Here's a dichotomy; I do believe Essential Quality is 3 to 4 lengths better than Greatest Honor. However, not expecting Spielberg to hit the board here. Nova Rags is not being talked about enough ( I.m.o. )
Added distance might be the great equalizer. Greatest Honour is supposed to get faster as distances increase. That is what his pedigree suggests and that is what Shug has been saying all along. Now he has to go out there and prove it. Nova Rags is too slow but 3yo's can improve in a hurry in the spring. I like his sire Union Rags and he should sit a nice ground saving tactical trip.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I think Collaborate is an interesting win contender. He is lightly raced with a nice pedigree. His connections are easy to like and he has the tactical speed to put himself in a favorable early position. Greatest Honour is supposed to get faster as distances increase and has done nothing wrong at GP this winter. Known Agenda certainly wants every bit of the 9f distance and Spielberg exits a good runner-up finish in the Southwest on a wet track. I like your Florida Derby picks and I hope you are able to make some money today. Good luck!
Speed usually rules at GP, but Greatest Honour is 3-for-3 at the Gulf and keeps rallying and winning these local Derby preps. He won't offer any value and a horse like Collaborate with tactical speed and upside might be playable.
Good video Jarrod. Spielberg may be Baffert's what 4'th string? There doesn't seem to be a lot of quality pace, and while he's not been a top Derby horse of mine, I think Spielberg could win this race. Maybe Baffert senses a little weakness in shipping him to Florida. So, # 10 to win over GH #7, over # 1 , 11 at a price in the Tri. Good luck.
It is funny saying $1 million purchase Spielberg is Baffert's fourth stringer but that does seem to be the case. I have followed his career closely and am just not impressed with any of his races. He ran okay in the Southwest but wide closers did well on the wet track that day. If Baffert was not his trainer he would be 8-1 or higher in the Florida Derby.
So you think Baffert sent Spielberg all the way to Florida (first time ever in a KD prep race) to get 4th place?....really?...Spielberg could probably get second or third place in the Santa Anita Derby in a week from now....Baffert must think Spielberg can win this thing....Spielberg gate to wire in this one, Greatest Honour clunks up for second or third.....
No doubt that Baffert would like to win the Florida Derby, but I have never been a big fan of Spielberg and if he wins, I lose. Greatest Honour has more than enough Derby qualifying points and does not have to win, but he is on a roll and could easily rally for the victory again.
@@JarrodHorak This race is class relief for Spielberg....he has been running against some of the best horses in the country in California...had he not stubbled coming out of the gate in the Southwest Stakes, I think he could have made things interesting against Essential Quality who I think is 3 to 4 lengths better than Greatest Honour....
@@truthseeker2055 he did stumble out the gate but there was no way anyone is catching Essential Quality. Maybe in the Derby Greatest Honour can catch him at the Mile pole. I agree with Jarrod tho, Spielberg just isn’t appealing. Idk what it is either. Races just don’t stick out. In the Robert Lewis he came in 4th and that field isn’t as tough as what he’s coming up against. But hey it’s racing, bad trips for others could be favorable to him.

I have always liked Essential Quality but am not ready to say that he is 3-4 lengths better than Greatest Honour. I want to see what they do in their final preps at 9f before making that assessment.
