i was a computer techician for a while after i walked into a local store and asked a guy behind the desk (who turned out to be the CEO if his little franchise). it was a lot of fun, really relaxed, and really a clean atmosphere. i got to dip my feet in professionalism and i got to sit around in a store outside of San Francisco, CA. with the bay at arm's length, i stayed there for about 6 more months (until school started). i now work at a winery and a retirement home. the winery is gorgeous

Thank you Kripp! I watched your videos/stream for a long time now, but never felt the need to comment, but this was an A-grade video. Being jobless is a problem, that sadly, a lot of us have and the advice you just gave is one of the most important things to understand for someone without major connections. Even just walking into the place, if possible (like a store or something) and asking them for an interview works well. Just don't be one of many anonymous guys in a letter or internetform.

  • @daryontube

Actually, i think it is a nice advice. I'm a computer engeneer and unless you get expertise in a specific field, it is like Kripp says, you will not be different than any other person applying for the job. Most of us start as just kids who love computers but don't know shit, doing something different is a good start.

  • @Saacius

This is good advice for everyone. From the sound of you got extremely lucky. A degree doesn't entitle you to a job. Take what you can get, and if something better comes along, than move on.

  • @Sajjuuuk

my first job (non-sucky job) started when I first volunteered at a library. Did that for like 1-2 months, a few hours a week, got good at it, so when they wanted to hire someone it was pretty much a no-brainer, I already had the skills, they already knew I was a pleasant person to work with. If you're not working right now anyways, volunteer a little at a place you'd genuinely enjoy working at, if you're good at it then transitioning into a paying position is smooth.

Kripp, you should make a video about situational awareness, because so many players lack it in video games. I just picked up Halo 4 and I have never ever played a Halo game before, and I went into multiplayer and immediately started getting 20+ kill games with 5 or less deaths, and I've seen so many people I can just walk right up to and melee them in the back because they lack awareness.

As someone who has worked both sides of the hiring process, I can tell you that few things are more important than the desire to be in the specific position advertised (rather than just looking for a paycheck), obvious willingness to learn from the ground up (rather than hiding behind certificates and degrees to avoid adapting), and a drive to succeed. If you sought me out, specifically, to ask for a job in my shop rather than responding to an ad, you are far far more likely to get an interview.

What Kripp does, a lot of people already do except with cars. What would make his method better is if you actually searched the area for jobs that relate to your interest, like typing in "Computers" "Electronics" "Cars" "Repair Shop" or W/E, and then browsing the map for what came up.

nice vid. It all comes down to numbers and persistence in the end. If you want a good job just got to keep on trying man. Send out resumes, make sure you are constantly improving/updating your resume and your interview skills, learn the common things asked for that position, do some side projects/gigs that would increase your chances (also a great subject to talk about during interviews). And don't expect to find dream job right away, it will take many tries :)

Time saving. Instead of going to every store you see, not accounting for the ones you might have missed, walking in, asking, coming back out and getting on your bike. You could look around, see everything, make the calls straight from home, no walking in or walking out, and hopefully get a job.

I've hired approx 12 people in the last 5 years. Every single person I hired I had some sort of personal connection with. Not to say that I knew them, but I knew someone that knew them who referred them to me. This was always a huge bunch because I always made it clear only refer people you'd state your rep on.

  • @extion
    @extion 12 років тому

I've always done the same type of thing when looking for work. I don't understand how people can say it's so difficult to find work. Follow these easy steps.
    1. Print out 50 resumes
    2. Drive around your town/city and drop off a resume at every single place you think you would enjoying working at, regardless if you think they're hiring or not.
    3. Wait at home for calls. If you get no calls within 7 days, repeat the process.
    It's just that fucking simple.

Looking for your first job before the internet was just responding to ads on the newspaper or running up to the nearest shop and ask if you could have an interview.

I have hired a man who was given the runaround by HR, but he had the audacity to walk into the offices politely demanding an interview. The audacity of that stranger was, ironically, impressive and a little amusing, so I gave him the job. Not everyone has it in them for that kind of behaviour, but the worse they can do is say no or throw you out. Give a shot. Never know what could happen. :)
