I think the Haas DTS episode sums it up perfectly where he celebrates finishing the Russian GP and beating 2 cars that DNF'd
"F*cking hell, thats why everyone hates you" - guenther 😆
And then he had the audacity to cry about getting "cancelled" after the war started
@@rosarioyeen1371 in?, hes not really wrong to be honest
@@D_Alleyne2005 _"to be honest"_ he was dropped because he was totally shit, he couldn't match his teammate, he failed to work with the HAAS mechanics, the sponsors fled, he became a joke and he was destroying the team's reputation.
Mazepin is the definition of "Our expectations were low, but HOLY F*CK"
Exactly what I was thinking
Mazespun!
Nikita Mazepin was truly the whole package. If he was only a bad driver, that would be one thing. But he was a terrible person, a pay driver, impossible to work with, unwilling to take advice to try and improve, stupidly aggressive, horribly slow, and had zero car control skills, running people off the track and spinning every 5 seconds. It's unbelievable how badly he screwed EVERYTHING up.
Not to mention the fact that he thought Mick had a car advantage, even tho Haas was contractually obligated to have the cars be even. Even Nikita’s dad got in on it, saying that if Haas keeps giving Mick an advantage (which they weren’t) he would pull his sponsorship.
So to add on to what you said, he also couldn’t accept that he was just sh*thouse.
let's not forget stubborn and stupid.
Also, it didn't really make a difference if Mick actually had a car advantage over him. The 2021 Haas was a shitbox, so it basically meant Mick was 19th and he was 20th
It also says a lot that in 2022 preseason testing it was more of the same with him and when he got sacked, KMag stepped in his car and put it in the points in his first race by finishing 5th.
I really wonder, how much better the car could have been in 2021… Mick probably drove that thing at 80%, thinking he must be close to the limit as he's beating his teammate every time.
But thats a completely different car though. 5heres literally no relation
@@thatonenigeriansformula i think he means compared to the testing, mazepin drove in catalunya remember
@@racer501_sb i dont think he did any the first couple days of testing because of reliability
@@racer501_sb abd haas also brang a almost entierly new car to bahrain vs spain
I love how he spent so much time complaining about how his car is different instead of actually trying to get faster.
Exactly he spent too much time complaining instead of improving his driving. When teams see this there's no way he is getting a ride ever again and that's without the sanctions imposed on Russia across all sports.
It’s easier to complain than actually trying to help
The most hilarious thing was that the Mazipins tried suing the team for "wrongful termination" even though Nikita's performance in 2021 and the fact that both Nikita and his father were hit with sanctions after Russia's invasion of Ukraine meant that Gene Haas and Gunther Steiner made the right decision
The sanctions also mean that Haas don't have to pay back a single cent because the Mazepins are enemies of the West.
I mean it is a breach of contract from Haas' part, unless there's a performance clause for him. I would've sued as well, if I was Mazepin.
@@toni8003 accurate but at the same time, the sanctions supersede any lawsuit because Haas would be in violation if they tried to pay, and nothing will kill a Formula 1 team faster than the wrath of the US Government
@@toni8003 I'm pretty sure the invasion would satisfy a force majeure clause lol
I mean if your driver legally cannot enter half the countries you're going to race in what do you expect Haas to do
And don't forget he finished 21st in the championship out of a field of 20 drivers.
And he ended behind a guy with a permanent hand injury.
@@julianracer1235 and he only ran twice that year while Nikita ran the entire season
Felt bad for Gunther more than Mazepin in all honesty, he is such a great guy on and off the track
He does seem like he would be a cool guy. Pretty funny too
Gunther might not tolerate BSes but Mazepin is multiple times above that
And also probably hurt Mick as well since really Mick could've used a mentor as a team member rather than a crappy rookie.
Gunther has an amazing personality, good lad
Haas Boss:f o c k he sbinalla
Great video as always, Darian!
Been waiting for the Busts series to expand to F1 for some time and it's well worth the wait.
Crofty's spin off comment basically summed up his career in one phrase.
His best commentary in years.
All he had to do was not be a dirty driver and a groper. Yet, he failed at that…
And adding insult to injury, his dad is friends with Putin, I believe.
The only good thing about Mazepin is that he has crashed less than Mick. So, there’s that.
At least when he crashes it wasn't nearly as expensive seriously how can people say mazepin is a bust but not mick glad they're both gone can't wait to see kmag amd hulk this year
The F1 Version of Jon Herb
Mick Schumacher is so damn overrated it ain't even funny. Ppl cry at Mazepin for being talentless and being a rich-kid but Mick's dad is Michael Schumacher and he crashed more than Mazepin. Just another classic case of a fanbase making no sense.
