    Hi Gary, great to see you back. Sorry to hear about the health issues with family members…..hope all is now well. I admire the depth of your research when acquiring new items, be it wagons, buildings, transport (Nigel at Replitek!) and so on.
    You must have been unlucky with your Dapol A4. I have a number if Dapol locos and they all arrived perfectly and all perform perfectly once they have all been run in. I’m now in the process of converting the older ones to sound !

    Hi Gary. First of all, I am sorry to hear that a couple of your close family members have been ill. I hope that they get well soon. It is good to see you back though. I'm also pleased to see that you have been able to do some more work on the layout. The quarry is looking really good now. Not really sure what you could do with the raised area behind the engine shed. Maybe you could slightly reshape it and make a smaller wooded area on the top, as I don't know what else would fit there? Looking forward to seeing your next video whenever you have time to make it. Best wishes. Mark.

    Good to catch up with the work on the layout Gary. I hope the replacement No9 doesn't disappoint. As you will know I have several A4s on my layout, including No9, and they all run well. I did like the running shots particularly of the trains running through Hellifield with all your scenic work in the background. I was intrigued by your comment about your bridge not being prototypical over four lines. I would be very surprised if you couldn't find a prototype for two lines splitting to four passing under a road bridge as it approaches a station. I think from memory that Euan has a number of over bridges on Blackwood crossing several lines, including on a curve. I think your original idea to have a bridge there would look good, albeit that you may need to adjust the design. Stephen

    • @SC68
      @SC68  Рік тому +1

      Hi Stephen, Thank you for your kind words, good feedback on the A4 thanks just have to see how the quality of the replacement stands up when it arrives? Sorry about the road bridge I missed the vital statement that there are no bridges on the Settle and Carlisle that pass over 4 lines they all only pass over 2. This would move me away from my core design for the layout so I am not too concerned about not having a bridge in that part of the layout. Going to watch you latest video later today, take Care, Cheers Gary

    Excellent Gary. The quarry looks very good I like the new building and rock face. Tunnel top farm looks great with hhe extension and the stream is ace mate. I like all the new plans on the opposite side as well. You could still have a road bridge onto that area by incorporating it into the tunnel entrance. Just a thought. It's all looking very good atb Andy

    Hi Gary, sorry to hear about the illness in the family - I hope all get and stay better.
    Nice to see the update and your plans 🙂
    For me, issues with Dapol locos is 50/50. I've got a Dapol A4 from 2022 - its motion was ok to start with, not mangled like the one you got, but a securing nut came off after some running and everything got messed up. I tried fixing it but was too inexperienced and it resulted in minor damage that I've decided to live with. Besides that it doesn't run particularly well - it tends to stall below medium speed and needs "running-in" every time I use it. The motor is very noisy. I really liked the look of the BR blue Sir Nigel Gresly model announced this year but decided to give it a miss because I don't trust that it will work any better, since there's no mention of updated tooling. I hope you fare better with your replacement!
    I made a video about it - the part with the A4 starts at 2 mins 4 seconds in video number 10: ua-cam.com/video/yahiSgG5kIo/v-deo.html

    Dapol issues? Yep, you bet. I have 16 locos on the workbench where the valve gear has fallen out. Glueing it to the running board at manufacture is in my opinion daft. I have given up with them and 7 of my 9Fs are going on eBay shortly as spares.
    I have modelled the S/C for over 40 years now, 25 of those in N Gauge, with 2 exhibition layouts. I agree with you on the research. I have an extensive library on the S/C and all my running numbers are authentic, including 2 x 60 plus coal trains. I actually model Armathwaite. Keep up the good work. Bob

    Hi Gary! Great to see you posting again! You've made some great progress since the March update! In particular, I loved the remodelled quarry area (I've actually got a similar building to make), and your idea to split the two lines into four on the approach to the station! Not sure why a bridge wouldn't be appropriate to cross the lines though, as it seems perfect for the situation! I've not got any Dapol steamers, but I've read bad things about the tender drive system, and in particular, how the driveshaft between loco and tender can fail! However, I've taken the plunge and pre-ordered Sir Nigel Gresley as I'm fed up waiting for Farish to produce a version - although I still have my fingers crossed that they'll announce one tomorrow in their Winter announcements! Lol! Regarding insulfrog curved setrack points, as you know, the 0-6-0's I own have all had problems when crawling over them, so it would be interesting to see how some of your tank engines perform at slow speed! Those West Hill Wagon Works buffers are great aren't they? I've still got to paint mine too!!! Keep up the good work mate! All the best, Ian.

    Gary good to see you back. I have a Dapol A4 and it runs just fine. However it is the 3rd one after I sent the first 2 back. The second one I received looked very much like yours. Another ‘snap’ moment was your visit to the Strathspey railway. We were there in September and as a bonus we got a couple of visits of 60103. As result of our trip to the area I’m seriously thinking about adding a distillery to my layout! Onto your layout. I personally wouldn’t put a building on the flat portion of the hillside rather I would smooth out the ‘step’ and add a few trees. Finally one question where did you get the retaining wall from around the goods yard? Regards Stephen

I think your comment about the flat portion is spot on with my thinking and that's now looking like what I am going to do but lets see. The Retaining wall is a Ratio kit type number 239 Retaining Walls, hope this helps? Cheers Gary

      Hi Peter, Thank you for your concern, both parents are on the road to recovery but will only find properly in the New Year with my mum. Ah I had not seen anyone use a loco sheet before I thought it was my invention 🤣🤣 I liked your comments about the beer 🍺 I personally think it makes for better videos when I've had a tipple 😉😂 Take Care Cheers Gary
