The person who is responsible for and loves the child has the obligation to do so. Or their leadership/government has the obligation to protect the lives of their citizens by facilitating them moving to safety. The lives and deaths of the 'people' of Gaza are being used as political currency by their own government to put pressure on their enemies. There are many examples online of taped conversations of people in Gaza talking about the fact that Hamas won't let them leave.

It's quite clear what your bigoted intentions are when you apply a certain logic to only one side.
In both Judaism and international law, a civilian is someone who isn't armed and isn't involved in hostilities. If there is any question, combatants are expected to err on the side of caution. That's how we demand others treat Jewish civilians and that is how Jews must treat Palestinian civilians. What Friedman describes is disturbing, inhuman, and callous.
I believe the point is that if you allow the enemy’s actions to determine how you act, you are ceding power to them and are giving up your ability to properly defend yourself. He’s not saying “We have to bomb all of Gaza because none of them are civilians”, he’s saying you have to fight the war how you would fight any war regardless of the situation, regardless of hostages and regardless of non-combatants, because that way the enemy will know that if they attack you, you will respond no matter what. The enemy needs to believe you will always retaliate no matter what they do, or else you have made yourself a target and put your people in danger

They are not in the crossfire, they are in their nation and their army attacked Israel. That does not mean Israel should go after non combatants, but to pretend there is no connection between Hamas and its citizens is nonsensical. To characterize it as abuser and abused is not truthful. Israel is the abused in this case, Israel suffered the attack, and now Israel is retaliating against the abuser

I'm very pro-Palestinian and grew up Muslim, and I appreciate they're at least discussing the issue. Part of the responsibility falls on Hamas for not having uniforms and CHOOSING to set up their attacks from locations where there are civilians.

Civilians stay out of the military areas. This is normally arranged naturally by the military forces that fight on behalf of those civilians. Unless of course the military that fights on their behalf cares nothing for them whatsoever.

Is this video for real or satire? Is this "rabbi" honestly suggesting that Israel's bombing 7,000+ Palestinian civilians into oblivion is somehow legitimate or consistent with the Torah because they weren't holding up white flags? This sounds like something you might read in The Onion.
It's clear from his whole demeanor that this "man of God" finds the whole thing rather amusing. And that kind of gives away the game, because in reality Palestinian civilians are not collateral damage in Israel's war with Hamas; rather, Israel's war with Hamas is a pretext for slaughtering Palestinian civilians. The goal is to reduce the Palestinian population as much as possible & to terrorize Gazans into abandoning their territory. This will become increasingly obvious to the entire world as the war progresses.

Of course they ate collateral damage. Israel has warned them many times to evacuate to the South of Gaza. Some decide to stay at the risk of being touched from the bombings. Hamas did also tell them to stay.

Israel ordered Gazans to migrate south to avoid being bombed and then proceeded to bomb many (not all) of the Gazans who did move south. Human rights organizations have been unanimous in their assessment that Israel's recommendations to Gazans on how to avoid being bombed are both infeasible and inadequate to significantly reduce Gazan casualties. Like the meager "relief" and "supplies" Israel has provided to Gazans since the start of the hostilities, this is nothing more than a cover for their atrocities, for which history will judge them very harshly.

This is very troubling thing to hear from a Rabbi. To whom does the civilian go to identify ? These people are being killed from far away. To whom does a Palestinian wave a white flag? This is blaming the victim. As a Jew I will keep my conscience and follow Moses and the commandments. We must keep the Torah laws above all else. This interpretation is very sad to my heart. We are commanded to not kill, to not steal and yet this keeps going on. The horror of October 7 is not being solved by this thinking. This is why we have never had peace.
Holding up a white flag is used figuratively. In our case, if these so called "civilians" are staying in close proximity to terrorist bases and rocket launchers, that is no surrendering. Surrendering is going to south Gaza, where Israel instructed them to go.
The rabbi eventually answered this objection. Action must be taken, the adversary must understand that it will be taken. Military objectives will be neutralized, and Israel cannot be stopped by the use of human shields, whether those are Israeli hostages or Palestinian civilians.

You are missing a lot of key points, but I will point out only one that I think even the Rabbi missed.
It is not uncommon to have a mandatory draft like they had in Vietnam or in WW2, etc. And though this is not a very traditional kind of draft, it is effectively one because the human shields are just that, shields. They are a military defense.

Babies parents should do it for their kids just like they provide their other needs
Babies are dependent on their parents decisions. Parents have had over 3 weeks to get out of harms way. Palestinian babies have a better chance than the Israeli babies killed.

Here is the salient question - if Hamas were hiding in Tel Aviv or Haifa, would Israel be using the same tactics as Russia used in Aleppo now? Conversely, if the US proved in Mosul, that they could enter and take an entire city full of fanatical ISIS terrorists almost entirely without civilian casualties - why is it not possible for Israel? And if the answer to either of those is what logic and reason dictate, then the next salient question is - if Israel is doing something counter to reason and logic, then what is the real objective?

My only criticism of this great lesson is this: the "white flag" comparison is problematic, because the white flag usually means "I surrender." How do you identify as a civilian without surrendering? And if you do not surrender and throw down your weapons, how do I know that you are not a terrorist with a false flag? In the real world, this is a real problem, and there is no easy answer. The IDF declared Al Mawasi a safe zone on October 18. They had a one week ceasefire during which they could have taken steps to protect the Camp that was set up by my personal friends without help from anyone. Yesterday my friend lost his niece who died from shrapnel wounds to the head after the IDF targeted Hamas operatives who were hiding among the civilians in the "safe" zone. If you cannot protect a designated safe zone then the Halacha about civilians declaring themselves non combatants by fleeing the war zone is rendered meaningless.
From what exactly would a Palestinian state live? Who would finance them? They depend for 60% of their budget on the USA, 30% on the EU. So why exactly should we pay for them? It is our tax money and we need it at home.
