  • Hey everyone, its been a while since another episode! In this episode, join me while I install a 15% reduction pulley! I also install a colder set of spark plugs and a new belt while doing the upgrade. Interestingly or frustratingly it didn't all go to plan, but that makes it all the more interesting!
    For reference, I'm working on a Mini Cooper S R53 2004, and parts used:
    Cravenspeed 15% Pulley
    Gates belt
    NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
    I hope you enjoy it! I'll be bringing more content too over the coming weeks. Stay safe everyone!
    Music used from Bensound.com!

    The cars body is so clean, so lucky to live in a warm climate where there is no salt. I also enjoyed the property and the quietness!

      Thanks for your comment, yeah I’m lucky I got a clean car. Not leaving in a salt environment really helps under the car and rust. Cars in Australian weather are pretty good in that regard. I’m really surprised when I see cars in UK where there’s high salt. Yep again lucky to live in a bush block!

    I just bought a R53. My first project car. I plan to install a 15% too. Your channel is perfect for me.

    When your spark plug socket comes off you just have to put the extension back in and try pulling up at and angle wiggling it.

    Cracking video. Definitely something I'm looking to tackle in the future. Quick question regarding using the puller: would applying some heat to the pulley before fitting and using the puller help with the removal of the pulley, or is it difficult to do that without setting fire to something nearby?

    • @ozmini6968
      @ozmini6968  2 роки тому

      Thanks I’m glad you liked the video. Hear may help the pulley but not the puller. Honestly not sure. For me the chain vice grips was the key, clamped down as hard as I could. Alta sell a different style puller that could offer a better clamping force but didn’t try that.

    You could put the new plugs with the existing spark lead just to get them to catch half a thread and then take the bloody rubber out of your tool to make your life easier..been there done that..

    hey, where did you get the rev counter for the middle? or did you build it by yourself? 🤙🏽 great vid!

    • @ozmini6968
      @ozmini6968  2 роки тому

      Hi, no not aftermarket. In Australia the middle rev counter is standard for this model. There is another version that has what's called a Chrono Pack and that has three gauges in the middle instead

    My R53 has 100k miles so I plan to clean the intake valves. Using chemicals instead a walnut blasting . Going to take off the intake manifold. Maybe I should start my own channel. Is it hard?

    Hi! Good job👍 did you made a remap after pulley upgrade? Thanks

    • @ozmini6968

      No, no need for a remap. I do have a Cam to go in and that will require one though

    Now after a time do you would say the 17 would be better? Or what would you prefer?
    Whats the big different between 15 and 17 ?
    I thinking of make the same move an dont know if 15 or 17...? What would you say...thank you great video

    • @ozmini6968
      @ozmini6968  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Pekan, I’m really happy with the change the 15 made, it’s a must upgrade. I can guess the 17 would give a little more midrange pull, it’s roughly 2 psi difference so I should notice it if I did it. If taking on a track is your aim I’d say stick with 15, because a 17 will generate more heat. If it’s a road only car maybe go 17. I think at some stage much later I might try a 17 just to see first hand if with an upgraded inter cooler I could get get the most out if a 17

    • @PekanOsijek
      @PekanOsijek 2 роки тому

      @@ozmini6968 thank for the answer. It should be only a fun 2nd daily. Heat should not be the problem for maybe 4 pulls in raw. And little bit fun on curvy roads. Upgrade cooler maybe go in one when i am at the mechanics. Thnaks for the infos

      You can also do a +2% crank pulley. Turns the 15 into a 17 and the 17 into a 19. But as said, more sc spinning generates more heat and wears on the sc gearbox more

    Would like to know where did u get the red trim of the bottom grill please reply

    • @ozmini6968
      @ozmini6968  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, the red trim was on the car when I bought it, I think it was aftermarket. It looks like it was just a think plastic strip stuck on. I've actually replaced the front bar completely with a new one (someone backed into me) so its now gone

      Hi Alex, I actually bought this pulley off Amazon direct from the US. You can get similar quality pulley's off eBay as well, even suppliers in Australia (but they were a quite a bit more expensive for me believe it or not.

    • @ozmini6968

      I don’t have a link anymore but it’s just an eBay intercooler, which made an immediate improvement. I’ve now installed a “not so hobo” diverted which has made it even more effective which I’ll show in another video coming

    Just be aware that if the SC has a lot of milage on it, it can shorten its life. I did mine and 3 months later have to change the SC 😔

    This design is NOT what you want unless you drive like a old lady, Over time even with thread locker that bolts work their way loose and causes the collar to widen , wobble, and will not tighten up again. Look for the type that has 2 bolts that hold the collar tight on the shaft, and 3 bolts to hold on the pulley.
