Check out the movie The Guest. It is a great mystery- thriller.
Another awesome reaction this is my favorite season love ya guys 👬 the twins lol
This opening was a big WTF moment for me, when I first saw this episode.
(😎😎 twins, yo)
You guys caught up with the Normies
So, because Vince Gillian was on X-Files, his fans would already be looking at the titles of episodes. Half the fun of picking up a T.V. Guide in the 90’s was to see an upcoming X-Files title you wouldn’t get to see until Friday
