  • I can list the number of bikes that I really really like on the fingers of one hand.
    Now you know what I am talking about.
    The Triumph Thruxton R is one fabulous motorcycle.
    In this comprehensive review of the Thruxton R, I tried to be as honest as possible.
    But the bike is so good that it is difficult to speak negatives. I want to own this thing.
    Also, I have tried to put in a few moments giving a short tutorial on how to set up the suspension settings of your Thruxton R.
    Thank you Bobby Roy for flying the drone and for shooting. Without you, this video would not have been possible.

    Hello man good review I'm thinking in one of these just the nine t is in my mind too what do you think?

    • @KrishnenduKes
      @KrishnenduKes  6 років тому +5

      I was thinking exactly on similar lines. Let me line it up for you:
      1. The BMW makes more power.
      2. The BMW is significantly more expensive (at least in our country).
      3. The Thruxton R has better ground clearance. (Important in our country)
      4. The Thruxton R has 10% higher torque at a much lower RPM. The Thruxton is clearly off the blocks much earlier.
      I have a feeling, (from what I remember) that the 9T is marginally more flickable though I cannot really say that convincingly.
      Looks are very subjective. Both have great build quality and durability.
      So it is really up to you to choose what you want. I know it is a tough call.

      What did you end up getting? I was in the same boat a year ago. I ended up getting a 2013 Thruxton 900, simply because I got a good deal on it and the bike was like brand new with 2k miles. I really love it. The 900 is sufficient, but at times I do wish I had the 1200 and a 6th gear for highway.

      I was able to test ride them both side by side, and the Thruxton R was a better fit for me. A little background, I am coming from a Ducati 1299 Panigale, but I am looking to transition into something a bit more tame. With that being said, the BMW was a little too sterile and smooth...the Thruxton R is a bit more engaging. The Thruxton R sounds better, brake feel is superior, and for me that made all the difference. I will say that the gearing and lower rpm's are a bit of a pitfall to me, but again I am coming from sport bikes, hence I am jaded. I just felt I was shifting a bit too soon, and I prefer to run a bit more between gears. Other than that, this bike is a great bike! I also test rode a Yamaha MT-09, which may have been the best all around bike I have ever ridden...only problem for me is the MT-09 lacks in build quality (finish details), sound, and style, but this is a little off topic! Conclusion, the Thruxton R was hands down better than the BMW R Nine T for me. Hope this helps...

    As a owner of 2016 Thruxton R for over two years I thought this was an excellent review. I have raced this bike, ridden it on short rides (150 miles) and longer rides (400 mile days) and on the long rides I prefer my Corbin seat for two. I know the 0-60 mph speed is advertised as 3.0 seconds but I found it to be closer to 3.8 seconds.
    The bike is versatile and capable of racing, touring or just general in town commutes with equal excellence. I have a couple of vlogs up showing it on the drag strip and at the Bonneville Salt Flats going full speed under my name. Keep it clean and change the oil and you can ride it hard with no issues. There have been recalls for some issues for some bikes on the 2016 models....but mine has been trouble free.

    Picked my new bike (Xmas present from my wife) on 02 Jan 2019. I have lusted after this bike since a motorcycle journalist here in Australia lent me a demonstration model Triumph had lent him mid 2017. I am loving everything about this bike except having to ride it gently for the run-in period. Brakes, handling, acceleration, it has it all. And to ride it in the metropolitan area just brings positive comments about how beautiful it is. I think my Yamaha Super Tenere is developing a complex, having been ignored since the Thruxton arrived. Glad you love your bike as much as I love mine. Even my son, ex WSBK and MotoGP, enjoyed a ride on it, complimenting the gearbox, light clutch and handling/steering.

      Totally agree on all points. Actually this is not my bike. Triumph gave this bike to me for a video review and these are my thoughts on the bike.

      That said, I am honoured to know that your son is ex WSBK and MotoGP. What's his name?

    Hi krishnendu
    3 questions:
    1. what is the actual efficiency of bike in coty/highway riding?
    2. Maintenance cost of bike per year?
    3. I am going to buy one for me, do u think there are any differences in 2017 and 2019 model thruxton r ?
    Please share ur valuable feedback

    • @KrishnenduKes
      @KrishnenduKes  4 роки тому

      Thank you for commenting. All very valid questions.
      Firstly the fuel efficiency is to the tune of 22kmpl give or take depending upon your riding style.
      Maintaining it also depends on how much you are riding it. Your first major service with oil change would be around 7.5 K and it should cost as much as a mid sized hatchback.
      As for the 2019 model there is not much difference to write home about other than a little change in the rake angle making it an even better handler.

