    Despite all of the other comments from people on here saying they remodeled the character right out of it, I personally love the transformation! Let's be real here people, the house was falling apart and needed some major work. Now it's clean, updated and gorgeous! I'd buy that house without any hesitation whatsoever. It may be really modern now, but who cares, it's still a beautiful house.

      I'll take a "rogue" but cleaned up house any day over a house with "character" aka. Poor foundation, backing up sewer, drafty windows, leaky ceilings, etc.

      I know right I don’t know why people are getting butthurt over the history of the house being completely gone and what not. It’s pretty obvious they wanted a big house with a big space and they wanted to modernise it? And they did such a good job because this house had lots of potential too it. SO I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT

    I loved the old windows with the colored glass details. I hope those didn't get tossed.

    How serene! I love the combination of clean white walls and dark wood floors. The Shaker buildings from the Pleasantville Kentucky settlement of the 1800's are the same and they are beautiful, even while empty. Particularly love the clean, elegant, kitchen. I just hope the buyers don't bring a lot of clutter to ruin the feng shui.

    it's nice, but In my opinion I think leaving a little bit of the "Old charm" would've looked better. These older homes have so much character it's worth saving some of it.

    • @doubleyouexwhyamzed

      This was super satisfying for me to watch because I hate older homes with the "old charm." Oh my gosh, especially wooden walls and stuff like that. lol.

    • @odumnobles
      @odumnobles 6 років тому +7

      It looks like a Home Depot demo now. Why not buy a newer house or build one if you don't really like older homes? Such a shame.

    • @doubleyouexwhyamzed
      @doubleyouexwhyamzed 6 років тому +3

      Very valid point but not everyone can afford to buy a newer house or just build one from scratch. I don't know, I guess everyone has different tastes. I'm all about how I feel in certain spaces, I can't help it, and when I see wood everywhere, stairs that creek, dark furniture, lots of browns, dark greens, etc and old school windows and stuff it makes me feel depressed and bad. lol. Like when you're in one of those old elevators, ugh, horrible. But there are ways to use browns and stuff and really make a beautiful modern room but yeah, it's just that really old style I hate.

    • @odumnobles
      @odumnobles 6 років тому +2

      Lysol Disinfectant Wipes In places where older, intact homes survive, newer homes are much cheaper. I suspect that is due to the rarity of unaltered structures.

    They did an amazing job with the landscaping of the house. The inside staircase and bathroom were nice but the other rooms are devoid of character and color. Hopefully the furnishings make up for that!

  • @faz..
    @faz.. 5 років тому +2

    1. Does the front of the house have damp or have you put in a DPC?
    2. Why would you paint the bricks (exterior)
    3. The hallway has lost its charm
    4. Why laminate over wood?
    Nice kitchen and bathroom.

  • @mugwump242

    Overall, I like this renovation. However, I agree with the other comments here lamenting the apparent loss of leaded and stained glass windows/doors. I'm glad some were kept in place but it's a shame they all weren't incorporated into the new design. For instance, the leaded glass double doors seen at 1:21 could have been repurposed in lieu of the obviously new french doors appearing at 2:03. Also, painting exterior brick is usually a bad idea. Bricks absorb moisture like sponges (from the air as well as precipitation) and, once painted, they can become a maintenance hassle forevermore. Say hello to peeling paint every few years. Additionally, I can't help but hope the folks who buy this house will ditch the generic "spec" chandeliers throughout in favor of fixtures that are a nod to the domicile's original era. I think this one thing would do much to bring the feelings of the old and new more into balance, highlighting the place's one-of-a-kind character.

    Beautifully done so clean and beautiful a lovely place to move into. Just one little thing the kitchen cabinets could have retained panelled cabinet doors I think. Painted white to match or even in melamine adds a little classic tradition to the renovation give it that little lift unique classic class.?

    BEAUTIFUL job. This breathes fresh air in that old building. Updationg it is welcoming to a new family to make a home. People who are crying over this house aren't th ones who own it nor providing funds. Not to mention old houses are hard to heat / cool n maintain

    I didn't see that many bedrooms to justify the amount of open-space downstairs. Those dinning rooms and living rooms have enough space for ten people to move around... or more. Maybe if they kept some walls for a library or office, even a small fitness room or game room, a nursery... and definitely kept some of the old characteristics of the house, it needed updating but the old time charm vibe was certainly lost...

