Great reminder of the days we were playing football in Nakivubo stadium in 1977 by schools representing the 5 regions of Uganda.I was in the Bishop Willis team from the East coached by Maj. Orombi. Those songs would be played in the stadium microphones throughout the duration of the matches much to the delight of the players and the spectators. You remember Ngali, Ayi djo, Manguta etc.
I play this song always starting from Friday through to Sunday. It makes my wkd. I have no clue what the words mean but sounds so familiar and some mean something else in my language. I think its a Bantu song - yes Lingala
My word, what a hit! Brings back memories of the 70's, in Amin's Uganda. Wonderful orchestration, and the blend of the vocal ranges. Engunduka is clearly one of the best Lingala tunes ever composed by Orchestre Veve.
Back then two radios will broadcast this song every evening, that was Radio Uganda and Radio Burundi from Bujumbura - broadcasting and every bit of this song will be heard all over eastern Africa! What went wrong with our people? I was young and the next thing I hear was massacre in Rwanda followed by a tuburance time in Burundi! Do we have to go through this again? Let us keep the French out of Rwanda and Burundi and play Engunduka for the future of our African kids.
Very classic music to remember . I was in primary 7 during the good Idi Amin's time of every thing free at school in Uganda. Late Abu mayanja was the then minister of Education
"Alo, alo qui stop..." The beat so easy going but firing you up at the same time. The cebene is one of classics: the guitars take it up and Verckys sprinkles the sax magic, ahhh. I'm back in 70s Nairobi, bell bottoms flapping, my Goodyear-tyre platform shoes making me the very heigth of fashion!
Namkumbuka mwalimu wangu mkuu Shileki s/msingi Tenende Kyela alikuwa na hii santuri ikifika Exmass tulikwa tunaenda kuazima kwake na ikipigwa ukumbini kwenye godauni za kijiji ikiisha tu utasikia 'oncesmall' DJ.
Wimbo wanikumbusha mwaka 1976 nikiwa nafundisha Itete primary Kirando nikiwa na rafiki yangu Mganga na marehem Kaishozi Tuliupenda na kuucheza kwenye automatic recording player Maisha yalikuwa mazuri mno Winfrida Mshama upo wapi Mimi Mbogora
Engunduka was a session group that consisted of Veve members (Sax Matalanza, Djo Roy Matudi, and Tino Muinkwa); Just listen to Veve saxophone in Baluti at 4.49 to realise it was the same band. See them live in Kampala : ua-cam.com/video/hSbCtmsEmCA/v-deo.html
You could be absolutely right. As someone has indicated in an earlier post, it was a collaboration of Veve and Johnny Bokelo. As with many other records, it could also have been released later under a session group calling itself Orchestra Engunduka. That group has at least three other songs.
Owakabi Music is a universal language that defies substance. Mobutu may have had his failings but there is no denying that Congolese music was at its best during his reign. Even Makiadi's campaign ballad Mobutu is a beautiful tune that still beats todays compositions
Aikambe, Olinga Olingate was re-named 'Polygame En Danger'. I didn't know anybody else remembere this great song by Bokelo Isenge. I have the song . I may upload it or e-mail me and I can send it to you.
I was born in Kenya ,I remember those best music days Nobody in Africa plays better music than Congolese . They are the best
Can someone put a timeline on this song as to what yr it came out?Who were the presidents of the region at the time😂😂

Where you there when this song rocked the bars of Kampala in the seventies?
Some of us were lucky my brother George, when this song rocked all bars and dancing halls in Uganda in the Seventies.
Despite all said about Amin period in Kampala...it was a very pleasant city and the bars would fill dancing to Congolese music.
Life was tough then songs like this made it bearable. This played in the Kyaluwajala and kireka bars. Thanks for uploading
Jessica, don't mention them all my sister because hearing of those places just makes tear rolls non stop.
My older brother James Turyagyenda used to sing this song Engunduka by veve.
I was in secondary school (form) 1977

I do not understand why it's presented here as orch. Egunduka. The title on the vinyl ad I remember was Egunduka by Bokelo International.

Can't believe you're supporting mobutu! Cant say much
Cut the fellow some slack, during Mobutus time the sounds which came from Zaire where out of this world surly it is no coincidence but …….
Owakabi
Music is a universal language that defies substance. Mobutu may have had his failings but there is no denying that Congolese music was at its best during his reign. Even Makiadi's campaign ballad Mobutu is a beautiful tune that still beats todays compositions
