Definitely feel for Avalanche and Sundberg in this, imagine having to throw out an entire year of work, complete the game only for it to be stupidly put up against MGS5 and THEN be told by the director of the franchise that he thought the game wasn’t the best, despite most of said issues stemming from WB games’ incompetence.
I’d feel the need to defend it too after having to go through that crap.

    • @Thekitty0706fan

Not only that. Telling and pleading with your publisher that the release date is going to lead to poor performance and them refusing to change it, and then when you turn out to be right they give you shit for the poor performance of the game.
Had that been be i would not have been able to remain calm and would’ve likely slapped whoever said me and my studio was to blame for their incompetence.

Miller's problem isn't the games rushed Development it's that they didn't consult with him or even mention him in the credits.
Miller made Mad Max, it's his baby, of course he'd be upset someone else lifting his ideas and not crediting him.
Ultimately it's shitty for all parties, and all because of Warner Bros management.

It sucks that the online section of the game has ceased functioning, so if you want to 100% and platinum the game, it's now impossible. It came out in a time where online sections were big parts in games... And still happen every so often, which really bring down decent to great games like this.

Funnily enough, this’ll also inevitably happen to the game that overshadowed Mad Max. MGSV’s mid to late game economy effectively relies on the online raiding portion, so when that dies out the single player experience will be absolutely miserable if you’re trying to get the resources to develop everything- and the platinum will be impossible.

George's beef with the game is understandable; WB shared his preproduction plans with the game devs; scripts, character outlines and concept art for his Wasteland Trilogy that would become the Fury Road and Furiosa movies, without his permission. This is why certain characters like Chumbucket and Scrotus appear in both the videogame and the Furiosa movie.

Armie Hammer in an Interview with Kevin Smith for IMDB mentioned the reason for the project being dropped was due to Australia pulling the tax breaks for the film right before they were going to shoot the film. Regardless of George Miller's feelings and others that probably never played the game, this was actually really fun and good. It's actually really good, it definitely nails the feel and aesthetic of the post-apocalyptic Australian wasteland. Its sad to see that this game wasn't popular though i do understand, back when it released it didn't really do anything new. Playing it now though, it holds up really well. And given that i picked it up for 2 dollars, it more than pays for itself in fun and entertainment

Funny seeing this upload, cause I literally JUST picked up and started playing the game again for the first time in years yesterday. I’ve been having a blast with it. I forgot how fun it was tbh. The map is pretty decent size with lots of things to do like races, camps, convoys, item collection, etc. The customization is great, you can upgrade and change almost every part of Max’s gear and the Magnum Opus. Your progression feels nice and balanced, it’s a nice feeling when you upgrade your knuckle dusters and can actually notice the difference in the damage you’re doing. The combat is awesome, very reminiscent of Shadow of Mordor/Shadow of War and the Arkham games. I find myself actually wanting to get into combat in this game cause it’s just that much fun to me. It’s simple, but addictive once you get it down. And the graphics aren’t that bad, the game still looks good and holds up today despite being nearly a decade old. All in all I think this game is great, not the greatest game of all time or anything, but definitely a fun one to jump in and watch things blow up. The fire and explosion effects in this game look incredible. It’s a very underrated game imo, as I almost never hear anyone talk about it outside of UA-camrs making video essays about how good it is lol. I think it flew under a lot of people’s radar, mostly due to the fact that it’s a licensed video game based on a movie, which aren’t always that great, and due to the year it came out. 2015 was a big year for game releases: Metal Gear Solid V, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Batman Arkham Knight, Bloodborne, Black Ops 3, Dying Light, Halo 5, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Mortal Kombat X, Battlefield Hardline, Just Cause 3, Super Mario Maker, etc. Needless to say there were a lot of big titles that came out that year, so Mad Max sadly got overlooked. Which is a shame because, to everyone’s surprise it actually turned out to be pretty fun.

Troubled developments often result in messy games that feel incomplete, but I honestly think Mad Max is the best open world game period. I keep going back to it about once a year because it just compels me to do it all again. I love the stronghold system and how it makes me feel like I'm playing a part of helping the vestiges of humanity live another few days. I can see how the combat draws comparisons to the Arkham games but it's just so perfect for the setting that I don't care. It's also extremely brutal, fitting the desperate scramble for survival of the wasteland. I was a day 1 stan for this game and I don't think anything would make me feel soured to it. I hope Miller reconsiders his statement because I'm sure Kojima could make an amazing Mad Max game, but this was the Mad Max game I always wanted.

One of the postives I heard about this game was that it was very well optimised, so you could play it on basically any computer system. I guess that extra years delay gave them time to do that. It seems like it had a lot of the trends at time of release things people were sick of them but now feel nostalgic. Its sort of like going back and listening to albums released back when you were a teenager but never actually listened to as a teenager and they are just as good (or better) than anything you listened to as a teenager.

Great work, as always! Another piece of interesting history surrounding this game was its initial E3 2013 reveal, which sparked up controversy due to Max's American accent, the protest surrounding the choice, led to the hiring of Australian actor Bren Foster.
I do think this is one of the positives of delaying the game into 2015, giving the team more time to bring in a new actor to redo the dialogue. Despite that, iirc, there's still scenes in the game where you could hear that American accent slip in, which is likely a remnant of the og voice talent. Interesting little fact.
