Being Williams fan is... Let's say, unique experience. They have been going up and down since 2004. It's like for every good season, they also have an abysmal one. Just when you start to get your hopes up again, you get slammed into a head with comically large hammer and fall down. But I'm still gonna keep hoping (coping) and wait for better days.

Someone should call for Bruno Famin's head. They have fallen a lot under him. Also, I just want to mention that by hiring Jacques Villeneuve and firing Damon Hill, they ILLEGALLY BROKE NEWEY'S contract that stated he had to be consulted in driver changes. TWICE. The only reason it didn't go to court was because McLaren brokered a deal with Williams that allowed Newey to work for McLaren during his contracted years with Williams in exchange for no lawsuit

There is going to be some rough months while everything gets ripped apart, water damage and carpenter ants make the project bigger and everything from electric to plumbing and framing has to be fixed. If the marriage survives you have a grizzled hard working team with a sweet house.
Honestly, I think what Williams should be doing is finding a seasoned experienced driver to pair with Alex temporarily while they rebuild the team, they need a confident capable set of hands. They are alongside Alex to help they can’t be playing the rookie game and trying to rebuild the team it’s just not working, I would l say they need to be looking for a veteran someone with a lot of experience that can help the team get stabilized is what they need. Especially with new regulations coming. They should be looking for a safe, secure, steady set of hands to help them. I would think the best options would be Botas or Hockenberg to help rebuild that team because all they need is at least one driver that is not crash. Happy they can help them in a world. I’d like to see Sebastian Vettel do it, but I think he would only come back to one of the top teams. I would say either Botas or Nico would be a rebuild with a safe set of hands. Last year Alex had to carry the team by himself and this year the Williams car is not looking as good as it did last year and Alex has become a little crash happy so instead of capable hands alongside Alex would probably make a big difference for that team

The problem with Sergeant is that he is not the best race driver who is American. That is why many Americans do not take him or F1 seriously and if that is the case the rest of the world will not take him seriously either. He is just the best American that was in the F1 ladder system. Most of the better drivers who are Americans never even go into open cockpit cars and the ones that do look at a backlog and say forget it and go into the Indy system and never go to F1.
I think because of the many great young drivers we have on the grid they all adore the idea of building their own team around them and taking them to the top
I bumped into James in John Lewis the other day. Williams is very much like John Lewis, a British legacy that is very much in need of some change and modernisation, without losing what makes it a legacy. A tough job. But James will do it.
I'd be reluctant to push Antonelli into a Williams right now while they have a weak car that's punishing for a rookie to drive. Maybe if their form and organisation improve, I'd look at a seat for next year.

Being an American (I know I know ewwww he’s obviously only a fan because of DTS insert more cliches here) fan who’s followed the sport since 1999, all I want is to see Williams and McLaren back at the front (yes papaya bias but come on it’s 2 legendary privateers). While I’m a huge advocate of manufacturer teams because who doesn’t want to see Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini etc on the grid, there’s forever a spot in my heart for family teams. All this to say in US sports, it’s quite common for a franchise that’s slumping to give their new GM (or in this case team principal) 3-5 years to begin to see true change. So why does it seem F1 always expects teams to be turned around in 2 seasons or less? If I’m dorlington capital, I’m feeling really good right now. The team is in the black, we have a ton of social media/popularity boosts for a team that only a few years back was essentially an afterthought in the F1 world, have a budding star in Alex Albon, seems like all they need is a Sainz/Hulkenberg/Perez in that second seat and then look to move back to a top 5 team by 2026/27. Why so much hate for Williams as of late? Sure they’re low on parts but is that really a surprise given the massive operational overhaul that’s occurring?
I feel bad for Vowels because he said, on the High Performance Podcast I believe, that the team is going to be totally reconstructed from the ground up. That they will likely not be at all competitive during 2024, 2025, and only in 2026 will it start to become clear the improvements they’ve made. But still people are asking him why Williams is not doing well as if he never said all this. As if Vowels has been in charge for the last 10 years. The guy walked into the team a year ago, so basically I’d say that 75% of the team we are seeing is due to what already happened before he got there. He can make minor changes, but in just 1 year there’s not all that much that can be done to turn that ship around. It’d be like if a President got elected and the economy was in a severe depression, and then 1 year later people were saying “why are things still so bad?!? You’ve had a full year!”. It’s going to take many years for Williams to show signs of true, long lasting improvement. Can we be honest and just say that this season has been a disaster for FOM. After the rejection of Andretti for their absurd list of reasons. The last thing FOM needed was Alpine, Williams, and Sauber just straight up failing to even be competent as teams. Sauber not being able to design a wheel nut hi a hilariously stupid mistake to make. After claiming Andretti wouldn't be competitive.
For sure, the problems with Williams go all the way back to their glory days. Frank and Patrick ran the team in their very particular way, didn't handle supplier relations well and constantly made scapegoats out of aerodynamicists and drivers. They alienated Adrian Newey, drove away BMW and, IIRC, between 2002, 2003 and 2004 had _three_ different chief designers come and go. They might have changed but Sam Michael's stewardship of the team proved to be a disaster and I think they only saw that as justification of doing things 'the old way', which accelerated the tail-spin. Cleaning out a quarter-century of rot is going to take some pain and time.
I don't under how Hass and Williams are accepted long term teams of F1 but Mario Freaking Andretti one of the biggest names ever in motor sports wont bring enought to F1.
I wonder if they even get to participate in the main race in China, at least with one car, or lose both in the sprint. Even before that? In the sprint quali? In the free practice? Something to add excitement to the event, anyway.
Either very rational or completely cope take: Williams is currently in the worst state it will be in. (Currently being this/next year or two) Thats because the nessecary fixes are being made, and issues are actually being addressed, unlike with some teams. The question is, will james be allowed to stay as TP with the short term loss, long term gain mindset, or will shareholders get anxious and give him the boot? I think williams is one bad decision from folding entirely and selling - but currently on track to potentially at least be a solid midfield team in ~5yrs if they stay the course and avoid unplanned catastrophy.

