I'm Casey silver I've been told she is a cousin my daddy told me the story when I was little I wanna know for sure cause where from where all this happened
I actually read the book about Frankie years ago. I cried and was broken hearted over her burial. Her brother and father tried getting her home to bury her but they couldn't do it fast enough and her body started rotting so they had to stop and bury her in a nondescript location with no marker
I live in Burke county, born and raised. This has always been an interesting and sad story..... I've actually been to her grave, it's close to lake James right off hwy 226, just North of Morganton where she was unfortunately hung.
These stories are the result of no TV, movies or computer games. It's such a simple story, but one can see how embellished it could become passed down orally 6 generations and many versions . There are probably thousands of folk stories of a similar nature if one wants to investigate.
I'm a decendant of one of Frankie's brother's; Lieutenant Jackson Stewart . This story has been passed on our family side too. I have a hard time with his telling of it and saying that my 5th Great Grandfather aided her finishing Johnny Silver off. Fact is there is documentation that Frankie had been abused. There was a petition by members of the community stating the fact she was seen often with bruises and marks. The judge was not swayed by the petition and it was not presented at her trial. Furthermore her Father was never charged. Her other brother Blackstone was, but he ended up not being prosecuted further.
I am a descendant of Charles and Frankie Silver and would love to talk to someone about this story.
Me too, my 7th or 8th cousin.
I had the pleasure of seeing Bobby perform at the ASA Conference this year. He is truly a great storyteller and a musical treasure!

Read the book about Frankie Silvers (Silbers) by Perry Deane Young. Full of typos but the story is correct.
