I would like to think I could do DK200, I have ridden a Solo 200 miler on the road, but gravel is a totally different thing. I understand how Katherine was feeling with 40 miles to go. When I rode my 200 miler, the last 30 miles were the hardest, not physically, but mentally.
Mitch Rapp After being bloke-heavy for such a long time it is great to have to awesome female presenters in Katherine and Emma; it really balances out the show, and shows that our sport is a sport for both males and females.
I think Katherine did an awesome job, so positive and upbeat the whole time (that we saw). Good on you for an amazing effort. 200 miles on a nice road with easy conditions would be hard, so completing DK is brilliant!
GCN videos are usually solid, but the cinematic quality here is another step. Maybe it's the distinct change in locale or a different crew; I don't know, but hats off to Kat and the film crew for a visually satisfying encapsulation of endurance.
Adam J. Story, DC Totally, As a bloke you must admit that the show has been bloke-heavy for too long; the introduction of both Katherine and Emma has made the show better.
Being the non-professional cyclist she is, I feel like she has the occasional place in videos, especially like these, where she represents the common man. It would be far less relatable to have Si tell me what to do to train for DK200 than someone who wasn't a top level athlete.
Mo X.X. Katherine, I was out there with you and saw you and the crew several times along the way. Your infectious smile certainly helped to motivate me and I’m certain many others. Congratulations to you for finishing what was one of the more brutal episodes of the DK and thank you for making the trip across the pond to join our uniquely American gravel adventure. Hope to see you again next year!
Make Katherine a regular presenter, she's a natural! This was one of the best GCN videos I've seen, felt really genuine and not as scripted as they usually are. Also, don't be afraid of making your videos a bit longer, they often feel like they rush through it and end far too quickly. Thanks, from a long time subscriber! /antonio
To GCN, this is an outstanding video. To Katherine, your courage and heart are inspiring. I hope GCN gives you a spot for your jersey, and a photo on the wall. And a permanent job...
Katherine, you are amazing! You one of the best presenters on GCN. I finished the DK100 this year and hope to get into the 200 next year. I live in south Kansas and have always ridden in that terrain and wind. My hat is off to you. It took great courage of you to take this on in a public forum--a race in which only half of the participants succeed! You did it! Fantastic! Geoff
GCN has been upping it's game with the Gravel coverage in Morocco and this american adventure. These are world class documentaries. Kudos to Katherine, what a role model. I'm 59 years old and damn, I'm going to have to do the DK 200.
Very well done, Katherine. I'm still working on trying to get past 50 miles so a 200 mile ride is really mindblowing for me. One of GCN's best vids yet.
Absolutely love it. Simply stunning nature shots, accompanied by fitting music, a smiling Kate and friendly faces. So cinematic. That would be a nice short movie or sth... Immediately made me plan to do it the next year.
I've been waiting for this video. Thanks for taking us along on your journey. It adds to the burden of an already difficult ride. I'd love a followup video of you reflecting back on the experience and list of things you did correct in preparing and things you would do different.
MrJonnyjak Second this idea. Would love to hear a follow up and breakdown of the trip once Katherine's had a chance to recover. I've been fascinated since the initial video and want to know more.
Amazing Job Katherine as I said when I saw you cross the finish line live! Huge thumbs up to the GCN crew producing a high grade short video to document this event! IMO if there were video productions of other gravel events done with the quality of the GCN crew did on this one they would be more widely seen and appreciated as there is far more to an event then some snapshots and shaky go pro footage by us amateurs!
Thank you for pulling me through those last 14 miles. If your group hadn't stopped for me, I wouldn't have finished. -Aaron P.S. Probably should've let you cross the line before me
scrooge1913 so glad to see you here! There was no way EVER that we were gonna let you stop with 14 miles to go. Seeing you finish was personally one of my (and the other guys') highlights. Chapeau. K
