Just got an NES Classic Edition today. Absolutely amazing, to say the least. All of these retro, legendary games fit into a novel-sized console for our enjoyment! Now we're playing with power.
I like how ay 0:39 , it has an effect on the logo like it was on a TV from the 80's, but then transitions into the modern era

To those wondering why this makes sense when the Wii U/3DS virtual console exists: consider the oceans upon oceans of people who have fond memories of the NES (or even people who never played NES games who might want to) who didn't buy a 3DS (plenty of people don't bother with handhelds) or Wii U (one of the worst selling Nintendo consoles ever). This is for those people.
And don't get me wrong. I love Wii U. But the fact is, it just didn't sell well. So if they want to get retro titles out to the masses, this is one way to do it.
Also, this is cheaper than Virtual Console (well, unless you've already bought several of the games).
EDIT: And it's much more portable, and comes with an accurate controller.

I thought this was for the younger generations to show what made people fall in love with nintendo
I've personally have not bought a Nintendo product since the Gamecube and Gameboy Advance. The Wii, Wii U, DS, and 3DS all seemed like expensive gimmicks aimed at children with the only things remotely interesting being Mario kart 8, and Pokemon.
However... a cheap $59.99 NES with 30 games included? Now this is something I would enjoy for an evening, and I know my parents would enjoy even more.
Man, I say you missed out on a lot of things, especially the DS and 3DS.

+Ashton Hall In fact, you would need a laptop or a very long HDMI cable, going to the web and probably download a couple troyans, mess a bit with the Emulator config for sound and video, config the controllers, the controllers themselves and still, you will not have the same result. And with this you will get the toy itself, which is cool. Oh, and you can carry it easier than a laptop, just plug and play, literally.

I don't think this will make a lot of money. It's actually not expensive. There is almost 0 soft. development, but some hardware development. Plus manufacture, packaging, publicity, worldwide shipping, a nes pad, hdmi output and retailer fee/commission. I don't think there's much left for nintendo. I thought of this more as advertisement. Shake up that nostalgia a couple of months before the release of the NX (which will probably use carts). I think this is a genius move from nintendo.

Kain I love them a lot, but really, most people probably do have a collection of them, if not emulation on Wii, Wii U or PC, and so releasing them once more feels a bit wasteful. Making them in HD only makes it worse, since it reminds us that the Wii U could easily do the task, too.

Now that new graphics and more content has been introduced, it's nearly impossible to look back and think about how great these games really are. About the same amount of effort went into Super Mario Bros as New Super Mario Bros U, if not possibly more. That's how I see it, at least.

The majority of LJN's game library are based on licensees, which is makes it expensive to renew after they are long expired. Besides, LJN itself had long closed anyway. Additionally, all the games featured are pure video games exclusively from Japan-based publishers.
LJN was eventually folded into a larger company known as Acclaim Entertainment. The final game published by LJN was made for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000.

It's fun to watch Modern generation kids play 80s and 90s video games. They give up so easily and are convinced that the graphics and controls are causing them to lose. LOL I passed on my knowledge of classic games to my kid and the others I helped raise as good as I can. Somewhat successful.
Love the throwback commercial. Seems like a missed opportunity to not be able to add games later down the line though.

heffayguap Yeah, they confirmed it has no internet connectivity or expandable storage or anything. You get 30 games and a controller. It's still neat but....missed oppurtunity for sure.

Would have added extra costs and removed the nice simple plug-and-play bundle design. It would have also upped the cost and made the system more prone to hacking.

well it looks like the size of a cartridge and then we'd have to keep track of multiply carts and it be more expensive i think cartridges rock but a plug and play console wouldn't need them
What about DS sized cartridges? I think they would work fine with the system. And doing that would allow for many more games to be played on the system. One game I really wanted to play on an NES was Mother (the game which precedes Earthbound). There's also Battletoads and Tetris, which I also wish they added.

Real talk, I'm surprised no Virtual Boy games got released on the 3DS eShop or something. Maybe the two types of 3D are incompatible, but I'd really like to try out that Wario Land game that was apparently actually pretty good.

Most emulators are not illegal.Its taking the games/roms that is illegal if you never owned the original media.

Illegal or not, you can't get in trouble for it, that's a certainty.
It's typically the responsibility of the owner of the source material and their lawyers to stop the distribution and their usually satisfied when the source is removed.
Just because you wont get in trouble doesnt mean it's ok.
