Hi Kenny, I have learned now how to make a dowl drilling jig, I always wondered how you might drill a hole down the center of a dowl, so now I know thanks Kenny.

Honestly, this is a truly monumental build, as is shown by the time it has taken you ... the sheer amount of work put into this project is apparent when you look at the model, so many pieces, all perfectly cut and fitted ... it is a truly exceptional piece already and it's going to be even better when you apply a finish to it, which is a major job in its own right 👏👍🤟

Thanks for the kind words on the series and on the project Barry. I am considering a show when this is all done, on the process of applying the finish to a model like this. Hopefully when that time comes, I will still have some ambition left. LOL. Thanks for tuning in

Another super show! I can't believe that this was Nbr 15. Incredible. A lot of great advice and technique in this one. . . .especially around the end drilling of the cylinders. I'm thinking that another approach to the drilling of the bottom and mid cylinders might be to use Pen jaws on a lathe chuck to drill the center hole and then turn the exterior size dowel needed. I make a lot of pens and use that technique to center drill the blanks for glueing the brass tubes into the blank body. Now I will admit that while it works great for pens, it may be too robust for the nesting cylinder parts.
This is a terrific series and while being a lot of work for you to produce, it is truly a treasure trove of encyclopedic information for those of us watching. Thank you so much for sharing.

Unrelated to THIS video, I have to thank you for suggesting to put first aid supplies in the workshop. I had a mishap with my miter saw yesterday and chewed up the pad of my left middle fingertip. Dumb mistake that took a fraction of a second. I didn’t wait for the blade to fully stop and reached in to get the pice of wood. Fortunately I had first aid supplies handy and was able to get gauze and tape around the wound immediately. My wife was out of town and I had to care for my son with special needs so could only go to emergency the next day (today). Anyway, thanks again for that piece of advice. I put a fire blanket in the shop too!

I'm sorry to hear about your accident Stephen and I hope that you were able to get the medical attention that you need to heal properly. I hope you have a speedy recovery. I'm glad that my suggestion was taken to heart and that you took the time to add first aid materials to your shop. This is EXACTLY why I suggest things like that on the show. So that others can benefit from having the supplies there. Hopefully you never need them but in the unfortunate case of an accident, it is much better to be looking AT the first aid supplies, than to be looking FOR the first aid supplies. Heal quickly sir. Thanks for tuning in and thanks for chiming in with your story.

Hi Ken, another great show! The collet center you mention at 12:53ish, could you supply a link for that please? I’m struggling to find one? My a different nomenclature? Cheers Gary

Here is a link to the collet set Gary. While the set is expensive, you can also by them in individual sizes. They all fit into a 1/2" chuck collet and although they claim to be able to be used with a drill chuck, I find the drill chuck mars the finish really badly on the collets. www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/tools/power-tool-accessories/chucks/71613-beall-i-x-internal-expanding-collet-set?item=44J0780
I hope this helps. Thanks for tuning in to the show.