@@Austin_Windric apparently every nascar fan recognizes this
Funny
@@wordlesslfiddling Mick was almost a lap ahead of Mazepin in some races. He is in a different level compared to Nikita. Also, Mick was up to pace with Magnussen for most of the year and I believe beat him in their head to head comparison at the end of the year.
My ideas for f1 busts:
Lucas di Grassi
Nerson Piquet Jr.
Chales Pic
Jolyon Palmer
Mazepin is the only F1 driver within the last 23 years that I genuinely think my sim racer ass could do better than.
defining as unlikeable is a definite truth. you know you're not liked when you manage to anger the entire grid in some way over the course of half a season.
A conversation I had while introducing my friend to NASCAR
My friend (as he had for most of the drivers): "Explain him to me in NASCAR terms."
Me: "I guess, Maze-spin is basically the Quintimidator."
My friend (catching on instantly for once): "Ahhhhhhhhh, gotcha."
Don't insult Quin Houff like that.
We finally got F1 busts!!! Now you need to do Nicholas Latifi and Esteban Gutierrez.
Forget about him... Gutierrez was a shame too
@esmn some points GOATifi done at least
@ESMN The 🐐
I honestly wouldn't call Latifi a bust. His 2020 season was ok, his 2021 season saw clear improvement but 2022, he lost it for some reason and couldn't perform save for Britain and Japan
Maybe put in Bruno Senna in there, considering the high expectations that came with his name?
In 2018 HAAS had almost cracked the top 3. 4 years later they got all kinds of problems, drivers, sponsors, and they're one of the worst teams in F1 at this point
The Hulk wont let this go through
Not surprised to see Mazepin on this first video expanding the Busts series into F1. It's like he knew he was hated by many in the sport, but he didn't care.
In terms of future videos, there are quite a few suggestions that spring to mind, Stoffel Vandoorne, for example, seemed to have it all going for him by winning multiple junior titles and seemed to show reasonably well in McLaren in F1, both in his unexpected debut in Bahrain 2016 and his first full time season in 2017, the highlight being an impressive Q2 lap in the wet at Monza to progress to Q3. However, his 2018 season was when his momentum in F1 ran out of steam. It was painful to watch, here was a guy who was winning everything in sight in junior categories, but driving the 2018 McLaren (which wasn't the easiest car to drive), saw him out qualified by team mate Fernando Alonso for every race in 2018. By the end of 2018, he looked like someone who had the stuffing knocked out of him.
Since then, he has rebuilt his reputation and in 2021 became Formula E champion.
We got an F1 Busts video, we got an F1 Busts video!
An F1 Gone Too Soon video might come next. Or maybe it’s F2.

There’s a dozen drivers that deserve their own video…
Really cool you've brought this 'Busts' series into F1. Got quite a few ideas for future episodes; Stoffel Vandoorne, Scott Speed, Jolyon Palmer, Ricardo Rosset and Pastor Maldonado. Maybe Mick Schumacher too but I wonder if that would be too early to call him a bust.
He should definitely cover the only man in F1 history to have a rule named after him: Jean-Denis Deletraz.
He was a driver who was so inept behind the wheel of an F1 car that he routinely set qualifying times so slow (but still made the race) that they actually passed a rule (107% qualifying rule) to prevent drivers like him from ever making it to sunday afternoon again.
@@Hammerhead547 Is he the guy who got a DNQ, DQ and DNF in the same race?
p.s Michael Andretti was a bigger F1 bust than Mazespin!
@@ray.shoesmith that was Hans Heyer in '77
@@faithfulinjesus 👍
Nicholas Latifi would be a shoe-in for this series.
As much he is from a same country as my parents were, I personally think he is the worst F1 driver from Russia. Even my dad admits it. Other Russian drivers prior like Petrov or Kvyat brought better results than him. Kvyat found himself racing at NASCAR last year. He may had bad luck at Cup series but the Xfinity race at Roval racing for Sam Hunt's 26, he finished 15th.
