    I’ve got the ECT3000 and a power probe IV
    All works really well
    having said that nine times out of 10 wiring problems can be diagnosed with the wiggle test because is usually a connector combined with a visual inspection and for those one times out of 10 it’s something weird in the circuit the circuit breaker finder is outstanding
    use it successfully once and it’s paid for itself on first use via time and hassle and headache and frustration savings.....

      It worth every ounce every penny . But if you don't have money DIYer then just an Harbor Freight Cable tracker about $25 would do sufficient jobs .

    I've not had good luck with tools like this. It would work OK if the wire was completely broken. But, what usually happens is the wire is corroded or partially broken and it cannot carry a load, but it can still carry the tiny amount of current used by the transmitter. That creates a false positive reading.

    • @JRC54
      @JRC54  5 років тому

      For those corroded wires I use the uscope or the power probe hook it has a load test function then you can just isolate the issue. With the uscope I do the wiggle test

    • @charliemagoo7943
      @charliemagoo7943 5 років тому

      If unsure put a resistive load at the end of the circuit. The corrosion will be where the receiver stops receiving.

      I'm sure you ment to put "the demo was the shit". Kinda hard to isolate a circuit when its in a huge wire loom. I checked the transponder it's sends a small voltage and picks it up on the receiver as a frequency is what I assume.

  • @rsanchez5676

    If you are told that you need a computer for your car because the sensors do not work anymore, think again. These sensors are mostly 2 and three-wire circuits. They are generating some kind of signals for the computer to read and make decisions with. With the proper knowledge of how sensors work and what they do you can save yourself considerable money. The "cheapo" 500 to 1000 dollar cars that have electrical problems are not that hard to fix. All the wiring gets brittle and can be the victims of rodents because they started to put soy-derived oils in the wiring insulation. If you got 5 volts from the computer that does not reach the sensor, you can save yourself the trouble of chasing wiring with a signal generator and receiver by just making a jump wire from the computer to the sensor.
    If your computer has not got 5 volts from the designated pin you can go get it from somewhere else. You can also get your grounds from the computer chassis. If you have an intermittent hot from the computer just get rid of it, it is dangerous.
    The signal wire can be replaced too. Just replace the wires and make sure to use power and grounds from the computer hot wires.
    If you take a two-stranded thin wire and run it from computer+5v and ground to the power and ground of the sensor and you can measure the signal from the sensor wire back at the computer you just made a circuit to fix your problem.
    It is not that hard and we do not need to be afraid of it.

    • @2tallB
      @2tallB 4 роки тому

      I’m not a mechanic, and this makes sense but I’m curious, how do you that? You’ve got for example a connector with 32 pins, how do you access that 5v signal without unplugging? Back-probe it somehow? On my Jeep I have 5v at sensors, when unplugged the pin in PCM has 1v. So I’m just trying to understand what your process is. Maybe it’s simple when you have more experience

    • @andrewdomenitzdmd
      @andrewdomenitzdmd 4 роки тому

      @@2tallB You basically go to "UA-cam University" and also research the problem on search engines. If you don't get answers right off the bat, try changing the way you ask the question. It is not that hard and yes you back probe looking for the 5 volts you need. There is always someone else who had the problem out there.

      For intermittent faults especially you must physically move ,pull up / aside sub harnesses to look for chaffing rub through on the loom.
      It is very advantageous to narrow down & pinpoint the near or precise point of the break before disturbing the harness.
      Another example is If you have a double axle float, boat trailer or an RV you can easily find the break in the tail light circuit if replacing a bulb doesn't fix the light out problem.

    • @matth9359
      @matth9359 4 роки тому

      Not really. You'd have to keep poking into the wire to take measurements. You can start at connectors to narrow down a section but this would certainly save time. Especially the 3000 which shows you the direction to move in. And the wiggle test is great but can also make it tough to find sometimes.
