Great Video mate. Those EE507 traction motors sound fantastic, and the Westinghouse model DH-25 air compressor sounds wonderful. The new AC motors and propulsion equipment these cars will get will defiantly kill the characteristics of this class. This is really classic stuff.
The Westinghouse DH25 air compressor was in production for many years and the importance of an air compressor is to make sure the train brakes efficiently.
My god!! This is music! I FUCKING LOVE IT! If u watch the old Toshiba EMU from Mitre Line of Buenos Aires, u can hear exacly the same engine sound. Regards from Argentina.
If you liked the sound of EE507 traction motors notching up, you may not remember the wonderful sound produced by the old MV339 motors (which powered virtually the whole of the erstwhile Southern Railway suburban system at one time). Equally so were the MV163 motors used on the main line Electrics to the South Coast in the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. Manufactured under licence I believe, by both Metropolitan Vickers and English Electric to an original design by the British Thomson-Houston Company and probably due in part to the slightly higher gear ratio of these machines (roughly 3:1), they made the most spine tingling noises during the notching sequence but of course that was in the days when we made proper trains that sounded like proper trains and not 'plastic' ones!
It sounds like Southern's 313, Scotrail's 314, London Overground's 315, Greater Anglia's 317, Scotrail's 318, Thameslink's 319, Greater Anglia's 321, and whatever the DART train is
The EE507 motors always sound great on the 455's I hope that the news on those dull sounding Vossloh whatsit motors were just a big joke cause if they're not then I'll stop my enthusiasm with trains and I'll forget all about it
I have now seen a few trains with the new Vossloh motors. The Vossloh motors sound very similar to the English Electric motors, only a bit louder & with a high pitched overtone. It is a bit weird, as they are AC, but sound like they are DC. What's even wierder is that some trains on the Strawberry Hill line have in the end carriages EE507 motors & in one of the two middle carriages Vossloh motors (the other middle carriage is a trailer). All of the trains I have found so far with any Vossloh have both the old ticky compressor & the new hissy compressor. The trains that have had all their motors replaced with Vossloh have two compressors: an old ticky one in a trailer carriage & a new hissy one in a power carriage.
That's just the VF drive. Without it the Vossloh Kiepe traction would sound exactly the same as the EE507 motors (except when they have that Regen braking tho)
Sounds amazing.
You can't beat the sound of DC EE motors and a thumping good westinghouse DH25 compressor, delightful!!!
Billy Fish, the Westinghouse DH25 air compressor does sound familiar.
Those compressors are a work of art, gotta love their thumping!
I'm used to that sound.
Absolutely ace. I had no idea that these units retained such characterful equipment; though I note the 'character removal program'.

@Níðhöggr A275/A276 noooo he meant class 313 in the uk not that m train thing
My opinion this train sounds like hong kong East rail line mlr train which is the train that is no longer service
the moter has been changed now i liked the old one
Well your in luck, go on a southern service 455 and you will get the same motor as the old one
They are common if you get a train somewhere around Surbiton to waterloo
BlueGuest222 u mean there still around?
Yeah, trains around and in Kingston mostly have them.
To be honest, the new motors sound very very similar if not just as good.
These and the 442s have the best traction motor startups ever
Sounds lika an air raid siren when starting up
thats my favorite traction moter
I recognise the sound of the air compressor.

1:16 Automatic Doors!
1:16 Anyone notice the 455 doors opened by itself with Beno touching the buttons

@@reimztrains2024 Yep
Door alarm sounds good like class 319
the compressor sound on that train sounds like nir's 35 year old slam door 80 class demu and a 80 class slam door is getting preserved

315s and 313s have higher pitched sound but I feel you. Its more similar to the 317. Funnily enough the 455 and 317 have almost identical body shells
@@bb-3653 It's probably because this train is using an AC motor like the class 317, but the 313 and 315 use DC motors.
@@hesterclapp9717 nah this is the old version that your hearing so Its dc like southern 455s, but the present day south western 455 uses ac I think

Vossloh isnt dull the whine sounds really good with the hum
The Westinghouse DH25 air compressor should be saved as a museum exhibit.