Even Sergey did better than mazeshit
Another suggestion I have is Ricardo Rosset. While not showing standout "he's going to be a world champion" potential, he nonetheless showed reasonably well in categories like Formula 3 and especially F3000 (sort of the F2 of its day), where he finished runner up in 1995. While his team mate from F3000 (who also edged him out to the F3000 title in 1995), Vincenzo Sospiri had to wait until 1997 to get his F1 debut, more of which in a bit, Rosset got his F1 break in 1996 with Footwork Arrows, paired with ex-Benneton driver Jos Verstappen (father of Max). To say the least, it didn't go well, while Verstappen was setting some eye catching performances, like setting multiple fastest laps in the wet of Brazil, Rosset was frequently towards the back of the field. Worse still, despite making the grid for every race, with Tom Walkinshaw buying the team during 1996, it meant that no development work would take place on the 1996 car. By the end of 1996, both Verstappen and Rosset were out, replaced by two new drivers to the team. One of them was Brazilian "pay driver" (though to be fair he wasn't too bad) Pedro Diniz and their lead driver was 1996 World Champion, Damon Hill (which is a story in itself).
Rosset appeared to find salvation at the brand new Mastercard Lola team, alongside his old F3000 team mate Vincenzo Sospiri. However, Mastercard, the title sponsor of the team, forced the team to rush the design and build of an F1 car for 1997, rather than what the team wanted, which was to be ready for 1998. The result was that neither Rosset nor Sospiri were even close to beating the 107% of pole time in order to qualify for their first race as a team, the Australian Grand Prix. After this abysmal failure, Mastercard yeeted out of the scene and Lola were left high and dry, not making a single start in 1997.
Meanwhile the once great Tyrrell team were struggling with a lack of funds and were purchased by British American Tabaco, BAT, before the 1998 season got underway. As the teams previous drivers, Mika Salo and Jos Verstappen were out of the team so two new drivers were needed. One of the drivers hired was at the time hyped as potentially the best driver to come from Japan, Toranasasuke "Tora" "Tiger" Takagi, the other was, well can you guess??
So disgusted with the decision to hire Rosset, team founder Ken Tyrrell quit his team before the season started. Worse, although he out qualified Takagi on occasions, an improvement in that sense I guess, he failed to qualify 5 times in 1998. In the second of these, in Monaco, the team were so livid that they swapped the first and last letters of his name on his paddock scooter to spell out the word "Tosser".
Rosset never returned to F1 after 1998 and saw out his racing in his native Brazil, winning a local Posche Cup Series before he hung up his helmet
Rosset defo needs an entry here... especially with his no-brainer move in Spa 1998, trying to punch through the crashfest ahead of him, he ran in full speed into it.
@parrotantics2046 to be fair, on that one, there was blinding spray and the pile up was happening right in front of him. What's more, in such wet conditions like those that day, applying the brakes can make little difference in whether an accident occurs or not. It would have only led to the front tyres aquaplaning (the tread being unable to clear all the water and the car toboggans like a canoe on top of the water, in other words the driver is no longer in control). His blaming the team, however, doesn't make sense
@@SiVlog1989 Tried to watch the replay couple times, and it looked like either he slammed and locked the brakes, or went full throttle. He wasn't slowing down at all.
@parrotantics2046 he probably panicked when he saw what happened right in front of him. Some drivers, even very good drivers, have panicked when an accident develops right in front of them, leaving them with nowhere to go, kind of like The Big One at Talladega for example
When you look at his F1 career you probably think.. Maybe Yuji Ide and Taki Inoue weren't so bad.
Nah, Yuji makes Nikita look like prime Michael Schumacher. Taki on the other hand wasn't really that bad of a driver. The dude was simply a backmarker driver who had to deal with the 283737373772 issues those cars had back in those days (think a 2010-14 backmarker team performance combined with Fernando Alonso's 2022 mechanical reliability).
At least Inoue and Ide seem like decent people and not complete arseholes like Mazepin is
One thing to note is that Mazepin's contract wasn't only terminated due to the controversy surrounding Russia, but also because his dad's money was blocked, as it was suspected that they were associates of Vladamir Putin (if I remember correctly).
Nikita Mazepin essentially became a "pay driver" who couldn't pay, nor drive.
He made even Giovinazzi and Latifi rant on the radio. The two calmest and most peaceful individuals in motorsport. That says enough 😅
Thanks for the vid, sir! Despite all the elitism that turns American racing fans off from F1, it's good to see F1-related content that showcases the drama, excitement, and occasional derpity-derp-derpness F1 often experiences.
Didn't expect to see such content on this channel, but definitely like the video😁
Ooooohhhhhh this is going to be spicy for sure. Nikita isn’t that bad on F2, but his antics don’t win any heart. Basically he was the worst driver on the grid with the worst car of the season at F1.
He won’t return to F1 for sure and we won’t miss him.