Congratulations, Katherine, for such an amazing accomplishment! I live within an hour and a half of Emporia and love riding in the Flint Hills. You do a great job showcasing their beauty. And I know how brutal that headwind can be; it can have you crawling. In fact, I've ridden an out and back route and the wind literally changed 180 degrees; had a headwind both directions. I wasn't making it up either, you could see it in the flags. Anyway, great job in with the ride and the video.
I dont even cycle for sports (used to for a short while) but GCN has got me looking around bikeshops and contemplating getting some gear in order. This trail looks both scary and amazing.
Here to totally support Katherine. I watched her Gravel tech video too. Very much want to see more content with her in it, road too! She's really good!
Great vid GCN! You captured the essence of the event... the physical demands and the difficulty of the terrain and the variables that the weather throws at the riders. You also captured the emotional and mental toughness it takes to complete the DK. Kat, you had it all: the mental and the physical. Way to finish! It was great riding with you and many thanks for the banana chips! Sean J.
Congratulations! I'm going to show this to my two young daughters so they can see what amazing things women (as well as men) can achieve. Great video and the whole series has been really interesting
Having ridden the Arizona Challenge twice and supported it once I decided to ride an unsupported 2 day ride to include come dirt roads and some paved about half & half. Challenge was roadie and 325 miles 17,500 ft vertical gain in 24 hours or less. I rode part of the Challenge past Strawberry to General Cook trail dirt road miles and then jumped on dirt for 30 to end the day. I slept 4-5 hours in Camp Verde and rode off on mostly dirt roads for the next 19 hours I rode the Bloody Basin Road in to the Valley of the Sun (Phoenix area). I flatted 4 hours into the road at what was 20 miles into the dirt section and I had that much to do yet before 50 miles of pavement. I started about 2 pm on that never before ridden by me road. Crazy but not unplanned for. I did run out of lights 11 PM about 3 hours before I would get home. The plan was 8-10 pm and I got in about 2 or 3 AM. I would never trade the experience but approximately 280 rugged miles including 14,000 feet of climbing was all I could fit in before I showed up a couple of hours late to work at Bicycle Harbor. I had Wanted to do Crow King but the extra miles and climbing would have taken a 3rd day. I did the ride on a 3 speed bike I modified to take 26" fat tires and put 18 speed set-up. About 1985-86 was the year. I was inspired by Domenic Malvestuto Who raced in Italy for the Army and told me of long 150-80 mile training rides on gravel roads. Domenic as a great help to form a racing team using proven training methods. I met him and worked part time for him about 1983-84 learning to train using fixed gear for early season.
Katherine is absolutely delightful as a presenter.. tough as a nail too.. I couldn’t do the dirty Kansa.. I’m pretty sure I’d give out about halfway😩🚵🏻♂️😵👻
Great Video guys. I did the 200 for the first time this year with a bunch of CX/gravel junkies and your video really shows just how tough this ride is. I'm originally from Manchester so it was nice to see you guys on the side of the road. We're moving back next year so I'm looking forward to searching out some of the crunchy stuff around the UK and Europe. Keep up the brilliant work.
After Paris-Rubaix 2016 back-stage pass that would be the most inspiring cycling video I have seen. I have watched it multiple times and haven’t commented still now. Super effort Katherine and crew.
Fantastic video Katherine! I told all my ridding buddies this weekend I cycled with you, a cycling celebrity, in the DK! Now I am going to share the video with all of them. You did a fantastic job of showing how difficult this ride is, especially the 3rd segment. You are a natural presenter. I hope to see more videos by you! Congrats again!
What a great video!!! Katherine hats off to you. Just finished a 10 hour ride and felt like it was the end. Seeing you doing 20h is a great inspiration. Hope to see you regularly on GCN.
I hope you enjoyed your visit to our state Katherine. The Dirty Kanza is a brutal beauty. Ask Sven Nys and Jens Voigt just how hard it is. Nys DNF'd and it took Jens almost 14 hours to complete it - 95th place I believe