The issue is that he is getting destroyed by Albon in the same car. These back marker teams are mostly competing with their teammate to put on a show for other teams. Logan is doing terrible compared to Albon.
Hmm... As a big fan of Williams, it was somewhat inappropriate to place logan on the side. But they want to maximize considering their constraints. Because as far my opinion goes albon is the superior driver.
Nobody knows who will come out on top of the 2026 regs. The only thing certain is that number 1 drivers will be ahead of number 2s. Just stay at Williams, Alex, & hope
If Vowles gets the say on a driver to replace Sargent.. I think they need a driver like Hulkenberg. He is the driver I would want to rebuild a team. He can bring a result when the car is not quite there and teach what he learned. I believe K-Mag is a far better driver for partnering with Hulkenberg. Haas would have seen improvement with better leaders. I believe they actually have the drivers.

Remember when Williams missed the first days of F1 tasting in 2019 under Claire? James will right this ship but it's going to take time. It's not up to us fans but up to investors. If the investors are pissed then things will change drastically. That's not happening right now so the investors have faith in James. The last thing they will do is go into a "Ferrari Mode" of changing everything but the numbers on the car every other year. They'll be fine, James is no dummy. Just remember what happened to McLaren last year.
I know, you have a "thing" for James Vowles and I hate to burst your bubble... but last year's moderate success was by and large result of the great work done under Jost Capito (who refused to be saddled with the dud that is Logan Sargent and quit). So Dorilton Racing turned to Toto Wolff and hired an obedient but uninspired "yes-man" for the job. (And don't say it isn't so, you were quick to blame last year's disastrous Ferrari Season on Mattia Binotto.)

Williams however is unfortunately in a wanker vault and is not about to come out anytime soon. James Vowles is not doing the job after 1.5 yrs at the helm. He talks pretty, but there are no real consequences coming out of his beta male virtue signalling. Just compare him with Komatsu at Haas, who had far less time and effected far more positive change at his team. Both drivers are crashing at Williams because the car is a dog, while each one of them has a point to prove and 2025 contract to clinch. So they will get to 10/10ths way too often just to be in 15th place. I reckon that Vowles is engineering wise out of his dimension and hasn't got a clue. At Benz he was a talent scout, I am afraid that is not enough of a credential to run a highly technical F1 team.
I like Williams and i like Vowles. But i am starting to think that last year was a fluke. 1st the decision to renew Logan contract was 100 bad. Everyone knew it other than Logan fans. Then having 2 crash prone drivers they decide to not have a 3rd chassis. Also Vowles coments are just weird.
Well, yes. Williams performed well on power circuits and Albon was able to make use of it to defend like a mother. Now the car is more conventional, they don't have their traditional salvo BUT if they can get the car dialled in, they can at least not be last.

The team is in the black, we have a ton of social media/popularity boosts for a team that only a few years back was essentially an afterthought in the F1 world, have a budding star in Alex Albon, seems like all they need is a Sainz/Hulkenberg/Perez in that second seat and then look to move back to a top 5 team by 2026/27. Why so much hate for Williams as of late? Sure they’re low on parts but is that really a surprise given the massive operational overhaul that’s occurring?