      Hello Ana, thank you for watching! We don't put all the rooms on the video, people would get bored :-) This is actually pretty big house, 5 bedroom house with 2 living areas and one playroom/ fitness room. The open plan you can see on the video is just kitchen and dining area. We understand we cannot please everybody with a style but I can guarantee you that it still has a beautiful charm with an original character. :-)

    I'm sorry did you say renovation or character assassination....? So it's had an American style reno, its been made comfortable and a nice finish but I can't help thinking that you bought the wrong house for the look you prefer. It might have been better to have left this house for someone else who liked this style more and would have renovated it more in keeping with that. Not really a criticism, more an observation because its still a nice house, if a bit bander now.

    You can tell whenever this house was originally built it was state of the art. It looks like it fell into some despair probably as the original owners got older. I just stumbled across your channel and l’m delighted. You did a wonderful job and brought this house back to life. I loved everything except *0:50, the brick & half picket fence wall looks as if you just had a “slip-cover” put over it. It’s just not in keeping with the rest of the house. Otherwise... BRAVO 👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼

  • @sagisli

    The living room turned out stunning and the staircase is a stand alone focal point. I understand the comments about character. The kitchen and baths were too sleek for this home and the storage area transformation was brilliant but it would have been absolutely perfect if you kept the brick wall. All in all, a magnificent renovation. Good luck to the new owners in their beautiful home.

    Beautiful reno. The kitchen and bathroom had already been redone at some time like the 50s or 60s, so these renovators were not destroying history in those rooms at all. Those rooms were pokey and ill-designed and needed to be opened up. The stained glass on the front door and window to its side were retained. The addition off the rear had been added after the house was built so there was no problem with bringing that up to date; likewise with the deteriorated garage. The stairway is GORGEOUS. The only thing I am doubtful about is all the wood used on the exterior to hold back stone walls and define patio spaces. Unless it is manufactured wood made from plastics I can see it deteriorating very quickly...it is handsome and defines the porch and patio spaces well, but I am also not sure of how good that will look 30 years from now; it might look outdated and very 2015. You never know. But for now, the house is drop dead gorgeous.

    Lovely, but I noticed there are no air returns or any wall mounted units in any room. That means the house doesn't have air-conditioning. I know it's not as common in the UK to have central air or any air conditioners at all, but I would think a house of this size would have it.

They took an old peace of charecterfull garbage and turned it into a modern canvas for the new owners to put their character onto over the next decades. And then in lets say 50-60 years people will yell again when the next owner remodels the character out of this house. I love it.

  • @annabanan5518
    @annabanan5518 6 років тому

    I would have made some different choices that are in keeping with the integrity of the design. For instance, the use of stained wood that becomes weathered and run-down due to the climate/seasons and temperatures taking their toll on the condition and appearance of the wood-wrapped perimeter will require serious cost/maintenance to keep the new look. The entry door where the removal of the outer, storm door was removed - I imagine the original owners put it there because the driven snow in the winter makes that egress a cold, wet, sloppy mess and having it closed off also provided an additional energy saving, thermal layer to the home while doors opening/closing in inclimate weather. I think a better substitute may have been a solid thermal glass (with minimal structural trim that would result in blocking the view of the entrance) - giving the illusion of there not being a door but maintaining a clean, thermal layer and weather-protected entry. I don't understand the block wood rail to replace the dilapidated porch rail overlooking the beautiful back yard. While sitting on that porch, residents and guests would be prevented from enjoying the view of the acreage. The bathroom open cabinetry where linens are stored in plain view doesn't keep linens from dust, bacteria, etc. - those things should be stored behind closed doors from fixtures that splash. Many areas had tasteful updates but the choices that affected the functional aspects and inhibited the full enjoyment of the spaces would have been a point of frustration for me as the homeowner.

    This video made me sad. I liked the house before the reno. 😔

      It kinda did, but I personally think after the renovation it looked better, and I also wanted that house.

    I think it looks better now with renovation, before it looked like a hunted house, besides once you add your own furniture and decor its perfect, also all people have different taste, one mans trash is another man treasure, and I don't understand all the harsh comments, give credit where is deserved.

    I find the big airy windows and endless white rooms kind of depressing

    Gorgeous touches. Only, I would have so preferred more hardwood upstairs as I hate carpet, but then again, so much additions were placed and high end finishes, that there was most likely not enough money to add in hardwood upstairs. That and I wish the wooden deck would have continued to that patio area instead of having rocks. Lastly, I don't like that chandelier hanging above the staircase. Other than that, everything was beautiful. I'm just very detail oriented and peculiar lmfao

    The integrity of the house is gone, too modern.

    It’s nice. I do think I would have liked the outside better if they used stone instead of wood
