when Dennis talked about not knowing why he couldn't apologize to his mother, it reminded me of what I went through with my mom. I didn't want to apologize and have "the talk" because I didn't want her to blame me for what happened between us in my childhood. And because I didn't think she could take the truth of what I needed to say to her. The pain she caused me. I finally apologized to my mom when she was dying in the hospital. The thing I always feared happened, my sister was there and said in a joking way I was a brat and my mom concurred. It was a knife in my heart. But I have no regrets for apologizing and opening my heart. I would imagine Dennis's hesitance is because it feels so vulnerable. We are exposing our hearts to more potential pain and blame. But I would encourage him to get the courage to do it because we have to make peace. But you have to prepare mentally and spiritually for it. you have to do it for them as an act of love and forgiveness. if he apologizes and she does not forgive, then she has to live with it. he did the loving thing by apologizing and set himself free (and set her free of his resentment). Forgiveness is very powerful.
She made him homeless. My mother did it to me too. They're evil and deserve nothing . But for us man we forgive them cos we're the one with heart and genuine emotions. If your a unloving/ narcissistic parent why have children. It will really hurt the child.
I think this is my favorite of your episodes. Dennis is the real deal and so are you. Dennis is quite a lovely man when sober. It’s amazing that he joined the NBA at age 25, played 13 seasons ending his career at age 38. And if he had managed his off court activities and lifestyle better would no doubt have been able to continue to play in top form. He was truly a very gifted athlete as were his two sisters and as is all of his athletic scholarship children.
I cried hearing the story about the little white boy and the mug. Because he just cared about this stranger and wanted things to be good for Dennis. I love the caring in that story. And that Dennis understood that.
I've watched quite a few podcasts with Dennis lately. This is really good. I like how Dennis seems comfortable with Lewis. Especially the acid part🙂 Great podcast! Thanks for sharing
he did have a soft side too for right and wrong. During the 1991 pistons vs bulls games, he was really kind of close with Mj and realized the dirty plays of defense were too much, and he showed shame, and hug at that time. In a way he was kind of aggressive and a troll on the court, but he has a lot of heart too. In many ways he reminds me Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid. The best defender of all time
Wow, Lewis, this is a great interview. I am glad that Dennis Rodman opened to you the way he did. This man has so much potential (Dennis) to interview others and learn from other people's lives. I am looking forward to this future documentaries and work. Love and blessings from Canada :)
One thing to add that I hope Dennis sees: Love is defined in the Bible as patience, kindness, protects, trusts, hopes... read 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. It defines what love is and what love is not. Peace brother.
just wow! this is a unique guest, used to admire him when i was a kid now i will know why! thanks lewis
You are very welcome!