Well yes - that is part of the challenge. You should expect to get at least three flats or more if you ride the DK 200. I always bring four tubes, tire boot and a patch kit when I ride the Flint Hills (too afraid to go tubeless). I believe though that Sven ultimately withdrew because of stomach trouble.
As a Kansan, a high schooler (who placed in this years DK high school race) and the son of a former dirty kanza champion, I can honestly say that it has been awesome watching this race explode from small get together to an international event. I can’t wait to see where this race goes.
Amazing. I've figuratively been where Katherine was at when the ride doesn't seem to end and you just don't have anything left. It was great to see her digging deep and finishing.
Great job Katherine finishing a really tough DK200! Really enjoyed your gravel vids and hope to see lots more of you in this growing sector of cycling that GCN has had the presence of mind to start featuring.
This is my favorite DK200 video ever. Fantastic commentary and music with the video! Emporia is my hometown so it’s awesome to see what out of towners and foreigners think of the flint hills which I grew up seeing every day. Thank you for all the effort to make this video!
If I was Katherine, I'd have to be wondering what my employers were thinking sending a red head to cycle 200+ miles of gravel in the summer sun and drinking pickle juice.
No actually pickle juice will stop muscle cramps almost instantly. As a cyclist who has ridden many 100 mile plus rides I can promise you it can be a lifesaver.
This was inspirational and beautifully produced. Huge congrats on finishing, I’ve watched some vids by people who DNF & it’s heartbreaking. You have so much to be proud of! Congratulations again!
Congratulations Katherine! That was amazing - all due respect to your GCN colleagues, but you are Superwoman! Eager to hear more about the experience once you've recovered and had time to take it in - what worked and what didn't, would you do it again, what would you change. I'll bet that finish line beer went down more easily than pickle juice. #morekatherine
Great ride Katherine! AND a huge THANK YOU to the production team for showing off the beauty of Kansas! We often get overlooked as a place with stunning scenery.... but Kansas has some of the best sunsets :)
GCN have kicked it up a notch with this video. Katherine - you absolutely smashed that ride. Hope to see you presenting more content very soon. You & Emma will make a cracking team!
Absolutely amazinging riding there from Katherine! What a truly great feat to get through that race... It does definately look like a very enjoyable way of seeing the amazing landscape of Kansas but I am not sure how much I could take the pain of being in the saddle for almost a whole day straight! 🤤Katherine was so upbeat through the whole experience and just the relief and happiness of her expression when she crossed the line shows how hard it is to get through the course.😭 I have to say it was very impressive how Katherine didn't really moan about anything even when she was tired or had got short of water.... (not something I am sure her male counterparts would have done) Definately something which is a bit shorter might be in order before going for that beast of a ride...!ĺ😲
I live in Kansas and I'm glad you enjoyed your time here. So when Katherine overhears someone say that Kansas is flat - she can set them straight. Great job.
Would you take on the Dirty Kanza 200?
Global Cycling Network I would like to, one day. Maybe I can finally ride alongside GCN 😄
I would like to think I could do DK200, I have ridden a Solo 200 miler on the road, but gravel is a totally different thing. I understand how Katherine was feeling with 40 miles to go. When I rode my 200 miler, the last 30 miles were the hardest, not physically, but mentally.
Never say never but that's a lot of miles on gravel. Great accomplishment though.
I started cycling last year, and I'm just back from my longest ride, 90kms on tarmac. I'm knackered.
So, the answer is no, I wouldn't. ;-)
The Kansas countryside looks very inviting. 200 may be just too much of good thing though. 100 could be fun.
Katherine deserves a big hug and a Meet the GCN Presenters episode of herself! Come on board full time!
Mitch Rapp After being bloke-heavy for such a long time it is great to have to awesome female presenters in Katherine and Emma; it really balances out the show, and shows that our sport is a sport for both males and females.

