I'm from ICSE and our explanation goes like this-
the action potential reaches the axon terminal and triggers the local channels to permit calcium ions passage through the membrane these calcium ions helps the vesicles to bind to the presynaptic membrane of the neuron and release the neurotransmitter of the membrane, these neurotransmitters bind with the special protein receptors present on the postsynaptic neuron, opens the sodium and potassium ion channels which permits the passage of respective ions and changes the action potential of the next neuron generating the similar impulse.
any thoughts on this? Just the same explanation but with heavier taxonomy.
