Rob, if I could make a quilt for anyone in the world, i could say the Queen of England, the President, or a host of other notorious people. But I would make it for my deceased Grandma. She passed away over 30 years ago and I miss her still more today. Grandma was the one who taught me to sew & quilt. She spent countless hours with me sewing and talking. Today I would give anything for her to see how I have continued to learn and grow in my sewing and quilting knowledge. She was taken way before her time, but I know she is healthy now. I would just like to wrap her in a quilt I made, full of love. So, it would have to be Grandma Addie.
+Daniel Glasco so sorry to hear about your Grandma, I'm glad that she has a very special place in your heart and that you still miss her to this day. I bet she's smiling down on you and your accomplishments as a quilter!!
Daniel, why not make that quilt for her anyway? You will think of her whenever you use it, and one day another member of your family will cherish it as well.
How did I miss this episode. This looks like a lot of fun.
This is just what I was looking for I didn’t know if it was possible bro make fabric leaves and use floral wire. Thank you excellent directions excellent
Hey Rob, instead of pushing fabric down into the center, you could purchase stamens in the floral area of your favorite craft shop and use those for the center. The stamens are already on wires and they would be held first and the petals would then be added around them. I think I would go for yellow stamens.
I've always wanted to know how to make flowers out of fabric, so thank You very much for this video!
As an avid gardener I am thrilled that I will be able to bring my garden blooms into the house and share all year long! Thanks Rob!!!
Hey, Rob. I sew, when I can, and my wife does wire crafts. I started buying her braided copper (home electrical) grounding cable, and I discovered that the copper is easier to sew with. also it doesn't rust with time. Keep up the good work, you got me working on free motion quilting.
Thanks for the great tip, Matthew!
I like copper wire too, but it is much more expensive than floral wire. Floral wire does rust, so don't use it in humid areas or outside. Oh and you don't have to wrap the bottom of the flower with fabric, you can just use floral tape. It sticks to itself and covers the petal and leaf stem wires.
Matthew Hadsall and Joannę i do see wire for flower what is cover with green plastic ......florist in plan use them ..roster will demagogues flowers and they use it not only for cut flowers.
Hi Rob,
I just made a whole bunch of very long skinny leaves for an art quilt. I used a couching foot and a very small zig zag stitch to sew over the wire. The couching foot will keep the wire in place. Then you can bend and even gather the leaf. This video came at a great time for my art quilt as I still need to make a flower! Thank you!
+Dana Crocco thanks for the awesome advice!!!
Dana Crocco what is couching foot???? do you have any video to show me this technique?
I started making 3D flowers ans leafs in the 90's, because of Elena Burns. I love doing them, so to see you video'ed this tec on your youtube, delights me greatly. So glad I seen this one. Thank you.
Thanks Rob great tutorial. I have made fabric lotus and in the center I used a 5" square hand sewn like a yoyo, filled with sand. Then hot glued it to the center of the flower to make a pin cushion.
Too cool! I've always been a fan of Monet's Water Lily series and this reminds me of his work.
+Darryl Strohl isn't that some fun stuff??
Love your tutorials because they are so easy to understand. You are so energetic and fun, too!
Hi Rob - I am brazilian and I live in São Paulo - and here in Brazil I can alwayas watch your videos and also watch the videos of Joan of Missouri Star Quilt - I love you so much - and this flower is worderful - one day I will have the pleasure of meeting you personally - kisses
Amazing tutorial and fabulous video thanks for sharing your beautiful ideas
Thanks for the awesome video! I love how you always seem to have something different to make. Helps me when i run out of ideas. These flowers could be used in so many ways. Your videos are so fun to watch.
Rob, This was great!!!! You did a wonderful job finish off the flower. You might try using longer wires even with the small petals. When I work in floral shops and we rewired flower arrangements ; we worked with longer wires and as the arrangement came together we would trim a few at a time as we added that way we we didn't end up with a short thick base of wires to cover.... also, gave more options of what we could do later with the arrangement. Rob, you are such a talented gentlemen. I have enjoyed all of your videos and have learn so much.....as I did this one. Thank you for taking your time and sharing your talent!!!!
I really enjoy your tutorials, you make them look so simple, thanks
+Jenny Kandy You are so kind! Thank you for following along!
so love these. too cute. that would be so cool for a quilters wedding if you did a big bouquet of them.
That's an awesome idea!
Thank you so much Rob. Your videos are my favorite! I am a happy subscriber! Best wished to you and your family!
I love this idea. I'm a super novice machine stitcher, so may sew these by hand! A great travel/holiday project too.
+Kezla can't wait to see what you create!
Love these flowers. And, since I do not have a green thumb, they would actually bloom and not die on me.
Wow thank you Rob for allowing me too use the Free Download (smiles)
Fantastic tutorial. You make everything look so easy --really enjoy your enthusiastic presentation. I'm hoping that I will be able to make some of these for a bouquet for my Mom who is 89.
+Barbara D What a fun idea!! She will love this!!
Beautiful flowers indeed! Thanks for the great tutorial!😊
Ideas for my daughters wedding shower! Beautiful!
+Jena Pope I was thinking along those same lines! Great idea!