It might just be the work of the Dirty Kanza marketing team ;)
and the intro, man...I thought I was watching the beginning of a horror movie
Katherine is a natural presenter. More videos like this.
She is the sunny side of the GCN Road.
Adam J. Story, DC Totally, As a bloke you must admit that the show has been bloke-heavy for too long; the introduction of both Katherine and Emma has made the show better.
Adam J. Story, DC agreed! Articulate and engaging.

Troy History you’re a sad, strange little man. You have my pity.
Katherine's smile after suffering is just priceless
I love the utter lack of egotism. Thanks Katherine for sharing your ride.

Awesome work on the DK100 and fingers crossed for the lottery Geoff!
This just gave me the ‘feels’, magical stuff. Music, camaraderie, bike riding + a sunset. Wow
20 hours on the bike and still smiling! Good work Katherine and respect to all the finishers. And non-finishers too for trying.

I was so relieved when it showed you crossing the finishing line. Great video and outstanding ride
richard knight me too! Katherine
Absolutely love it. Simply stunning nature shots, accompanied by fitting music, a smiling Kate and friendly faces. So cinematic. That would be a nice short movie or sth...
Immediately made me plan to do it the next year.
Katherine has a phenomenonal speaking voice in her voice over. Great coverage and enjoyable to watch. Congrats, girl!
Hey GCN thanks for showing the beauty of wide open middle America to your international audience!
Indeed this makes me want to visit the lesser well known parts of the USA.
Excellent all around, coverage, riding, filming, smiling, EXCELLENT JOB!
Awesome video, great to see more women on the the show, and loving the gravel!
Stephanie Barrier yeah I’m loving the gravel also, it makes me want to speed up my gravel build 🤙🏽

Your comment made me laugh out loud. I'm glad you were prepared! I don't know how I winged it for as long as I did. Thanks so much!
@@gcn That is perhaps the classiest and most sincere replies I have ever seen.
@@gcn what an amazing response. reading that just made me warm inside 😉
I loved the bike packing video I loved this video. This long format is great! More of this please
Congratulations, Katherine, for such an amazing accomplishment!

Couldn't be happier for you! Congrats Katherine, awesome effort!
Katherine is great! I hope she gets to do more presenting work with GCN!
Definetly great video, so good job. I can feel those emotions and atmosphere of that event. Can watch again and again for inspiration. Thank you!
I dont even cycle for sports (used to for a short while) but GCN has got me looking around bikeshops and contemplating getting some gear in order. This trail looks both scary and amazing.
Katherine is bloody awesome!!
19+ hours, 200+ miles, 1/2+ jar of pickle juice, and still she finds the energy to plug the next video. Super bad ass!
Here to totally support Katherine. I watched her Gravel tech video too. Very much want to see more content with her in it, road too! She's really good!

My most favorite GCN video of all time. Great cinematography, sound track, and Katherine is a natural presenter.
Fantastic job Katherine. 200 miles of gravel and still with the winning smile at the end. Props to you
Katherine is great on camera and on the bike. The DK 200 seems like an absolutely brutal ride. Would love yo give it a go.
Katherine and Emma are unbelievably amazing role models for female cyclists, all cyclists really!
It's so great to see these women on the channel. Cycling media is much better for it.
The last bit, at least half my sporting icons are female.
What about Alison!
Yes for all cyclists!
WELL DONE Katherine!! Congatulations on your First Dirty Kanza!
Congratulations! I'm going to show this to my two young daughters so they can see what amazing things women (as well as men) can achieve. Great video and the whole series has been really interesting
Maninder Murfin that's SO awesome.

Katherines experience is unbelievably well presented by the production team. That emotional sigh at 11:33 was felt through the screen.

elbowrinkles I heard Sven had some trouble with flats. That flint rock can be sharp! All part of the game out here on KS gravel