I feel bad for Vowels because he said, on the High Performance Podcast I believe, that the team is going to be totally reconstructed from the ground up. That they will likely not be at all competitive during 2024, 2025, and only in 2026 will it start to become clear the improvements they’ve made. But still people are asking him why Williams is not doing well as if he never said all this. As if Vowels has been in charge for the last 10 years. The guy walked into the team a year ago, so basically I’d say that 75% of the team we are seeing is due to what already happened before he got there. He can make minor changes, but in just 1 year there’s not all that much that can be done to turn that ship around. It’d be like if a President got elected and the economy was in a severe depression, and then 1 year later people were saying “why are things still so bad?!? You’ve had a full year!”. It’s going to take many years for Williams to show signs of true, long lasting improvement. I just hope that the team and the fans can be patient with Vowels and that he gets a chance to still be there once all this hard work pays off

Can we be honest and just say that this season has been a disaster for FOM. After the rejection of Andretti for their absurd list of reasons. The last thing FOM needed was Alpine, Williams, and Sauber just straight up failing to even be competent as teams.
Sauber not being able to design a wheel nut hi a hilariously stupid mistake to make. After claiming Andretti wouldn't be competitive.

For sure, the problems with Williams go all the way back to their glory days. Frank and Patrick ran the team in their very particular way, didn't handle supplier relations well and constantly made scapegoats out of aerodynamicists and drivers. They alienated Adrian Newey, drove away BMW and, IIRC, between 2002, 2003 and 2004 had _three_ different chief designers come and go. They might have changed but Sam Michael's stewardship of the team proved to be a disaster and I think they only saw that as justification of doing things 'the old way', which accelerated the tail-spin. Cleaning out a quarter-century of rot is going to take some pain and time.
I don't under how Hass and Williams are accepted long term teams of F1 but Mario Freaking Andretti one of the biggest names ever in motor sports wont bring enought to F1.

Thats because the nessecary fixes are being made, and issues are actually being addressed, unlike with some teams.
The question is, will james be allowed to stay as TP with the short term loss, long term gain mindset, or will shareholders get anxious and give him the boot?
I think williams is one bad decision from folding entirely and selling - but currently on track to potentially at least be a solid midfield team in ~5yrs if they stay the course and avoid unplanned catastrophy.

The issue is that he is getting destroyed by Albon in the same car. These back marker teams are mostly competing with their teammate to put on a show for other teams.

Hmm... As a big fan of Williams, it was somewhat inappropriate to place logan on the side. But they want to maximize considering their constraints. Because as far my opinion goes albon is the superior driver.
Nobody knows who will come out on top of the 2026 regs. The only thing certain is that number 1 drivers will be ahead of number 2s. Just stay at Williams, Alex, & hope

If Vowles gets the say on a driver to replace Sargent.. I think they need a driver like Hulkenberg. He is the driver I would want to rebuild a team. He can bring a result when the car is not quite there and teach what he learned. I believe K-Mag is a far better driver for partnering with Hulkenberg. Haas would have seen improvement with better leaders. I believe they actually have the drivers.

Remember when Williams missed the first days of F1 tasting in 2019 under Claire? James will right this ship but it's going to take time. It's not up to us fans but up to investors. If the investors are pissed then things will change drastically. That's not happening right now so the investors have faith in James. The last thing they will do is go into a "Ferrari Mode" of changing everything but the numbers on the car every other year. They'll be fine, James is no dummy. Just remember what happened to McLaren last year.

I know, you have a "thing" for James Vowles and I hate to burst your bubble... but last year's moderate success was by and large result of the great work done under Jost Capito (who refused to be saddled with the dud that is Logan Sargent and quit). So Dorilton Racing turned to Toto Wolff and hired an obedient but uninspired "yes-man" for the job.
(And don't say it isn't so, you were quick to blame last year's disastrous Ferrari Season on Mattia Binotto.)

He turned up at the Melbourne GP without an extra chassis forget what Sauber/Stake did the buck stops with him. Even a penny less Gunther Steiner when he was at HAAS would of had that covered. He gambled and lost, or worse he mis-managed.

Law, your historical perspective on the current event commentary is unparalleled except perhaps Peter Windsor's channel. Williams however is unfortunately in a wanker vault and is not about to come out anytime soon. James Vowles is not doing the job after 1.5 yrs at the helm. He talks pretty, but there are no real consequences coming out of his beta male virtue signalling. Just compare him with Komatsu at Haas, who had far less time and effected far more positive change at his team. Both drivers are crashing at Williams because the car is a dog, while each one of them has a point to prove and 2025 contract to clinch. So they will get to 10/10ths way too often just to be in 15th place. I reckon that Vowles is engineering wise out of his dimension and hasn't got a clue. At Benz he was a talent scout, I am afraid that is not enough of a credential to run a highly technical F1 team.

I like Williams and i like Vowles. But i am starting to think that last year was a fluke. 1st the decision to renew Logan contract was 100 bad. Everyone knew it other than Logan fans. Then having 2 crash prone drivers they decide to not have a 3rd chassis. Also Vowles coments are just weird.
Well, yes. Williams performed well on power circuits and Albon was able to make use of it to defend like a mother. Now the car is more conventional, they don't have their traditional salvo BUT if they can get the car dialled in, they can at least not be last.