+Jena Pope these would be so perfect! And are much cheaper than real flowers, considering they last a lifetime too!
idea using previous assembly the end of the flower where the end of the wire comes out tack the leaf/petal end (also when inserting wire bend the ends so you have no sharp ends ) then assemble the flower as you suggest only tack each petal down at the wire bend and then you do not have that bulky stem or to reduce the bulk in the flower stem cut some of the peta /leaf wires very short or follow elanor burns idea for the flower in her qult of a waterlily
Ok, I have worked on an off as a florist for 40 years. The way you sew them is wonderful I'd have probably used a zipper foot to top stitch. But your stem has way too much bulk, and will hang very heavy. You need to twist the wire tightly, making sure that all 3 wires have twisted and not just 2 moving around 1 wire. When the wires are secure, cut 2 of them off just past the twist. Instant lack of bulk and weight. Also cut wire with a pair of wire cutting pliers, don't ruin your needle nose pliers. When you saw the quilt were the flowers stitched to it, so it laid flat against it? If so, they cut the wires short after twisting began hand stitching at the base of each piece with the leaves in a circular pattern and then added the dark purple, light purple and then the pink, stitching each layer flat at the base and only through the quilt top and part of the batting, and then arranged the petals and leaves. But your flower is very cool.
+Jennie Wallick thanks for the awesome advice!! Glad to get some from a florist! :)
+Man Sewing the other thought that I had was to eliminate the wire to eliminate the wait, and instead use a heavy duty fabric stiffener. Cut, sew, flip, stiffener, lay them out on foil molds to dry and stitch each to the finished quilt by hand through the top and batting. While you were at the show did you get a chance to touch or take a photo of it? Now I want to figure it out too.
I like your tutorial, very much. Thank you.
Just so so Amazing and you make it look so easy Rob thank you (smile)
Thanks Rob, another cute project for our winter
+Tineke Williams Yes!!!
Love this tute!! I think I will put some small beads on wire to use in the center. Won't be hard at all to do. Thanks for your great ideas and for sharing them! Beth in Iowa.

+susan usserman thanks a million for watching!
Beautiful flower. I am going to try one. Thank you so much for sharing the tutorial.
+Maureen Zigulis thank you for watching!!
Great idea for the spring that may never arrive here in the east! Rob, I noticed that you template slipped a little. Don't you skateboard? That tape that is used on the skateboards that stop you from slipping works great on templates. Also, I was wondering if you could use the cording foot for sewing around the wires...just put the area that holds the wire in the slot on the foot for the cord and it should keep your needle away from the wire......just a thought. Love your videos!
+Barbara Hartford the zipper foot also would work great for the stitching around the wire
+Kate Beebe Yes, Kate, very true!
Great tut! I enjoy making elements of nature fora riots uses. Very cool!
Amazing possibilities with this one Rob. Thank you
I have floral wire left from making a wedding crochet flower bouquet for my winter wedding. I thought I never would need these wires anymore. But I was wrong - I really want to make this flower. I have enough wire and even flower stems.
Proudly showed the Hubs my first 3D fabric flower ever.... his reaction? "Feed me, Seymour"!!! If you've ever watched "The Little Shop of Horrors" movie w/ Rick Moranis & Steve Martin... well, I guess there is a pretty good resemblance. Back to the sewing machine...lol!
Wow, what a neat project!
+winterzee They are so fun to make!
I get back today to this video ..I love lilies ...do you can make video about that ?
The great idea of this flowers is if you have so reach texture like yours you can put drops of essence al oils inside flower and place it in windows all house will small great without burning

Love it. My new favorite tutorial.
+Beautiful Quilts woohoo!!! That's what we like to hear!
Rob how about putting a pin cushion in the middle and one on cut the wires smaller then attach it to a small jar for other pins
gracias rob ademas por dejar e n lacaja los moldes
Using a zipper foot when sewing in the wires would make your life easier.
Looks great, but why not make the channels at the edge of the leaves then insert the wires? It would seem to be better than perhaps breaking a needle or getting a wire caught in the machine.
Because you could not get a 18 inch piece of wire into it if you made the channel first
I so love these and want to give them ago. Can we please have a follow up video on how to attached them to a quilt, please pretty pretty please :P
+Lesley Nitschke we'll see what we can come up with! :)
Great tutorial. Thank you Rob. :)
+Cathy Shirey thanks for following along, we're glad you liked this one!
I know everyone probly has one but I have a rotary cutting board like yours . Use it an awful lot.
idea do top stitxching first. insert wire between top stitching and seam by turning wire upside down and then close ?
another great project!
Great tutorial - very unique. Will you be at AQS in Paducah next week?
The 3D flowers are so beautiful. I'm dying to see them incorporated into a quilt, but how could I do that with the stem in the way? Thanks for another awesome video!
Hmm... That would be difficult with the stem. Maybe if you used wire cutters you could trim the stem way down and then hand applique the outer petals to a quilt block. I would not use a machine because of the likeliness of breaking a needle on the wire. Best of luck, I hope this helps!
very cool thank u!
Thanks Rob , loved, greet,.....
Why not use a zipper foot for sewing the wire in?
Awesome! So how do you attach the flowers to a quilt? Once you do, is it washable?
+Donna Eustice we need to experiment with that more before we give any further advice or opinions!
Is there any way to download this printed on paper, I always like to have instructions next to me while sewing, for instance, how many small and large leaves do I need for this pattern, thanks
Do you have a feather weight?
hi I watch all your video and one thing intrigue me since... what is the brown thing on the left of the book celebration life?
+Julien Girard great question! That is a Weeping Yogi Carving. www.google.com/search?q=weeping+yogi&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMIyvPGysWwxwIVgh0eCh3zmAFC&biw=1046&bih=592#imgrc=aPa532yP3tJidM%3A
may sound dumb..but how do you attach these to a quilt"?
You could hand sew them onto a quilt, Sandra.
I'd be scared of the flowers being ripped off...wonder if attaching a button to the back for security...I will try this! Love your tutorials!
I like that. buttons would be great for the centers
