Thanks Greg......LOVE THIS EPISODE!!! Listened to this at my Granparents farm. No electricty on the farm. Had 'tractor battery' powered radios. We listened to the radio after chores, supper and dishes done....Kerosene Lamps lit, popcorn popped and us kids stretched out in front of wood stove. Us kids did not know it was not real and adults played along like it was real!!!!! 😮😅
As weird as it may sound, if this huge collection of "olden times" radio sci-fi is as good as it looks, then it's practically an answer to a prayer. No joke. Impossibly, it's what I really needed this day.
@@aneveningofoldtimeradio Damn straight, bro! I could not have said it better. I already decided to send you a follow-up comment if this video turned out to be so great, which so far seems very likely. Thanks for taking the time to reply!
That show was the #1rated radio broadcast of its day . The Charlie McCarthy and Edgar Bergen show. It ended some 15 mins or so into this broadcast, right in the middle of the martian invasion being described. You may notice that the first station break doesn't take place until some 30 something minutes into the broadcast. Hence the ensuing confusion and panic. This lead the FCC mandating that all broadcasts contain a minimum 30 second station break for station identification every 15 minutes. Today you see the remnants of the mandatory station ID's in the form of the subdued channel ID's somewhere on the screen on your TV, also the commercial breaks are longer. Radio still must have station breaks every 15 minutes. All this is a direct result of this very broadcast on October 30th 1939.
My father told me of the mass hysteria brought about by this broadcast. He lived in a rural area and said people were roaming the countryside armed with hunting rifles, looking to defend America from the Martian invaders.

Thanks a million! This is a great compilation.
Glad you enjoyed it thanks for watching! 👍
The reason War of the Worlds scared so many people was a popular show on a different station ended late so they tuned in late and missed the intro.