    Hey there,
    great video. You showed stuff no other Thruxton reviewer showed.
    Can I ask you 2 thing. Rather help me decide.
    1. Can one do long touring on Thruxty?
    2. Now that RE released GT Continental 650, bike of choice.......Thruxton or GT?
    Great idea........ You should do a comparison video :)

    • @KrishnenduKes
      @KrishnenduKes  4 роки тому +3

      That's indeed a great question. For me, it will boil down to a question of finances. Also, they are not the same category at all.
      The Thruxton is 6 times more expensive. It is 3 times more powerful, has twice as much torque, USD fully adjustable forks and suspension. They are actually not comparable.

    • @Keshy.
      @Keshy. 4 роки тому +1

      Krishnendu, much thanks for your valuable feedback.
      Let’s say finances is not a concern. The thing is how much of that higher torque and hp can be enjoyed on our Indian roads :)
      And what about touring on Thruxton. Would you dare a world tour on same?

    • @KrishnenduKes
      @KrishnenduKes  4 роки тому +1

      @@Keshy. Valid point. Depends on where you are. I loved it in North India. Great for carving the Himalayan Twisties. Excellent for Rajasthan, Maharashtra, pretty good actually. I wouldn't do a world tour for sure on this for 2 reasons: 1. Luggage options and, 2. Range. I would prefer the Multistrada. Check my Multistrada review.
      Imp note: this is a review of the Thruxton R and not the Thruxton, two very different motorcycles!

    Torn between T120 and Thruxton, in particular for comfort. How tall are you and inside leg? I’m 6 foot and 32” inseam, Thruxton May be too cramped for me ? Thanks

      @KrishnenduKes  4 роки тому +1

      Firstly let me thank you for leaving a comment and asking a relevant question. I'm sorry I never got a notification of your comment.
      The answers are thus:
      I'm 166 cms, that's 5'6" or thereabouts. I do not know my inseam. But because of the sporty nature, it stands a little tall for me. If you have not ridden a sportsbike before, like an R6 or an R1, then for sure you might find it a little cramped.
      Both the T120 and the Thruxton are very good motorcycles. But they are very different motorcycles with very different price tags. The handling of the Thruxton is awesome. The T120 is more for relaxed chilled out riding. You can watch my T120 review and see if that helps.
      Do let me know if you have other questions.

      @@KrishnenduKes they fall far behind Eurpean standards. There are no interstate autobahns....maybe a good thing. They clear almost all the trees from near the road so there is no shade in a hot dry country. Where I live few roads are sealed, we have little gravel so in winter when it usually rains the clay roads are barely passable. None are surveyed. The main road is twisty with black spots where people die . The surface is patched and heavily rutted from road trains. The State went bankrupt in a year after a long mining boom....Western Australia.......as all the taxes are mainly from wage earners, This is a result of corporatisation.....low investment in infrastructure and welfare. Wages are stagnant so consumption is down, we have severe drought and the politicians have not managed our only irrigation region so there are some food shortages. The country is being allowed to run down, its not an inclusive democracy of happy workers. Still i have time to buy bikes and ride. I have a zx14r and a 1500 cruiser. Big bikes here as we have lots of empty spaces away from the cities. They have to have dood suspension to cope with the crap roads. which has brought me back to the start. Like kharma.

      A new bike will never be too expensive for maintenance. Triumph gives good value. However you need to check in your country, in forums if the Triumph after sales service is good. In India it is superb, one of the best.
      What bike have you ridden before? Because you see, this bike is a torque monster. Little touch of the throttle and the bike just shoots forward. One has to be a little careful if you haven't handled such torque before. I'm talking about the Thruxton R.

      Yes KesDa, I think these 4 series of bikes should be compared: Bonnie T120/ Scrambler 1100/Z900RS/R9T. While My heart goes with R9T the price and service support from BMW will never make it happen. The z900rs will be a delight I guess for the 'JAPS' factor but again it's priced few lakhs higher. Then the Scrambler obviously comes with Ducati premium but no so much that one can't dream about it (Ducati service and parts can be a pain). And that makes Bonnie the most safe bet I guess. Moreover I think the retro feel is more represented by a twin than an I4. :)