Also, since you starting these F1 Busts series, Scott Speed might become the first ever person to have both NASCAR Busts and F1 Busts video
This is great! Hope we can get more F1 content in the future!

I truly didn't believe Mazepin was as bad as people said he was (as a driver), especially when one considers that he was a second off teammate Mick Schumacher and Schumacher had more retirements (DNF's). Then Magnussen came back in less than a week's notice and destroyed Mick when it came to pace. Then I was okay "okay yeah; Mazepin sucked."
He lost his ride for reasons unrelated to him but yeah, Mazespin was a big disappointment. Thank goodness Magnussen got a second look.
Out of all things to get kicked out of the sport, his Dad…
That’s a sad way to get kicked out of the ride and sport
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT he deserved
@@HanTheNascarGuy oh yeah he never deserved an F1 ride to begin with, but I’m not a fan of the way he was out. He had nothing to do with the war
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT if he was worth giving a seat to they would’ve tried to keep him. The only reason he had a seat was his father’s money. Once they lost that they had no reason to keep him around.
He lost his seat because he’s terrible and no longer brought money to the team, not because he’s Russian.
If anything, the war hurt Haas because it lost them their major financial backing.
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT Mazespin's dad is an oligarch, his dad has connection links with Putin and he had a meeting with Putin on the first day of the invasion of Ukraine

Great video… thanks for that!
After they dropped mazepin and his fathers minions of sus company. Next year Haas scored pts with Schumacher and Magnussen with good improvements in constructor standings. Now they got a stable title sponsor in moneygram experience drivers with the hulk and mag. Maybe this now the American team (until Andretti comes in) can propel upwards. These last few years with Haas were frustrating but I think this a turnaround much needed.

@@Jackson-gt9qdJessie ewuji’s biggest enemy
He had solid results in the feeder series (runner-up in GP3 in 2018 behind the late Anthoine Hubert, and was in the title fight late in the 2020 F2 season), which is how he got his superlicense in the first place (for those not familiar with F1, there's a very strict system to be allowed to compete requiring to be pretty much a top driver in your previous racing series for at least the year before entering F1, 3 years at max). But in 2021 he had one of the worst rookie seasons in recent F1 history, and before he could redeem himself and grow as a driver Russia invaded Ukraine and he got sacked.
Tbh, I think he could've perfectly developed into a good back marker or even a solid driver for a midfield team (such as Lance Stroll). But after what happened, combined with his background and attitude problems, I don't think he'll be back in anything F1-related.
At least Jesse is a nice guy😂

Great video man! Maybe we can get one on Goatifi next.
Regrettably, one well known driver on both sides of the Atlantic who could be considered an F1 Bust is Michael Andretti. His Indycar career is Hall of Fame worthy, both as a team owner and as a driver. However, when he went to F1 at the same time as Nigel Mansell went the opposite way to fill the seat vacated by Michael Andretti at Newman/Haas in Indycar, sadly Michael Andretti had too many mistakes and crashes in a McLaren that Ayrton Senna took to 5 wins and runner up to Alain Prost in the 1993 F1 season. In 13 starts he scored 0 wins, 1 podium, an average finish of 7.3, only 7 points scored in that time and an abysmal 7 DNF's. By the time he recorded a podium in Monza, even he knew that he wasn't going to see out the season. By the following race in Portugal, he was replaced by McLaren test driver, and future World Champion, Mika Hakkinen
We’re here before the FOM tries to take the video down
I actually feel bad for him. Not on the racing side because he caused a lot of damage, but because of his family’s connections and I hate that he got kicked out for something he couldn’t control.
I felt bad for him until i remembered who he was and his personality
he still sexually harassed a girl
I mean his family's connections also got him into f1 in the first place.
He was on his way out. He had no business whatsoever in an F1 car. Absolutely woefully terrible. Would've been the same in a Mercedes
@@Dee-mm1bt I felt bad until I found out he and his dad was in the same room as Putin 💀
Even if it was Mazepin. Seeing a Haas go off at Bahrain after 2020 really made my heart sink
Mazepin improved, but was not on the level of Schumacher. He became more humble during the season (at least in front of the mic) and grew as a sportsman. The car was tough on both drivers, very unpredictable, but Nikita could cope with it less than his teammate. Agression was over the limit in his defense, mainly against Schumacher. It's good that his carreer here stopped, he should develop and race further elsewhere.
He can't race anywhere outside of russia again because the FiA passed a rule in 2022 that prevents drivers who hold a russian racing license from participating in any FiA sanctioned series, I don't know about series like IMSA or IndyCar but I imagine they've done the same.
