This was great. I knew about this story because Sharyn McCrumb wrote an excellent novel called "The Ballad of Frankie Silver". I recommend it anyone who liked this video, it really humanizes the story. This reading is incredibly moving too. I won't give the book away but the author really did a lot of research and she is a distant relative of Frankie Silver and is from that area. The book is part of a series called the Ballad Mysteries which are all based on Traditional ballads. I am a Folksinger so I found them very interesting. They are very good mysteries that also incorporate a lot of local folklore and folk magic- one of the main characters who tries to solve the mystery from modern times ( the story kind of jumps back in forth in time) is a psychic with "the Sight". As a survivor of spousal abuse- my ex threatened to kill me too I really, really sympathize. Remember that these were just teenagers who would be in High School today. They didn't have the emotional maturity to deal with what was going on in their relationship, and they didn't certainly have any access to couples counseling! I had resources to help me get away, Frankie didn't. She couldn't pick up a cell phone and call the police. The song at the end is very good, the traditional ballad is very judgemental of Frankie and I don't care for it. I have been where Frankie was, I could have been her. It's chilling.
An intriguing and earthy story. You presented it well. I enjoy your singing and the song at the end. Very special episode. Haunting. Thanks for all you do.
Great Job. I always check the lineage to see how my family relates to all historical crimes I watch lol. It’s fun. My husbands 5th cousin 4xr was Charlie. Sounded like a lazy scoundrel.
This was an amazing but sad story. She was too young to marry and he had a bad temper. Not a good combination for a good marriage. Anyway, jmo. Thank you for sharing this story.
Yay! Starting the new year with a new video from your!! We love your stories. You do such an excellent job. My hubby is a Spencer and a distant relative of Lady Diana, but also a direct descendant of the infamous medieval Hugh DeSpencer, LOL!🤣 His family came here to America in 1635 and they know the boat name, etc. They were prominent during the Revolution in CT. and Mass. and founded a town here in New Hampshire.
I have to say Thank You So Much for telling the story of my 4x Great Aunt & Uncle, Charlie and Frankie Silver. Although it has been told many, many, many times. Some with facts and a whole lot of fiction just from being retold and retold and retold, as well as both families opinions. I must say however, out of the tons that I have read, this is the first that said anything at all about her abuse. I would love to know how you were able to acquire this document X'd by her as I have searched for years without being able to find it. Thanks again.
I’m so happy that you responded to my story. If you are asking about the full version of Frankie’s “confession,” it was a reprinted article from the Southern Citizen published In Ashboro NC on Feb 25, 1837. It is on Newspapers.com.
I loved this type of video ❤
I really appreciate all the details you give and you're a great storyteller!
Thank you!
Loving the song at the end. Poor Frankie! Today that would surely have been manslaughter.
Love your telling of this legend, such a sad story. ❤ "Take it to the grave", moving rendition of this song💔, one of my new favorites.
I've heard this story before but the detail in which you covered it is outstanding. And that song gave me chills. Thanks to all involved
Thank you!

Charley was a man who needed killin'. But if Frankie's pa wouldn't take responsibility for the murder, he's just as bad.
"Her name was Tommy!"
REALLY DUDE?! Went through all that trouble to save her and blew it?!
This sounds like an incredibly unhealthy relationship 😢
