    Dr Wilson passed due to a stroke so his son told me. Dr Wilson was my mentor. I met him at a lecture during Black history month in St Louis,MO. I was a grad student. I absolutely loved him. I thought he was one of the most brilliant people I'd ever met. I would call him to run things by him to get his thoughts. He always made time to talk. I still miss him.

      You are the first person to explain why he passed. I've been trying to find out for years. Didn't hear about him until 2013. When he passed in 1995, I was 14 so I wouldn't have known him and if I did at that age, I'll admit, I would have either out-right rejected his info or wouldn't be able to understand it because and I'll admit, as a black man, as a youth I had a "white boy" mentality based off the society we live in. Of course that's gone now but I've found his books at a store in Bmore. I haven't dug into them yet but I will soon. His lectures and interviews really helped me as an adult. I wish I could have known him as you did. Peace.

      I’m also a Bass who grew up in Hattiesburg MS. I’ve been in Minneapolis for 20 years now.
      Dr Wilson mentions his sister, Ms Marjorie Chambers, in a couple of his lectures.
      Ms Chambers taught at my high school (Hattiesburg High).
      I was a high performing black male student and no matter how I tried they would NOT put me in Ms Chambers class! lol

    I met all of these African leaders and more of them in 1987 at the Black psychologist conference on Auraria campus in Denver Colorado. The date is approximate but I was taken to another world loving and encouraging. It made me wish this could never end. They specified that after the conference everyone had to go do the work. They explained how hard the call on our lives is going to get. All the people Prof Smalls knew and studied with must be lifted up as our leaders in remembrance and given honor. They will forever go unknown with their contributions. These men and women worked hard and sacrificed their lives to redeem Africans. We have to make our own celebrations for their work.

      @@LibertarianGal❤ I’m only now discovering the teachings of these men and it’s very disappointing to see how the great leaders and thinkers are not given the respect and care they deserve in life and beyond. I mean I see people waxing lyrical about how much they learned, how great he was yet there is pure confusion about how he died, where he is buried and even whether he had children or not. That lets me know it is lip service being paid and it is shameful. The resources are there to look after these warriors properly, to honour their legacy in the right way, to gather their work and estate and have it maintained for future generations. If we cannot get the basics right this is just entertainment at this point.

    • @LibertarianGal
      @LibertarianGal 3 місяці тому +1

      @@gardeniainbloom812 I agree 100%. The sad part about this is that Dr. Wilson sat in an unmarked grave for over 20 years. Someone created a fundraiser to get him a head stone. I'm shocked that no one knew that he had a son. I wonder how many of these people went to his funeral. Because the obituary clearly states that he died of stroke complications and that he had a son named Raheem. I want to make a yearly tradition of visiting and putting something on his gave when I find it.
