Goodness, that James Dupre guy, I'm not even that into country, but that guy killed it to one of my favorite songs. He just has that classic 80s/90s country ballad tone, along with some pretty smooth runs and riffs in there. Most male country songs aren't hard to sing, which is why you don't often see all the coaches turn around for them, but the tone of his voice. And he looks younger too. I believe he was 25 or 26 here. It's rare to see such depth and development in tone at such a young age.
He ended up winning that season, but his music career never took off. A year later, he went back to being a firefighter. Amazing voice, and so sad that it didn’t work out for him.

And might I say, the guy that did 'Best of You' took a huge gamble and/or uber ballsy move by NOT changing it up, directly putting himself in competition/comparison with a very veteran rock band but bloody hell, he f'ing nailed it!
It's because when he wasn't belting - which he was really good at - he sounded quite flat. You need a special something for that genre and he didn't have it
They should have a thing were they have a celebrity go up there and sing a song but the judges don't know it's a celebrity and they see if everyone turns.

what astounds me is that there are so many people just waiting for their chance. We have too many singers like Kanye who do not deserve to be in the spotlight, but some of these acts just need recognition !!

what astounds me is that there are so many people just waiting for their chance. We have too many singers like Kanye who do not deserve to be in the spotlight, but some of these acts just need recognition !!
