1941-45: Ideological Differences Between East & West | GCSE History Revision | Cold War
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- The recent invasion of Germany into the Russia means that Russia has now joined the war (WWII for the uninitiated) and fallen on the same side as the allies. An alliance, known as 'The Grand Alliance', between Russia, the USA and Britain, is formed, with their leaders collectively being known as 'the big three'. The Alliance meets 3 times during the war: in Tehran in 1943, Yalta in February 1945 and Potsdam in July 1945. This, however, presents some problems, some problems which become ever-more apparent as the war comes to a close.

Revision Notes: [slightly edited to avoid de-£]
- britain & USA capitalist
- [SU] was [not]
differences between leaders
- Roosevelt, Churchill & [tash man] often referred to as 'the big three' (leaders in 1941) because their beliefs and ambitions dominated world politics until Roosevelt's death in 1945
- the suspicions church & roosevelt had about [tash man] & vise versa played a major role in shaping relations from 1941
- the difference in their personal political beliefs furthered the breakdown of relations that happened as the war drew to a close
differences between nations
- during the '30s the us and brit had been v critical of the methods used by stalin to industrialise the soviet union and the cost in humans that brought
- [tash man] was a strong opponent of german [f-ism word] so it suited the 3 countries to work together
- it was clear that there would be a strain on relations once the war ended
- ideological differences made it impossible to agree on how post-war europe should be governed
- WWII brought a significant shift in world politics
- 'old powers' like brit and france now less important
- 2 new 'superpowers' emerged: usa and [SU]
- their military and economic strength had defeated germany
the grand alliance
- the grand alliance was formed between the usa [SU] and brit to mastermind the defeat of germany and japan in WWII
- june 1941, when 4 million german troops invaded the [SU] (despite a non-aggression pact) the alliance was formed
- despite the 3 countries forming an alliance, there was no real change in how they viewed each other
- usa and britain remained suspicious of [not capitalism]
- [tash man] realised that the west wouldn't want to take any actions that made the [SU] stronger in the long run
- the leaders of the grand alliance met 3 times during the war: tehran (1943), yalta (feb 1945) and potsdam (july 1945)

@Miles Black Thanks for the suggestion! Regardless of the PM's personal beliefs, Britain was still being governed and run in a way which was capitalist throughout the period, making it capitalist. :)
@@Alonglongtimeago correction the map in 3:09 is the current world map not the cold war one :)
Good job on a really underrated aspect of this conflict which was not, as WWI, a war of nations but of ideologies. Especially difficult to grasp when you're in a triangle situation like capitalism/democracy vs fascism/naziism vs communism.
Keep up the good work, you've earned a new subscriber 😊
Ah the enemy of my enemy is my friend, until my enemy is defeated, then all bets are off. I know it's the way of things, but somehow it doesn't seem right.
@Khalid Maxamed Patreons get early access ;)
@Khalid Maxamed Early each morning, a long long time ago has to trudge many miles up hill in the snow just to use the internet. With patron, for just pennies a day you can help bring the internet to her village. Well maybe it's not that bad, but still it's a great way to show your appreciation for what she does.
Britain didn't wait for france to fall, they bombed the french navy before the Nazis had even gotten there 🤷
Honestly that explanation of communism was better than just calling them Communist like most people do
Yes I am a communist myself and approve of it, but I am obviously biased.
Thank you! I spent quite a long time figuring out how to explain communism to my audience of largely 15/16 yros in a way that’s still nuanced (it irks me how the UK education system still basically teaches communism = bad scary thing), so it’s nice to know my efforts were appreciated!
Great video, makes learning history a lot more enjoyable and these summarise textbooks amazingly! Are you able to make more videos based on the Cold War?
There'll be more cold war videos at some point! :)
I would’ve found this helpful if my school didn’t drop Cold War for the exams but still a good video
Oh no! Tbf no one knows what's going on with exams at this point, it's a mess...
Animation is amazing. You did the narration quite well. Bruh, you are very underrated. You will soon hit 100k subs. Well done
Thank you!! :)
This video is literally one of the best explanations ever, I never actually understood the ideology differences in school, but now I know it off by heart. I just finished revising it and did some blurting and I was literally spot on, accept that I got the communist and capitalist countries mixed up and got the Yalta and Tehran dates mixed up, other than that I'm really happy! Thank you so much!!
awww thank you, I pleased you found it so helpful! Also good luck for the final paper!!
Cool channel! I’ve just started my History GCSE at 41 just because...loads of useful stuff! Especially the exam answer techniques! Thank you :)
Thank you! History GCSE at 41 is pretty cool ngl
41?
Are you making any more videos for Superpower relations and the Cold War?? These are so good!!
I will be at some point! :)
I love the art style.
Thank you! Much time goes in! :)
This is bad timing because I just had a test on this lol great video thank you!
Oh no! Time to wheel out the time machine then!! :D
Haha lol wish I could on a lot of things
This is saving my GCSEs
Hope you do more videos on the come war as it will help me in my exam
Love the fonts!
We'll have to put them to Betty for the next typography debate!!
My teacher explained this topic well, I mean a while ago but this help even more and gave me a recap. I assume I may go back on the 8th of march because it's Boris so I'll sure have to revise as much as possible
This was a great video
Let's go my first heart from a youtuber
I'm an American and no longer in school but I still love your videos keep up the good work
You made a very good
will there be more cold war videos?
At some point but I don't know when :)
1:44 the gripes about the textbooks and how oversimplified certain things are but how they put nuance is useless things is so irritating sometimes. It’s 100% in purpose with communism though, and the worst part is half the teachers that are teaching the subjects fall for it completely as well so don’t oppose it. Glad to see that someone putting out this content which is potentially going to be used in classrooms can see the light. Also I will say that many if not all arguments against Stalinist era Soviet Union just fall flat to me, especially the whole evil dictator thing, when the CIA literally has files saying that the only reason people think like that is because they’re confused about the Soviet democratic system which is arguably much more democratic than western styled systems.
Although I’m past this stuff age wise, I will recommend this channel to peeps I know doing gcse history, it’s good stuff keep it up!
Oh and also, this is done on purpose by the curriculum but it completely leaves out how France/Britain and other powers all made non-aggression pacts with Nazi Germany in the pretext to 1939.
I have a question for 8 marks Edexcel? Do you structure it with 2 peels?
Depends on which type of 8 marker we're talking about :)
it should be "and tell all your friends, if you have any"
Im very glad you didnt explain communism/socialism as "government does stuff and owns everything" or other dumb uninformed stuff like that, but actually explained the basis of it, that is an end goal, not a state.
Yup people who define communism like that really irk me because not only is it evident they don't have a clue what they're talking about but they're spreading misinformation (and rather successfully unfortunately)
The Berlin Wall would have been a great ending
i will have a word with the gcse textbook
Shout out to the Anarchists in the comments! Me and my homies love and are anarchists.