One of the best videos on GCN, bar none. What a story. Well done.
I felt the genuine experience of the dirty kanza from this
Awesome video. I want to ride gravel all the time now! Well done Katherine and please come back for more videos!!!
Amazing. I've figuratively been where Katherine was at when the ride doesn't seem to end and you just don't have anything left. It was great to see her digging deep and finishing.
Best GCN event video I can remember. Awesome!
What a tremendous effort! And what a smiley person. Well done Katherine - I a very impressed!
Thanks for hosting us in your awesome town!
Great job, I’m sure you will look back on this for many years with pride.
Never had more respect for someone I don't know than I do now. CHAPEAU!
What an amazing video, love the b-roll shots you chose. A great and charismatic rider as well!!! Super awesome accomplishment!
This was absolutely awesome. I want to see more of Katherine suffering on gravel! Or Lasty suffering on climbs.
What a girl... What a presenter... What an achievement... I was so with her, every pedal turn and swig of pickle juice... Bravo!
If I was Katherine, I'd have to be wondering what my employers were thinking sending a red head to cycle 200+ miles of gravel in the summer sun and drinking pickle juice.
That they hadn't thought through their decision?
Global Cycling Network I'd be thinking more along the lines that they didn't like me very much.
Michael McDermott why, if you enjoy gravel this must be great fun
the "pickle juice" thing is total bunk. if you need electrolytes there are much more efficient ways to get them - easier to carry, easier to ingest
No actually pickle juice will stop muscle cramps almost instantly. As a cyclist who has ridden many 100 mile plus rides I can promise you it can be a lifesaver.
Exhilarating content, great production and a big congratulations.
This was inspirational and beautifully produced. Huge congrats on finishing, I’ve watched some vids by people who DNF & it’s heartbreaking. You have so much to be proud of! Congratulations again!
Her smile and laughter is just capturing
Congratulations Katherine! That was amazing - all due respect to your GCN colleagues, but you are Superwoman! I'll bet that finish line beer went down more easily than pickle juice. #morekatherine
Great work on both the ride and the presenting. Such a natural manner.
What an absolute trooper!! Well done Katherine!! Glad to see all the hard work in the lead up paid off!!
Katherine great piece, love the fact you always have a smile on your face. Come in GCN more videos by Katherine.
Best video of the DK to date. Great film, music, and commentary. Great job Catherine and GCN.
Great ride Katherine! AND a huge THANK YOU to the production team for showing off the beauty of Kansas! We often get overlooked as a place with stunning scenery.... but Kansas has some of the best sunsets :)
Congrats Kat, you rock girl , we need to see more of you .
Love K's personality and presentation style. Great video like always!
GCN have kicked it up a notch with this video. Katherine - you absolutely smashed that ride. Hope to see you presenting more content very soon. You & Emma will make a cracking team!
So cinematic, hats off to the crew as well.
Katherine, outstanding job! Natural presenter, really entertaining video I must say.
Katherine did an amazing job of presenting! I would love to see more from her! Well done!

I live in Kansas and I can't believe you did the best race here! So wish I could have seen you!
You're lucky to have such amazing riding there!
Well done!!! I used to live in Kansas back in the 80s - the headwinds are no joke!
Wow. That was amazing Katherine is incredible. Video production was top notch
Way to go, Katherine! So collected & courteous each interview. Seemed hard to believe you suffered so. A gentlewoman even amidst a brutal ride.
Well done Katherine. What an amazing achievement. Chapeau.
More Katherine, she did a great job! She is a natural.
What a presenter in the US! Long, strong beauty who love gravel riding! Welocome Katherine!
This was as good a video as I think GCN has ever produced. Music, video, editing, content. Nailed it! well done.
Amazing ride Katherine. Love your work!
A wonderful video by GCN and a fantastic ride by Katherine!! Congratulations Katherine, very well done indeed! A big thumbs up.
Amazing T.V quality production and a natural presenter, hope to see more of her on GCN soon.
Massive congratulations on your achievement, you did extremely well.
I had no interest in riding gravel until I saw this, now I want to get a gravel to try this!
Amazing video, beautifully filmed! You go girl!!
From the bike packing video to this, the GCN videos just keep being fantastic. Great job everyone. Awesome content!
I live in Kansas and I'm glad you enjoyed your time here. So when Katherine overhears someone say that Kansas is flat - she can set them straight. Great job.
More from Katherine! She was awesome. Great riding!
Congrats Katherine!! Love to see more of you and gravel on GCN!