It was part of their effort to sanction russia over the ukraine invasion.
@@Hammerhead547 how did he race in Asian Le Mans series earlier this year then?

He probably finagled a racing license out of one of the former central asian soviet republics. I'd say that azerbaijan was probably the national racing body that granted it to him because his dad has strong ties there.
@@Hammerhead547 he raced under a neutral flag AFAIK.
i truthfully think mazepin came into f1 at a bad time, if he stayed in f2 for another year or 2 to get used to the cars i honestly think he would have been a lot better, and coming into your first f1 season with the slowest car that's also impossible to keep straight didn't help, but its also debatable if had he stayed in f2 he'd be racing in f1 because of the whole Ukraine thing
Love seeing you branch out from just doing NASCAR vids. Would love to see more coverage of other series!
The best part is there is even more that he did that wasn't in this, like when he pulled a ridiculous block while Vettel was doing a hot lap in qualy at Zandvoort, despite radio from his team warning him well on advance and counting him down. There was also Jenson Button's reaction to him passing everyone in the qualifying cue approaching the line in Bahrain, just to instantly spin in turn one and destroy the lap for everyone who he just passed in cue.
A "spin-off" joke by Crofty's son is a gem
far cry how FIA being run. FIA stripped Yuji Ide of his super license for his multiple on-track excursions in 2006. They wouldn't do the same to Mazepin because his father brought money to the sport. F1 is no longer pinnacle of racing. It's whoever got the most money to buy a ride.
Do Brandon Hartley next please.
Collab with Josh Revell
I don't think Brendon's a bust by any means. He was simply a WEC driver thrown in without any expectatives bc Red Bull had literally no juniors ready after prompting Gasly and firing Kvyat, so they needed someone to fill in both in late '17 and all of 2018. Also, he was extremely unlucky.

I remember watching the first F1 race of 2022 a year ago and being astonished at how much better the Haas team was doing with Magnusson than with Mazepin. I believe Kevin qualified and finished in the top 10. Now, a year later, Mick is gone. I forget who replaced him though. Was it Niko? The thing is, if he did what he did to a woman in United States, he’d be arrested
Not to mention if it was any other profession than F1 He'd be fired
Mazepin's run was a wild thing. Not only because of his talent, but also (specially) due to the guy being a piece of shit before F1 (even though the girl thing is a very grey area as both of them actually said it was consensual, even though the girl has since indirectly suggested that it wasn't 100% consensual) but also due to his father being an oligarch with strong links to Vladimir Putin (that in fact being the reason Haas parted ways with Uralkali and sacked Nikita). Combine that with how bad his year was due to his (lack of) performance, some of his on-track shenanigans and the fact that Haas was in a rebuilding year where they were preparing for 2022 (hence the lack of development and how far they were behind everyone else).
Tbh, had the war not occurred I think that, overtime, he could've developed into at least a solid middle of the pack guy (or at least a quality backmarker). Not to mention that Mick Schumacher would probably still be in F1 as Magnussen wouldn't have come in.
PS: As a F1 fand and an amateur writer for some websites, I did a couple articles with a series like this, based on your NASCAR busts series. You have to do one of these for Yuji Ide
Here before F1 has the video removed.
The only defense for Mazepin was that the Haas VF-21 was absolute dogshite, probably the 2nd slowest car of this set of regulation just above Williams FW-42. That was my only gripe about all this, because Mick deserved better car for being the reigning F2 champion at that time.
In case anyone need a refresher, Haas VF-21 was an "evolution" of the already bad Haas VF-20, which was riddled with drag coefficient those of a truck and suspensions that acted depending on its mood to begin with. Haas was forced to "reuse" the car for 2021 so that they could save money for the development of the eventual VF-22 with the new technical regulations. Coupled with cost-cutting technical regulations of 2021 that requires teams to trim off small parts of their floor and the already bad car became even worse....
maybe it's the car; maybe it's the driver.. but all I know is, Yuji Ide at least was able to get around the track without spinning.
Charles Leclerc summed up MazesBin in one radio message:
"Mazepin will never change. A shame..."

DO RIO HARYANTO NEXT; BIG PROSPECT FOR INDONESIA IN GP2, JUST NEVER WORKED OUT
Just an average F1 driver in a weak team - still far from such drivers as Alex Yoong, Jean-Denis Deletraz or Juji Ide. And still far from the biggest bust of 2010th, which in my opinion, is Esteban Gutiérrez. Not a single solid performance for 3 full seasons in F1, whereas even Latifi and Ericsson had good races.
