It's the perfect example of what happens when you listen to everyone else and not yourself! We need to do what makes us feel alive and be our best at it! Not take on others insecurities about things. When we be ourselves, and live our best selves success will naturally follow. But I get it can be hard to know who to listen too when we are seeking constructive criticism.

I get that people can get hurt by what he says. Totally. I would start crying if he’d be mean to me. But I also always loved him for that. Being able to be that honest is a gift.

There are also many cases in which he straight up bullies contestants. It’s just not fun when someone believes in themselves and go out there just to get bullies by him. He should be a little more kind and instead of just calling people utter shit, criticize what they do wrong and tell them what they should work on. This is why The Voice is better. They criticize and tell you what’s wrong so that you can bounce back from that blow even stronger

Simon tells people when they are bad and does it in a way that he knows will discourage them so they don't waste any more time, effort, or money by trying to pursue something they will never succeed in. He doesn't critique them because he understands that these people will never be able to make it as artists. The people he DOES see with potential he allows them to sing another song, etc. He is harsh, but he does so for a reason.

When you're an amateur performer for an audience on a regular basis, you don't know your own talent because nobodies given you that praise which is why they're still amateur, I study theatre and I've witnessed it loads of times first hand where they discover the type of performer they really are after ages of going down the wrong path.

as soon as the third one, the two brothers said sing by ed sheeran i knew instantly that was what they should've done. it suited them so well!
I liked how the first girl handled it, I think she genuinely got pretty caught up in the moment and thought the riffs would be impressive but she knew to trust Simon and try again, she handled the criticism really well. Simon can tell when someone has chosen what they thought would be an impressive song or an impressive way to sing it vs choosing something that is them and suits their voice well.
