Hi Threse - just found this and you are right - your Dad is fabulous! I played drums for Ray 5 years later and heard from the guys about Ernie and how respected he was. You have much to be proud of! John Bryant.
The concert is incredible, thank you very much, from the fans around the world who can see this performance. The songs of the orchestra's introduction reminded me of the orchestras that I saw on my visit to Cuba in 1981, they had a similar atmosphere, the drummer's concentration on the first song demonstrates the professionalism of these great musicians. thanks very much.
You would enjoy Ray’s performance at the Jazz Jamboree 1984 in Poland, available on YT elsewhere. His rendition of ‘Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?’ is showstopping
Legendary. Nothing more to say except you seldom see Ray Charles- you bear witness. Incredible show. He was through inventing genres and writing songs that have long become standards by 1969, and instead focused on reinventing others' material as only Ray knew how to do. His voice only got better as time went on, and the late 60s and early 70s he was in as fine form vocally as he'd ever be. Thanks for reading and uploading.
Absolutely stunning readings of those two songs, @ezio droppo. The way Ray dictates those lentissimo tempos and builds the dynamics is a work of genius.

In 4.03 the song is I remember Clifford, the next one is The shadow of your smile (which I think he never recorded). The instrumental on 48.10 is This here. The one in miinute 53.07 is Finders keepers, loosers weepers. The next one is Baby please.I don't know the title of the first instrumental, but it is a beautiful one! It is a great concert. Thanks for uploading it!
Wow this performance is really fantastic! Where did you find this? I'd love to cut some clips of the individual songs from this. Some unbelievable good performing here! @jamesblackbird
@@jamesblackbird Oh wow thats fantastic! Where did you get the video from? Is this the video quality version of this available? Is there an HD version?
That's my Dad! The best percussionist that I know. #1 fan.
The legendary Mr. Ernie Elly! What an incredible video. Say hello to him for us!

Alto opener was revealing some Ray that ain’t no novelty,…man has chops galore. Merci beaucoup!
from the start... all those great horn players. look, we know Ray was special. the band around him was....incredible
Ray "the bridge" Charles
the only artist to date that bridged - blues, jazz ,big band, gospel, soul, pop
into one meal for the soul
Fine. So long as I don't have to start calling him "The Bridge." CHRIST that's awful!
......or is a Country a bridge too far?
Love the behind the scenes of Ray getting in the car and making his way to the stage. What a cool cat. The opulence is overwhelming.
That “I didn’t know what time it was” song slaps👏🏾🔥
I didn’t know what time is was.

We were enriched when we were graced with Ray Charles’ presence in this world. Since his departure, we have become poorer.
I wished i was there - it seems to be one of Ray's best performances as a soloist as well as interacting with the most inspired big band!

Came here for Ray Charles but found great Johnny Coles playing "I Remember Clifford". Many thanks for sharing!
Thanks for posting. The entire set is amazing. Ray is great and the band is top notch. Classic performance
I was lucky to attend a ray charles concert in Stuttgart Germany (while in the military) in the fall of 1969 this was probably the same tour
Yes, same orchestra!
We got to see him in the early 2000’s. One of the finest moments of our lives
3 min in and I'm just amazed.
This is ridiculously good and Ray Charles hasn't even appeared yet 🙃
Sorry I don't understand what you mean? There was always an instrumental part before Ray Charles came on stage! 😎
