Great video! It's fantastic to see the grizzlies bought in to sharing the ball and minutes. It's also beautiful to see the ultimate pros use the foundational layer of the read and react offense, especially the circle movement which is always a recipe to exploit weakside defenders that focus too much on the ball.

This is similar to a flow offence. Something common in Australia. E.g. “the Melbourne Tigers Shuffle” where all 5 players are moving and any player can initiate the offence. This is something Josh Giddey mastered as a junior player.
I watched Hanno Möttölä's games at late 90's, and i still can't believe the 3rd Finnish NBA pro is freeking head coach instead of player. Greatest Finnish baller is still Teemu Rannikko because he was a playmaker. :)
Great video. I've only gotten to watch the Griz a few times this year but hopefully more in 2025. I've noticed that on cuts, oftentimes the passer doesn't hit the first passing option to a cutter. But when that doesn't happen, the cutter continues a straight line (usually) a step or two, and then gets hit with a pass. Very disciplined cutters (and passers) who keep going and don't give up on cuts to the basket when that first option isn't there. Great cutters are like gold in the NBA. They also helps keep that weakside defense in stress.
@@joeschmoe2011 you couldn't have said it better: the best teams like Celtics and Thunder (but the Cavs with Atkinson too) have some of the most active cutters in the league. Especially OKC, their playbook is full of plays with tons of backdoor cuts often done by Jalen Williams, but you can see players like Aaron Wiggins and Kenrich Williams do the same

Anyway there were stretches where Desmond Bane had to bring the ball down the floor. And about any defender can turn him 3 or 4 times before he gets to half court. It really slowed down the offense - no long passes, nothing really where your PG could get any of those looks down floor. It would have been nice to have Tyus Jones back tonight. Fortunately my local channels get me Memphis and OKC so there will be a lot of good basketball yet to come.

The paradox of NBA basketball is that defense is much worse than in Europe during regular season but suddenly become slightly better than in Europe during the playoffs. So i'm not sure Lisalo's basketball will do better than Mike D'Antony in the end, we'll see.
The NBA regular season is too physically demanding players to play at 100% at every game. Doing so would ensure injury. The solution could be to reduce the amount of games but that’s a huge amount of revenue loss for teams and the nba. Another solutions is expanding the roster or shortening the game time.
@@akshayrbhavsar I'd opt for a league expansion in the near future: this way, they can slightly reduce the number of games per team without reducing the league total amount of games per season, then the players' talent would be more distributed among teams, and the league market would expand in other cities. It would benefit the TV ratings too: people (like me) would be excited to watch new teams, that would mean new coaches and new players into the league too

I'm not sure about the "copied", he definitely embraced some Martinez's concepts, but he did that with other coaches too. But it's pretty common among coaches: Steve Kerr took a lot from Phil Jackson and Popovich, the Spurs coach took a lot from Obradovic, now Spanoulis has taken a lot from Obradovic, Bartzokas and Jasikevicius, and so on

Not solved. I grew up knowing the run and gun offense only works if the other team gets sucked in. 6-6 in the last twelve games and the wins have come against porter teams and they've lost to all the good teams. Fact
It's a provocative title, basketball isn't solved and never will be, nor should we expect a team like Memphis to only have good stints during the season. The Grizzlies system has some principles of run&gun though, but it's adapted to the modern skillsets and knowledge; if the opposing team slows the tempo then there are infinite possible adjustments to do
Interesting stuff but you should consider getting a real logo. Looks obviously AI and if you want a good logo to fade in, it can't be random like that because there just isn't a rhyme or reason and super awkward to watch fade in.
I honestly like the logo despite it being made by AI, it has a lot of the modern characteristics I like. It's not perfect, I know, but as of now I'm a single individual with a very low budget, so I'm happy with it. Thanks for the advice, though
His offense is nothing, but really nothing special to the euroleague and for NBA at all. What are you talking about? 98% of the teams play this kind of content. Nothing special to Stagger screens or ghost screens, screen adjustments, 45cuts. 😂 What is pretty visbible: his teams are sprinting, I mean they are flying on their breaks. I have seen some of his clinics. He really knows what he is talking about. His communication is outstanding, clean and calm. Team chemistry is the key. His players trust him. There is no eye rolling, no bad shit. They trust him.
Like you said, he probably didn't invent anything (just like any modern coach in basketball, there are so many concept already invented that now it's almost impossible coming out with something new) but he's definitely a creative mind: most of the times, the creative person doesn't need to discover anything, they just have to re-arrange what's already there in the most brilliant way. His uniqueness is in the combination of the concept he utilizes, they're all coherent to his modern and super effective basketball philosophy. It's similar to what other great all-time coaches did in the history of the game

@the.eurostep He's a good coach, no doubt about it. But the best? Two seasons ago his team was a big favorite to beat Ulm in the German Finals and Isalo was outcoached by Anton Gavel (and lost 1-3). In my opinion it is important to be able to manage (or let's say to control) the tempo of the game. Considering this aspect Isalo's teams aren't versatile enough.
@@tschebyschew23 That's one way to view it; I think Bonn was the big favorite also because of Iisalo's work through the season, when they signed him no one expected him to reach the national finals in 2 season. And 2 years ago he was just 40, I know Gavel is younger but Iisalo still has a lot of time to get better at managing some kind of situations

The Grizzlies system has some principles of run&gun though, but it's adapted to the modern skillsets and knowledge; if the opposing team slows the tempo then there are infinite possible adjustments to do

Interesting stuff but you should consider getting a real logo. Looks obviously AI and if you want a good logo to fade in, it can't be random like that because there just isn't a rhyme or reason and super awkward to watch fade in.
I honestly like the logo despite it being made by AI, it has a lot of the modern characteristics I like. It's not perfect, I know, but as of now I'm a single individual with a very low budget, so I'm happy with it. Thanks for the advice, though

I have seen some of his clinics. He really knows what he is talking about. His communication is outstanding, clean and calm.
Team chemistry is the key. His players trust him. There is no eye rolling, no bad shit.

Like you said, he probably didn't invent anything (just like any modern coach in basketball, there are so many concept already invented that now it's almost impossible coming out with something new) but he's definitely a creative mind: most of the times, the creative person doesn't need to discover anything, they just have to re-arrange what's already there in the most brilliant way. His uniqueness is in the combination of the concept he utilizes, they're all coherent to his modern and super effective basketball philosophy. It's similar to what other great all-time coaches did in the history of the game

@the.eurostep He's a good coach, no doubt about it. But the best? Two seasons ago his team was a big favorite to beat Ulm in the German Finals and Isalo was outcoached by Anton Gavel (and lost 1-3).
In my opinion it is important to be able to manage (or let's say to control) the tempo of the game. Considering this aspect Isalo's teams aren't versatile enough.
@@tschebyschew23 That's one way to view it; I think Bonn was the big favorite also because of Iisalo's work through the season, when they signed him no one expected him to reach the national finals in 2 season. And 2 years ago he was just 40, I know Gavel is younger but Iisalo still has a lot of time to get better at managing some kind of situations
