It has become my ultimate genre. It is one of the reasons why I loved metalcore in the early 2000's. At 40 years old now, I just cannot get into the constant "harshness" of music anymore - it's not my age, but more of me becoming jaded with the overall metal scene. The stuff coming out from the like of who you mentioned, revived my love for the harder stuff again. Gives you the perfect mix where neither is overwhelming.
@@DLeRoux Same for me, I've been mostly listening to things like Epica that had a nice balance of heavy and not, and when I first heard about Spiritbox and their early songs I was thinking "nah no way", but they're one of my top bands now, loved everything off of Eternal Blue and I can't wait to see where they go
It really means a lot to see someone of your caliber (and age) taking this kind of music seriously and really giving it an honest listen. You are one cool dude, Mr. Geebz.
Mike is an absolute wizard at creating amazing backing ambient synthy guitar parts that pulls all the crazy pieces of the songs together and creates cohesiveness.
I've always felt that the juxtaposition of the ambience and heavy riffage was why I love this stuff, not that the ambience was necessarily a numbing agent for me but that each made me appreciate the other more. Somehow the softer parts make the heavy feel heavier, and the heavy makes the softer parts more emotional in turn.
Geebz, just in my personal opinion, having the artist's links in the description of the videos was a really good habit, that I think would be nice of you to take up again. It's also a good look.
Maybe this will help you decipher djent. Djent is a focus on patterns purely without changing notes (per say). Breakdowns tend to go 'full djent" and just be 0's and 1's on the guitar. As a result you can't have Djent integrated into many genres.
This song really hits in all the right places. They nailed this track, even the music video (which I usually don’t care much for). Stellar modern metal track.
Watching your reaction is my first listen to this song and let me tell you, my goosebumps have goosebumps. I'm not even half way through the video and I already love it.
you nailed it on that hook. that vocal melody in the chorus and that main heavy riff are the two things that make this song amazing. the rest is good, no doubt, but those two elements are like 90% of the recipe.
Such an incredible band, privileged to have caught them live in Manchester recently. That riff is one of their best yet imo, and Courtney's voice is insane. So well rounded as a group considering they've had one album out (plus an EP), no one's doing it like them at the minute
Here to end! Spiritbox is my favorite for knowing when to unleash Courtney, and being intergral to the song. So many other growl vocalists/bands seem to smack you from out of nowhere and it doesn't feel like part of the song.
It was the first time I listened to this band since I tend to be more in the extreme metal spectrum, but I enjoyed the ride! This is a great discovery and thanks for sharing your analysis! :)
Heyo, Geebz! Lovely reaction, as always. Anyway, I was listening to some older music earlier and a track popped on that made me think you might enjoy analyzing it. "Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation" by Viraemia. Yes, they're one of those wacky noodley brutal death metal bands. But, hear me out! They were one of the pioneers of the genre back in 2009 and went above and beyond. They were well-composed and lickety-split on a 10-string bass with a drummer to match. They went silent for many years after releasing only five songs that remain iconic to the genre, but were resurrected with Mark Garrett on vocals, who you might recognize from Kardavox Academy metal vocal school on UA-cam. Anyway, hope you see this and give it a thought. Take care, bud!
Dude epic analysis, really appreciated your decomposition… subscribed! That fast sequence was actually lead guitar with a fast tape echo delay and reverb… I did a guitar cover of this song if you’re curious🤘🏼🖤🎸
huge fan as always Geebz. Dance Gavin Dance released a song called "The Ghost of Billy Royalton" today, and it's a tribute to their bass player that tragically passed away last year. would be really cool to see a reaction for it, as it has a ton of musically complex parts I'm sure you'd dig as well. cheers
Hey Geebz, have you seen the new Vildhjarta single? As a composer I think you'd get a huge kick out of it. Throwing in the suggestion in case others haven't. :p
Hey Geebz.. Not a bad song. I did want to mention that Erra has a New track that was released called Pale Iris.. Just an idea for an upcoming review if you feel up too it.. Thanks Geebz.
Please, please breakdown how the details on the edge of the sound-space happen on the new Earthside song. Especially the 2nd vocalist. He's a programmable pad in human form. Earthside - Let the Truth Speak ua-cam.com/video/IxrRwoRODmo/v-deo.html
This consistent wall of DDD sound is too thick for my taste. With the ambient soundtrack it sounds interesting. Problem is, even the melodic crescendos flatten out in the mix and sound thick. All the musicianship ebbs and flows but it sounds like one giant machine all the time regardless.
Never been a fan of Courtney since the day she mysteriously filled in for Krysta in iwabo. Never been a fan of spiritbox. This song removes as much as possible of the things I didn't like from both of them. Less fluff, less stalling, more riffs and a more cohesive structure. That being said, the song is still pretty basic. And maybe that's just saying more about the genre. That's not even hate, just an observation.
The ambient side of bands like Spiritbox, Erra and Invent Animate have absolutely nailed it for me. Just massive sounds.

"when the chug takes over"
Probably the most metal thing ever said. Geebz holds the wisdom!
Ola Englund :D
It's so crazy how this band keeps getting better, consistently putting out bangers. Love it, and i'm glad we all get to be here enjoying this.
I'm almost 60 & saw spiritbox last month!!! Love your reactions always!!
Elders digging my music brings a smile to my face.

I would love to hear them play live with an orchestra. I could just see it gelling together so well

Love this band. Every single they release gets better and better.
I've been living under a rock for a month I guess since I didn't know about this song and the new one that released today.
i think Courtney will be next metal goddess, her voice is really amazing
Isn't she already?

Start at their earlier work and move forward. They definitely experiment with their sound.

It’s so crazy comparing this to their work in IWABO.
Well they were still kids back then 😂
Geebz if you ever get to see them live do it. Saw them open for Ghost and my god I was blown away and became instant fan
Let's go geebz!!! Stoked on this.

Ayyyeeeee much love Geebz🧡🧡love when u come through my feed. So much fun
Spiritbox just casually drops the best metalcore track of the year. This song is so perfect man. That crushing opening riff and the chorus… sooo good.
Tell me you're new to this genre without telling me... lol
@@LeVraiBabaYaga If listening to metalcore for over a decade is “new” then yes, im new here.
@@8JFJK8 Spiritbox is boring. Same old shit we've always heard before but with a barbie front woman. Yayyyyy, sooo good and original!!!!

Just say I really love Spirtibox already lol Good breakdown enjoyed it!
Sounds like Mike is making all the ambient with guitars/effects.
Yeah, I wonder if a lot of metalcore and djent bands aren't doing some "keyboard" sounds with either midi pickups or synth pedals.
Kind of like what Matt Ballamy from Muse does.
All the best Metalcore bands are/have been doing it
Thank you Geebz 😊

Thanks Geebz, much love brother
Key of geebz is in on the up n up! I love it
Love this band & production, in a really strange way it's a full circle back to Hysteria by Def Leppard but 20,000 light years later 🌌🚀🌌
Love these guys. You really gotta listen to earthsides 2 most recent tracks man.. absolute prog masterpieces
Can definitely hear some influence form their new guitarist here in the riff

hey Geebz , Earthside has new music and videos out. once again they have called upon Daniel Tompkins to lay down some amazing vocals

Please listen to Katatonia's "Night is the New Day." That album is probably ten years old or more but is way more important than this wannabee band.
She needs to fire who ever let her get that hair cut.
You think she asks permission to cut her hair? She’s had bangs for a couple years now.
